Are you a Windows guru with C++?
by Guest Maryellen- 0 replies

HI! I work at VMware and have been watching this list for a while and I thought there are some of you that might be interested in an opportunity here for a Senior Engineer that has solid Windows experience. We need someone with solid C++ but also with some Windows Management Systems experience. We are in Palo Alto (if you live in other locations in the USA we might have remote offices close to you, so please do not let location be an issue, as long as you are in the USA) and we are spinning out an IPO this summer, so timing is excellent, technology is exciting (we are the leaders in virtualization) and your hands on expertise would be highly valued. Please con…

Hello, How can a FTP site be set up to accept one user id? How does anonymous access work? What user name and password should be assigned? Is the user name and password a domain level one or a local one to the ftp site? I am having problems allowing an account to connect to the ftp site. It says that the access is denied. Please help. -- Thank you for your help! JYC

is there anything other then Remote Assistance for remote assistance...
by Guest Kelvin Beaton- 9 replies

I spent a short stint a year or so ago working in a Help Desk environemnt. On that network they had some Netware server and there was a software package that we used to remotely access the user PC... I think we entered the user account name, the got a popup that asked if we agreed to give them access to their system and likely asked what level of access to give us. The product might have been or had something to do with ZenWorks... I suspect there was an agent installed on both machines... Is there a Micrsoft equivilent? It seems like Remote Assistance has too many hoops to go through... Thanks Kelvin

Adding large files to an ISO image
by Guest Thinkpad21- 0 replies

Looking for a software that will permit editing an ISO file, to add large files in it... We have ISO images of standard machines, but want to add files to the ISO image ranging from 1 to 3 gig each file. Most ISO editing software limit the addition to 200 or 500 meg. Wondering if someone had done this before and what tool did they use.. Thanks !!! -- --

Boot.ini /3GB switch problem?
by Guest John Kotuby- 0 replies
Hi all, On a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise web server that also runs SQL Server 2005 Standard and a rather large ASP.NET 2.0 application, I tried to improve performance by adding the /3GB switch to the boot.ini file. The server has only 4GB of RAM. After adding the switch, hoping to boost performace for SQL Server, and rebooting the machine, I now find that my ASP.NET application which uses SQL Server as a backend, is running much slower than before. I have since removed the /3GB switch from the boot.ini and rebooted the server, but the peformance has not returned. Is there a registry setting that might be stuck that I would need to fix? Thank…

by Guest Sasha B- 0 replies

Hi, I just installed a DC in Branch Office. Everything in term of AD synch looks fine except Query-based Distribution Groups. When I open a Users and Computers on my Branch DC I can't proper see any Query-based Distribution Group objects. I have one DC in the Central office, and just put second DC in my Branch. I do DNS synch via AD, create a side with different subnet for Branch in the same Zone. What the problem with my Query-based Distribution Group, why they are not synch between offices? Thank you in advance, Sasha

DFSR Large Backlog
by Guest Nate Johnson- 1 reply

Hello- We have a huge backlog that is taking forever to clear. I looked at it yesterday and there were over 750 files. To give some more background, there was a power outage and this server crashed (the UPS didn't last through the outage). We have also been plagued since DFSR implementation (I believe) by frequent 5014 events that I can't seem to get rid of. DFSR is running on two domain controllers seperated by a WAN and connected via a SonicWALL Site-to-Site VPN.

How do I confirm that my time server is running and that my work stations are pointed to it? 1 2

How do I confirm that my time server is running and that my work stations are pointed to it? I have a Windows 2003 server that is my DC. My XP SP2 workstations are not getting their time from that server. Their times are not the same anyway. All the workstations are port of my domain. Is there a good check list I can go throught to make sure everything is configured correclty? The Windows Time service is running and is set to start automatically. Event view doesn't have any Time Service event that I can see. Where do I find the "Peerlist" ? If I change the time on my DC, how long should I have to wait to see it change back to the correct time? How…

by Guest SvdV- 1 reply

I've got 8 windows 2003 systems standard running. 3 of the 8 server experiance the next problem: If i try to backup the system state, the server freeze. The only solution to get the server back to work, is power down and then power up the server. There's no logging in the event- or system log. I als try'd a microsoft article to reregister the VSS components, but this was not the solution for mine problem. I try'd to make a backup whit the NTBackup util and try'd the backup-exec application. Both failed. I als listed the VSS writers by command 'vssadmin list writers'. There are no errors reported in that list. The OS is up-to-date. Who can help me? What can…
