Hello. I have a file that is accessible to everyone in the department (they are all members of the same security group). One lead member of the group, however, needs to be able to modify the file, and everyone else in the group needs to simply read the file. The layout is as follows: Root Folder - (Dept Group Has Modify Perm.) |_ Tracking Folder - (Lead Staff Has Modify; Dept Group has Read/ Exec/List - NOT Inherited) |_ Tracking FILE - (Lead Staff Has Full Control; Dept Group has Read/Exec - NOT Inherited) Something is wrong, however, because everyone in the department group can still modify the file. How can I do this? Any hel…

Anyone remember the Mark Russinovich tool NotMyFault? It let you simulate certain crash scenarios to test the impacts on your system. However since the MS takeover of sysinternals I can't find it for download anymore. Anyone has it, or knows where I can find it or something similar? Thanks Ib

by Guest Win2k3 64 Bit Licensing..Critical!- 1 reply

I have a windows 2003 64 Bit Evaluation Server installed running SQL2005 for a specific application. We were forced to upgrade immediately from 32bit due to a requirement from our outside vendor. We used the Evaluation version until our VLK key came in. We now have the VLK and would like to upgrade the license. How do I do this without screwing up the SQL 2005 install which is running our application? Thank you! Fred

Help with RDR File system blue screen
by Guest Edward- 1 reply

I am a little stuck with rescuing a windows 2000 server (with exchange 2K) which was happy to boot to safe mode, but when asking it to boot normally, it will just give a blue screen prompting Rdr_file_system error. This happens after it was on the "making network connection" screen for about 5 minutes in initial boot up. I have not installed any new hardware or software and to make matter worse, I loss the emergency repair disk! I have also tried using the "last known good configuration" option after F8 and that failed too. Any suggestion or help from anyone?

In one of our labs I this command to connect a network printer and make it available to all users of the computer: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /ga /n\\server\%printername% The command seems to have worked because when i connect with any user that has admin rights the printer shows up and works just fine. However when i log in with the normal account that would be used on the computer which is just a normal user account the printer does NOT show up. Also when I browse for the printer and right click on it and click connect to connect it manually I get the following error: "You do no…

all external web functionality goes down
by Guest tlachaussie@gmail.com- 0 replies

I have a Windows 2003 server that I am using to host a website. The problem is that at least once a day all external web functionality comes to a hault. The reason I only say external is because I can still go to the website using the internal server name or IP. And the reason I say 'comes to a hault' is because I am able to access the website for a couple hours at a time, at which when things go bad restarting the server brings things back to working condition again for another couple hours. Below is my configuration. External IP 1 - Firewall 1 Internal IP 192.168.111.33 Gateway 192.168.111.1 DNS Server 192.168.111.9 External IP 2 - Firewa…

Hello, I am running 2003 Server in a server with 6 SCSI hard disks. I have a software array of 2 O/S mirrored, 4 data Raid 5. SCSI disk 0 had failed with bad blocks. Originally, I could not get it to boot, missing or corrupt c/windows/sys32/config/system. Corrected that and booted into O/S. Mirrored disks appear as Online w/errors. I need to replace the drive. I tried to remove the mirror from Disk 0, however, I get an error :Logical Disk Manager, operation failed to complete. The server is running for now, but I need to replace this drive. Can someone help. Thanks,
