Terminal Server logon problem
by Guest RGA- 14 replies

I upgraded my SBS 2003 server over the weekend and all went well. In doing so, I had to demote the other DC in my domain and rejoin it to the new SBS server's domain. I now cannot log on to the other DC remotely with terminal server. I have checked all the policy and terminal server settings and permissions and I can't seem to figure it out. I am able to log on with my personal domain acct but the administrator account gets the "To log on to this remote computer you must be granted the Allow log on throuogh Terminal Services right" message. This is really baffling me as I have set all of the settings (I thought) to match those on the SBS 2003 server which …

Policies folder
by Guest Marvin Bordelon- 1 reply

The "policies" folder located in the c:\winnt\sysvol\domain folder has grown to 466mb. While browing through this folder I see over 1700 folders with really long names. Inside of these folders are files named "inetres.adm" and "system.adm" . Some of these files date back to 2002. Can any of these files be deleted?

Install backup software on my AD?
by Guest badamsios- 1 reply

I don't like the idea of my AD server doing anything other than AD. My co-working insists we must put the backup software on and run the backups FROM AD. I'd rather have a dedicated backup server. We are getting a new disk to disk to tape system to speed up disaster recovery so I'm looking for the fastest backup and restore options possible while still protecting my AD as much as possible. What's the best practice for backing up AD? Brian

Certificate Authority
by Guest Steve Cook- 1 reply

I have a stand-alone internal CA which appears to silently fail to publish its revocation list. I can view revoked certificates and publishing either new or delta produces no displayed or logged errors. However, the CRL is empty and has an old timestamp. Can anybody give me pointers on how to resolve this? This is a fully patched Windows 2003 workgroup server.

Cannot find Domain Controller
by Guest ats@jbex- 3 replies

I have a small test domain consisting of a router that acts as DHCP server, a Windows 2003 server and an XP machine. Both machines are fully up to date with all patches and Service Packs. The XP machine gets it's IP address from teh router and the server has a static IP address. Thes erver runs email & internet servers both of which are accessible from the XP machine. However, whenever I log in to the XP machine I cannot access anything on the server. The Event Log shows error ID 1054 saying that Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your network. Also error ID 15: Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to contact t…

Is there a setting second setting that needs to be turned on?

I have a question. Assume I have a server that contains a folder with a domain account that allows read/execute/create privilages and NOT modify. Now, a user in that domain creates a file in the folder and, as the owner, has full privlages... will that user be able to modify the file?

RWW for W2K3 Std.?
by Guest Michael Hering- 8 replies

Hello everyone, I know that Remote Web Workplace (RWW) is a standard feature of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server; however, I was wondering if there is a similar feature that can be installed on a Microsoft Windows 2003 Standard Server? We have a client who is interested in this technology, but their environment warrants a full standard edition of Windows Server. Thanks everyone and I look forward to reading your responses.

Scheduled task fails to run applet when not logged in ?!?
by Guest Patrick- 0 replies

All, I have a scheduled task that runs a remote applet (i.e. connect and downloads applet via IE browser). If I run the Scheduled Task when interactively logged in - it works fine. When I let the scheduler run the task (i.e. not logged in) - the scheduled tasks runs and completes but the applet stops (i.e. basic: Stopping applet... => as seen in JRE logs). Has anyone seen this before? Haven't had any luck with coming up with a fix yet. Regards, Patrick

by Guest Jeff- 1 reply

Hey I have 2 computers at home (winXP and win2k3) Now I'm trying to configure the win2k3 pc as DNS server... but after I've created an forward lookup zone (in dnsmgmt ) and run nslookup I get this info: Can't find server name for 192.168.x.x : non-existent domain Default Server: unknown Address: 192.168.x.x I haven't configured an reverse lookup zone yet. I wonder if I've configured this wrong (maybe something else than reverse lookup zone is causing this?. I ask because I'm a newbie on DNS...).... Here is how I did it: I installed DNS and configured the server to use static IP addresses. in Advanced TCP/IP settings I've added the server as DNS ser…

Win2K3 Enterprise server and Media Services client access
by Guest netearth- 0 replies

HI all, I need to lock down a windows 2003 Enterprise Media services server, the user has paid accounts and requires only 1 username and password can access the server at any one time, I have been playing with this for ages now and cant seem to get only 1 at a time set. It works great if you want to allow more than 1 connection out of the box, sadly this is not what the client wants though ~:( (pesky clients ;) ) I had thought about doing this through TCPIP addressing but the problem is most of the clients are on dyamic ip rather than static. I thought of a possible solution using a webpage to allow user to login, grab the IP and inject it into the…
