W2K3 File Share Access
by Guest PCKC- 1 reply

I have an NT domain 'DOMAIN' and one W2K3 R2 Standard file server. The W2K3 server is not joined to the domain, but belongs to a workgroup 'DOMAIN'. I have a few XP workstations which also belong to a workgroup 'DOMAIN'. When attempting to access shares on W2K3 file server shares, they are prompted to enter their credentials. File shares are shared with everyone full control. Is there a prevent users from being prompted for their passwords - without having to join the NT domain?

Windows Server 2003 - Home Server
by Guest Roger Stenson- 1 reply

Hi all Given that this version of the 2003 server is getting reasonably visible on the Microsoft site, I was disappointed to read that it was seen purely as a server. I hoped it would run Windows Media Center, I would really like a one machine solution to deal with all my business whilst away. It would be nice to ask this program to do all my TV recording without leaving a Desktop running. Also it seems a server rather than client role to service XBOX machines. .. I would be grateful to hear if it would run XP Media Server, or perhaps as a compromise,, would run side by side under Virtual Machine with a Vista Home Premium system that could do this work…

Hello: I am receiving this event error when attempting to print to a an HP ColorLaserJet 2650. Nothing prints--no error on the client. I am viewing the error from the event viewer on the file and print cluster. I can ping the ip for the printer...I can also go into the devices configuration and print from there but no jobs are going to the printer. Nothing appears wrong with the printer from the network view. So far I have tried putting in a generic driver then revert back to the correct one with no luck Event ID text Event Type: Error Event Source: Print Event Category: None Event ID: 6161 Date: 7/19/2007 Time: 10:59:52 AM User: edite…

Windows 2000 Server repeated event
by Guest mig1980- 3 replies

Good day everyone. I have an issue that has been ongoing for quite some time. Every 3 minutes or so I get an system event from Source: Userenv and states "Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. Return Value (59)" The weird thing is that this is the domain controller. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? This has been going on since day 1 of this server being live. Thanks in advance. -- mig1980 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mig1980's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=28178 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=785…

Upgrade from Windows Server 2003 Standard to Enterprise Edition
by Guest Davidg12- 2 replies
We have Windows Server 2003 Standard edition installed on a box that supports several SQL Server 2005 Enterprise database applications. We are running out of memory and found that the standard edition has a 4 GB limit on RAM. AS such, we need to upgrade to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 32 bit in order to allow additional RAM to be installed. My question is: Can we install Windows Server 2003 Enterprise directly over the Standard edition? If so, are there any limitations or potential problems with SQL Server 2005? Or, do we need to install Windows Server 2003 Enterprise directly from scratch and then install SQL Server? Thank you. David

Policy being ignored on machine in domain
by Guest John- 1 reply

I've got a machine running 64bit XP Pro, fully up-to-date, on our domain here. When a user logs in they get what appears to be the policy except for one element: the background page doesn't work. Normally the desktop changes to an active desktop that we have set up with our usage policy and other important information. However, it's not working for users. This only happens on 64bit XP, and I don't know why. Is this a known issue, and is there a workaround?

Guys, I am getting instructions from a vendor to go to this key and delete something uderneath it. The person asks me to log into a particular account (in which the person is having some problem with the software) to perform the task. client machine not registering with DNS
by Guest Saqib Ali- 3 replies

We have "some" machines that fail to register with the dynamic DNS. The machines are all part of the Active Directory, and I can see the machines in the Computer OU. However nslookup on the machine name fails. This only happens with a handful of machines. The rest of them register with the DNS fine. All the machine are identical. We use BIND for dynamic DNS. I have already tried uninstalling / reinstalling the network driver, repairing the TCP/IP stack, and re-installing the Printer and File Sharing client. Anyway to force the machine to register itself with the DNS? saqib http://www.linkedin.com/in/encryption
