by Guest dcraige27- 7 replies

We have our users configured in active directory with their home directories mapped to \\server\share\username using drive letter P:. We are using the proile tab of the users' properties. We use the Home folder section of the profile tab as follows: Connect P: to \\server\share\username We also have each users my documents redirected to the P:\My Documents. When the user browses to the \\server\share, they get access denied if they try to access another user's home folder, so we have confirmed the permissions are correct. We have found 2 users in the past few weeks whose My Documents have redirected to another user's My documents and they could …

Windows server 2003 printing problem - dialog box on console must beclicked to resume priting I have a Win 2003 Server Standard box that I am using as a print server. There are around 50 network printers that are connected to queues on this server. All our users connect to qhared queues on the server rather than directly to the printers via IP. The problem I am having is when there is some type of communication problem with certain printers. I get a call saying users can't print and when I remote in to the server everyting looks fine except that there are several jobs in the queue waiting. When I walk to the server room and log on to the machine directly, th…

Automating DCOM permissions
by Guest Wierdbeard65- 0 replies

Hi, I am trying to automate the building od student machines for the classroom using GHOST. So far, everything is working well, however I need to set the DCOM security settings on each machine individually. I have a batch file that is running to do various things after the ghost build, so I need to know how to add this in to the mix. I have a couple of components that I need to add a user in to the "Launch and Activation Permissions" on the "Security" tab as well as altering the username / password on the "Identity" tab. How do I do this from a batch file / command line? Many thanks, Paul

by Guest Brian J- 2 replies

I have been asked to investigate a Windows server. The server is unknown to me but is 2003. The client suspects rogue user activity. The user was a support technician with administrator privileges. The activity occurred some weeks ago. I have few details but the activity included, but was not necessarily limited to, a large number of outbound e-mails generated automatically by a program. The client has firewall, anti virus and anti spam software installed but I do not know which programs. Please can anyone suggest ... .... any post incident strategies for finding or tracing rogue activity .... utilities that verify the integrity of System files a…

RSM eject command line errors, Help please
by Guest CLarke- 1 reply

In my backup scripts for Windows 2003 server we use rsm eject /LF"Library_id" /Astart and it ejects the tapoe all the time. When I send the same in Windows XP it says Additional arguments required. I have no idea what additional arguments are required. It is an HP USB DAT 72 Tape Drive, and it works perfectly on a Windows 2003 server, but not on Windows XP. I even tried the Guid and changing the command to /LG"GUID" but it still says additional arguments required. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

rsm

I found a great backup script at http://www.infoshop.co.uk/products/infoshop/scripts/bn-backup.htm. I have to hard code the GUID for each tape, no problem there. But another web article I was reading said that sometimes just the tape GUID was not enough. But a logical GUID maybe required. If I format the tape myself using RSM, then is there usually only one partition (unless I set the format differently) so I only really need the tape GUID and not the logical GUID? Thanks,

Currently we use a Windows 2003 Storage Server as our file server and this has all our asp and files stored which is accessed from about 10 IIS6 machines using UNC share. We are now upgrading to Windows 2008 IIS7 and wondered if it would be faster if the file server was now moved to Windows 2008 as well to take adventage of SMB 2.0 Is Windows 2008 server faster natively than the Windows 2003 Storage Server in this type of environment for serving files? Thanks.

by Guest PhilipB- 2 replies

2 client machines have suddenly developed this message at logon: "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found." These PCs are running XP Professional SP3, on an SBS2003 domain, and are shown as client computers on the domain controller. These PCs have successfully been on the domain for 11 months. I have tried alternate passwords (which are know to be good passwords as they are in use on a daily basis but still get the same message. I have tried the usual passwords for the affected PCs on other PCs and they work on the alternate machines. …

Applying share permissions is slow
by Guest Justin- 1 reply

Hello, We have a Windows 2003 SP2 file server in a 2003 native mode AD that uses Global Security groups for controlling share level access. Once a user is added to the security group, the permissions don't seem to be active right away, and they continue to get access denied errors until they Log off and back on to their workstation. Why is the new group membership not recognized right away and is there any way to have it apply without the user doing a relogin? All of our PC's are XP SP2. Thanks! Justin
