"error on page"
by Guest Eileen- 7 replies

I have tried now for days and have spent many hours on the phone with hardware manufacturers and internet provider "experts" but have been unable to solve this problem: Every time I attempt to access a specific website (and ONLY this website), I get an error on page message on far left lower corner. In addition, I cannot see any pictures and a strange message (below) appears. The website in question is http://www.dell.com. The irony is that I am using a Dell computer. We have disabled windows firewall and my antivirus software and still same error. We have updated adobe flash and JAVA. We have attempted to access this site with several browsers and st…

Load balanced SMTP servers
by Guest Joe Brown- 1 reply

We have 3 SMTP servers. Several internal apps use these for relaying. Most of these apps only allow for one SMTP server when sending out alerts. If the server the app points too is unavavailbe then the apps can't send out emails. Can these be placed behind a CISCO load balancer? Is it supported? Are there any caveats?

Trouble Restarting via RDP
by Guest TonyCC- 2 replies

When I restart my Windows Server 2003 SP2 server via remote desktop (terminal services) my session will close but the server won't restart. But reconnecting via RDP is not possible anymore. The only solution is by going to the console locally or via the remote Dell DRAC board, and then do a restart from there. The Shutdown -r from a command prompt also works. Any ideas?

Windows Server 2003 Print Server Troubleshooting
by Guest DSI Admin- 4 replies

Greetings! I have an interesting problem I thought I would share to see if anyone has any suggestions. Please bear with me, I've been banging my head on this for a while. Our printing network consists of a Print Server setup on our SDC running Windows Server 2003, SP2 (don't yell, I didn't set it up and now I'm stuck with it until I can free up another server), different types of laser printers including Konica-Minolta, different models of HP and a couple of odd-ball models, and clients all running Windows XP Pro, mostly SP2, some SP3. A few weeks ago I had to replace a corrupt driver on the print server for the HP LaserJet 1022n, of which we have ab…

Problem with network transfers in Windows 2003 Server
by Guest Kevin Schuman- 14 replies

Ok, i'll start off with my network topology. I have a Windows 2003 Server (SP3) running a 5TB RAID5. I have 1 Windows XP workstation, 1 Windows 2000 Workstation and one Ubuntu Linux workstation. Please note I did not have this problem when I was running XP Pro on the machine that is now running 2003 Server, so I have almost no reason to believe it is a hardware problem. I am running simple file sharing (This is a home network, I had to go to 2003 to handle GPT volumes unfortunately). I have administrative accounts on all 3 windows machines with administration permissions and the same password. The Issue: When I login to one of the workstations…

Volume Shadow Copy Service with NTBackup
by Guest Chris- 0 replies

Hi Community, Looking for a dumb down explanation of VSS with NTBackup by adding /SNAP:on switch. We use an application called Syspro, which if we were not a cheap organization can use a SQL server - however we are stuck with the ISAM data files for now. Currently we backup the data nightly, after hours using CA ArcServ tape backup. I want to implement a backup that works on weekends to Hard disk and a daily backup to hard disk. Now, since the data files are constantly changing through out the day it makes it difficult to backup the data until off-hours. Does VSS with ntbackup take a snapshot of the data (all the data) at one specific instan…

Error migrating printers using PrintBRM
by Guest Tim Crosby- 7 replies

I am using Vista's print management console to connect to a Windows Server 2003 print server to try and export the printers to a file. When I right-click the server and select "Export printers to a file", it starts the wizard and I tell it to save the file on the C: drive of the Vista machine. It starts exporting printers and printer drivers. It gets about 95% of the way through and says "Export complete: Windows encountered errors during the migration process. Open Event Viewer for more information". If I open event viewer, I see nothing but informational events showing the drivers being exported, no warnings or errors. But my backup file never gets …

Svchost Memory Leak in Windows 2003 sp1
by Guest Alex Loh- 2 replies

Currently we are seeing a memory leak occuring in svchost process via Task Manager in Windows 2003 sp1. Upon investigation, we found out that svchost's services are as below: - Application Experience Lookup Service - Background Intelligent Transfer Service - Cryptographic Services - COM+ Event System - Server - Workstation - Network Connections - Network Location Awareness (NLA) - Task Scheduler - System Event Notification - Windows Management Instrumentation The svchost consume up to 200+ MB in 10 days after reboot. Anybody have any idea how to overcome this issue. Thanks -- Alex Loh --------------------------------------------------------…
