Trying to install HP Color LaserJet CP3505 on a clustered print server - Windows 2003 SP1 (using both the print server wizard and/or printui.dll). I am getting the error "Unable to install HP Color LaserJet CP3505, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003, x86 driver. Access is denied. I am a domain admin, have GPO rights to load device drivers. I have checked the permissions on the registry key HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\print\environments (I have rights). I have run regmon and filemon and nothing is jumping out at me (no access denied). I have two servers in the cluster and it is happening to both of them. Event log shows no…

Good Day folks, Im hoping someone can help me. First let me start by saying that i am not a server admin. I am helping a friend set up a 2k3 SBS standard server. The problem we are having is sharing the dial up internet from the server to the clients of the domain. All of the clients are running dhcp that is assigned by the 2K3 server. Can anyone please help me get the internet available to the clients through the network. I bet many people are wondering why we are using dial up internet, and unfortunately high speed is not available in the area. Thanks in advance for you help. Chris.

Hi, Have two windows 2003 Domain Controllers. The original DCs is flaky and needs to be rebuilt, hence I need to move all it's roles to the other DC. Whats the order of work to do? I understand it to be Fismo transfer to other DC DNS transfer to other DC DHCP transfer to other DC Disconnet and rebuild server. Do I have to do this in any particular order? The other server is already running a DNS service and is also a GC server.

FSRM Moving File Screens
by Guest Julio- 2 replies

Hello everyone, Does anybody know of a way of moving file screens from one server to another? I know how to move the file screen templates and file groups using the “filescrn template export & filescrn filegroup export” commands. Our file server crashed but we were able to bring it back online and were able to access the c:\ drive via an OS parallel installation and would now like to copy the file screens to the new file server. Thanks in advance! Julio

Hi all, first of all I not sure I should be posting this here so please bear with me and suggest other groups name if I am wrong. On the same network, I have 2 subnet: 1 is 10.3.29.X/24 with its gateway 2 is 10.3.129.X/128 with its gateway Well actually there is only one gateway which routes from one subnet to the other. I have a DHCP on 10.3.29.X serving this subnet range. I want a DHCP on 10.3.129.X serving this subnet range as well. Last day I turned on the 10.3.129.X DHCP and ended up with PCs on that I want on the 10.3.29.X receiving 10.3.129.X addresses. Now I am not too sure how I can seperate the 2 subnets would it be something I can set up …

Network users appear to not authenticate
by Guest nwhamilton@gmail.com- 1 reply

I recently stepped up to administrate a small Windows Server 2003 network including one server and two rooms of 16 computers. Each room is on a different subnet. The problem I am seeing is that network users don't appear to authenticate properly. Login's take 2 - 3 minutes and after logging in, the network resources are not readily available. We can't share printers or access shared drives. When looking up the users current login information on the machine, I see something resembling a hex code rather than the user's login name. Any ideas/help?

2 Locations - One or Two Domains?
by Guest nmowatt- 3 replies

Okay, this is the scenario: I have two location, NC and FL. NC is a new company that aquired a company in FL. NC wants a server with Exchange and also wants FL to be on that same domain and be able to send email through that Exchange server. What is the best way to set this up? I've never done this before and I have a couple of ideas in my head but I am not sure what is the correct way of doing this. 1 Domain or 2 Domains under the same tree? If 1 domain, how do you handle Active Directory replication across a VPN connection (VIA the Internet). Do I need two exchange servers or could they just connect via the VPN or would that be too slow? Any he…

Built-in container and System account questions
by Guest runner7@fastmail.fm- 3 replies

Hi. These questions are just to try to get a handle on what some of this stuff means in Windows Server. Any help would be most appreciated. Is the Built-in container which contains the default groups the same as an OU? If not, what is the difference between the two? The System account seems to have permissions to folders by default. What happens if you delete it and set permissions only for people user accounts? Do you lose functionality for some services? Do you enhance security? Thanks.

DHCP Statistics

lI am running DHCP on a Win2K Adv Server w/ SP4. I have one scope defined and when I right click to display statistics, I see 104 total addresses, x number of addresses available (x is usually less than 20 every day). When I go over to the option to check which machines currently have address leases - I count only around 44. What tools can I use to try to isolate what additional hardward could be using the extra addresses? Is there someplace else I can look to see why all of my leased addresses get used up. I have reduced the lease duration time so it's not not a matter of a machine getting an address and not releasing it. Any suggestions woulod be a…
