by Guest Leo- 1 reply

I have installed trial version of windows server 2003 standard for testing. Now we have purchased VLK and need to apply it to the test server without doing a compete reinstall. Test server has an application and I do not want to lose the database on it. Is there a way to swap the product key so that I can continue to use it without complete install?

Prevent Application popup windows
by Guest Webbert- 0 replies
I just got involved in a production issue and believe that there is a popup window that is preventing the system from running until someone presses "OK". The only indication that I have at this point is a screen shot of an event log that shows Source: Application Popup Category: None Type: Information Event ID: 26 User: N/A No other information is available. I thought that there was a way with Dr. Watson to prevent any and all popups from displaying on a server that expects no UI. Can anyone point me in the right direction to prevent the popups from occuring? Thanks, Dave

Hi there, I joined a Windows 2003 Standard X64 R2 server to my current domain. I am having problems with replication. I followed all of the instructions with dcdiag.exe I could find on technet. In active directory sites and services when I tell my new server to push replication to my old server i get the following error: "The following error occured during the attempt to synchronize naming context domain.com from domain controller DCnew to domain controller DCold. The naming context is in the process of being removed or is not replicated from the specified server. This operation will not continue" Anyone have any idea why these two wont talk? both…

Decommissioning of a Server

I want to decommission my old primary W2003SE server (the hand crank broke) and I undersatnd that part of the process involves the FSMO. Can the FSMO process be done while the system is in production or do I do it off-hours? Also, I have a static IP address assigned to the DNS address, on the same server. After I demote the old server, can I move the IP address to my new server?

wallpaper reverting back
by Guest UWRFREPORTER04- 0 replies
I'm experience a small, but annoying problem where sometimes after you restart the wallpaper reverts back to a basic blue background. Under the settings the correct wallpaper is selected and it takes affect once you click ok, but can't figure out why that happens. This may or may not related. There are times where the desktop doesn't load either. It comes to a blank blue screen with nothing on it, not even a task bar. I'm able to hit ctrl-alt-delete and either log off or shut down or enter "explorer" to load the desktop. Most of these pcs were reformatted with a clean install of windows.

SMTP: Unable to delete virtual domain
by Guest Paul- 1 reply

Hi, There is a domain inside the IIS SMTP that I can not delete. The default domain is there, that is made up of my fqdn and called (Default), but there is another domain that is listed with garbled characters and called (Normal). 2nd mouse click doesn't show the delete command. I used regedit to search for the name of the rogue domain but the string value doesn't exist in the registry. Any ideas how I can get rid of this rogue domain? Thanks.

Event ID 1202 - Error code 0x6fc
by Guest doug.masters@gmail.com- 2 replies

Getting this error about every 12 hours, only on one DC. I have followed the directions in KB324383 and found the two accounts that it is unhappy about. Yesterday I found that one of the accounts was in the Login Locally section of the Default Domain Controller Policy and removed it. I didn't find the other one anywhere. This morning I still get the error and issuing the FIND command on the winlogon.log reports the same two accounts as yesterday, however when I run the FIND on the GPT*.* files , those two users names are NOT found in either policy.

Performance of System Calls
by Guest Michael Shire- 0 replies

Is there a calculation that I can do to determine a threshold for "normal", "warning", and "critical" states for the number of system calls per second? Background... Take a look at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/topics/win2003/perfmon.mspx It discusses using WMI scripts to monitor performance. One part of the article discusses "System Calls per Second". How do I know when the value that comes back is "good" or "bad"???

The specified network name is no longer available
by Guest pscottllee- 3 replies

We have a file server running W2K3. When trying to copy the file to another W2K3 machine, I get the following error, "the specified network name is no longer available." Nothing gets logged into the log file. From another W2K3 machine on a different subnet, I was able to successfully copy the file. I then copied the file to the server that was having the issues. Networking claims that there are no dropped packets. Anyone have the same issue?
