roaming profile difficulties
by Guest vistamfg- 1 reply

We have a small network with about a dozen computers. I have been updating the users to roaming profiles and have created a share on the server with all the users in it with the appropriate permissions. Most of the computers converted to roaming profiles with no problems. All I had to do was log off and back on to enable the roaming profile button. When I logged off again, the user's profile was saved to the server. On two of the older computers, however, the roaming profile option is still greyed out after multiple shut downs. I have checked the group policy on these computers (gpedit.msc) and nothing is configured, so there is nothing blocking t…

R2 - File Screen Management - Scripting
by Guest lforbes- 1 reply

I have 2500 Users who have their home directories arranged based on last name and in folders for A, B, C, etc. I have a File Screen blocking saving of mp3's, exe's etc. However I have about 60 users who are working on a project that need the ability to save these things. The File Screem Management seems extremely limited in that it wants you to create each exception manually with no ability to copy or anything. I don't want to create 60 exceptions manually. You can't seem to set file screening up by group and moving their home directories is not an option (as they will be out of this project in a few months and new people will be in it). Is there…

by Guest BuckySteven- 1 reply

Hi experts: It is easy for a domain admin add his domain admin account into the enterprise group. Isn't this a big security issue? A domain admin may take control of the whole forest... How can I prevent this to happen?

help installing exchange on server 2003
by Guest greg benic- 4 replies

Our client has 2 servers. DNS appears to be on #2. IIS is on #1. I installed exchange on #1. I can't run the mail wizard. I keep getting an error. I am wondering if there is a way to tell if these computers are part of a cluster. I am also wondering how to tell which one is the default domain controller. Perhaps Exchange can't work in this scenario? Thanks for any and all advice.

Not sure when this started, but I'm seeing this on a couple servers, been at least a week. "MSDEWriter" has reported an error 0x800423f0. Contacted MS, they are suppose to email be a hot fix... Got it and it reports that the SP is newer than the hot fix... Anyone else seen this and fixed it? -- Leythos - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)

RAS connection via MS VPN - change MAC Address
by Guest akf-admin- 0 replies

Dear All, I have a little problem. We decided to use the MS VPN Client to connect our employees to our network, because it's "build in" and the computer will be full managed logged to the network while using a RAS connection. Our Structure is a 3rd Party Firewall Appliance, MS RAS, RADIUS and Certificate Server. Also we use MS SMS 2003 to deploy software updates. Problem: The MS VPN Client cames always with the same MAC Address, to connect to the RAS-Server. In this case it is impossible to set an ip-address reservation within the DHCP server. So the VPN Client changes it's IP with each new connection. Our SMS 2003 Server will recognize each new…

"Deleting - printed"
by Guest Tyler McLaughlin- 2 replies

We upgraded our print cluster (W2K3 SP1) to SP2 last week. Ever since the upgrade we have an issue with the following 4 HP "inbox" drivers: HP LaserJet 4 HP LajerJet 5 HP LaserJet 1200 PCL HP LaserJet 4000 PCL 6 The issue is this; any and all jobs spooled through queues using any one of the above mentioned drivers remain in a "Deleting - printed" state after successfully printing. I've seen a post on the internet regarding this http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=742518 which recommends giving "everyone" full control to the WINDOWS\Temp directory. I've tested this and it is not working. I've also tried reinstalling those 4 print driver…

High usage on non paged memory pool / clustered system

Dear all, I am suffering with high usage of non paged memory pool on my clustered servers running on Windows Server 2003 Server R2 Enterprise SP2. The typical usage is 100 - 110 MB. The memory pool tag MmCm is using 50 MB of NPP. Let's describe my setup. I have 3-node cluster consisting of 2 HP DL 380 G5 servers and one virtual server on VMware (this server acts as an arbiter in MNS MSCS cluster). Both servers has 4 GB of physical RAM installed. Both servers is using /3GB /PAE /USERVA=3030 boot.ini parameters specified. I have clustered Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server Enteprise with SP2 running on one one. The second node has file server share clustered r…

Infrastructure is 2003 DCs, nearly all 2003 file servers and XP Sp2 clients. When mapping a drive to one of the DFS root shares on the Domain DFS (e.g. \\contoso.com\public) the extended name displayed within Explorer shows an off-site DC name. The public share has multiple links to servers in every site. To try and make this a little clearer if we have DCs in New York, Chicago and Seattle called NYDC, CDC and SDC and I am in the New York site, when I map to the DFS share \\contoso.com\public the drive letter will show the contents of the Computer Description field of the Seattle DC or the Chicago DC next to the drive letter. I've traced the network…
