Unable to resolve SPNEGO Event ID 40961 errors
by Guest Leythos- 12 replies

I have a few workstations, not all of them, that randomly start getting security failures in their event logs, rebooting the main server and the workstations often takes care of it, but not always. I've looked all over the net, tried many things, but I can't seem to shake this. Anyone have a solution path for getting rid of these errors? Event Type: Warning Event Source: LSASRV Event Category: SPNEGO (Negotiator) Event ID: 40961 Date: 11/25/2007 Time: 11:49:23 AM User: N/A Computer: WS56 Description: The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server ldap/servername…

I am installing a Windows 2003 std server on a dell 2950 system. Brand New from Dell, and I am using their software to load. Everything went fine with the install and the software loaded without incident. I patched the system fully with MS patches. Everything was great until I went to configure the server for AD as a member server on a domain with 2003 std (R1). First thing that happend is this release is R2 and the other releases on the other two servers are R1 release that is fully patched. The first thing it errored out was I got a message stating that the Schema wasn't compatable between the this version R2 and the other R1 and that I had to run…

Event ID: 7023 - Invalid access to memory location.
by Guest Tom wilson- 11 replies

I have a Windows 2003 R2 server running SQL Server 2000. This appears in the event log every 15 minutes: EventID: 7023 The Network Connections service terminated with the following error: Invalid access to memory location. Sometimes it's: EventID: 7023 The Cryptographic Services service terminated with the following error: Invalid access to memory location. The other odd thing is I can't get to Windows Update with this machine. I can get to other websites but WU takes foverer to load, then asks me if I want to update the softare. I say yes and it just sits there. In an article somewhere it suggested registering a list of DLL's related to Window…

Remove "orphaned" domains from Log On To box?
by Guest doug.masters@gmail.com- 9 replies
- 730 views
Last Friday, my company disconnected our WAN from our former owner. We both shared the same domain, we seized all FSMO roles to your DC's after being disconnected. That seemed to go well, the event logs on my DC's are pretty clean and no users are reporting any problems. The former owner had several other domains that would show up in the Log On To drop down box. We never logged into those, but since we're disconnected I would like to remove those and only offer the valid domains. My only thought on what to check was the Domains & Trusts, those domains do not exist there. Thanks in advance for pointing me in the direction I need to go.

DFS errors on configuring replication
by Guest Geoff Lane- 8 replies

I've got two servers: Server1 is a recently rebuilt Win2k3 Standard R2 that was previously Win2k3 Standard. The rebuild was because VSS stopped working. Server2 is Win2k Server SP4. Both servers are DCs with Server1 holding all FSMO roles. For the rebuild, I transfered FSMO roles to Server2 then demoted Server1 before reformatting and installing the new OS. Once rebuilt, I tried unsuccesfully to promote Server1 to a DC and subsequently had to use ADSIEdit to clean up the AD before rebuilding again and then successfully promoting Server1, which now also holds the FSMO roles. Mindful of the advice in DFS Help, I've done all the configuration of DFS from…

Long reboot
by Guest r. wales- 11 replies
I have a win 2k3 server that takes a long time to reboot. It is fully patched. This is not new or recent behavior and as far as I can tell has always been like this. As the server boots up, it spends around 11 minutes 'Preparing Network Connections'. This is a lot more time than our other servers spend during this same phase. Any thoughts or ideas? It's more of a nuisance than a problem, I just want to see if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it or if I will just have to live with it. Thanks.

Hi all. I've googled a lot, but I've found out various and different opinions: Is it correct to use chkdsk /F and chkdsk /F /R on a RAID 1 system and on a RAID 5 (with 3 HDs) system ? All my systems are hardware RAIDs and the servers are domain controller with w2k srv and w2k3 srv. Thanks a lot. Bye, Rosgiof.

Servers "stop"
by Guest Guus Ellenkamp- 2 replies

I have a small network with 2 domain controllers with Windows Server 2003. They are also used as workstations, which has worked fine, until a few weeks ago. Since this time they "freeze" for a few minutes like every half hour or so. I cannot find anything in the error log and can't imagine what it is. I have the feeling it is network related, but cannot pinpoint it. Today I heard that when there is only one user using them everything is fine. As soon as more users arrive, the problem starts. I have been experimenting with IPV6, but still can't imagine why this would affect the system(s). Please advise.

Roaming Profiles and Redirected folders
by Guest Scott Micale- 14 replies

We use roaming profiles and redirected folders. I want to know what is the right setting on the share for offline settings. Should it be: 1. Only the files and programs that users specify will be available offline. 2. All files and programs that users open from the share will be automatically available offline. Check box Optimized for performance. 3. Files or programs from the share will not be available offline I am using Option 1 right now, but wondered if it should be option 2. I am noticing the redirected Desktop is not putting things that are deleted into the users Recycle Bin and I am wondering if it is because of the share offline setting…

Strange Problem with Authentication Has anyone ever run across thi
by Guest David Lausten- 14 replies

I have 3 DC lets call them Main, Exchange and Util. Until recently everything has been working great. the strange issue is I can log into the domain just fine It maps all the drives except for one of the DC's which is Main. Main is the Infastructure Master and first DC. whenever it tries to map the drive on the server it asks for a username and password. this hapens on a couple of different computers on different accounts but not all. and it seems to roam. The permisions on the share are set to everyone Read Write etc. and the file security is the same. if I input my username and password it will connect but for some reason it is prompting me. Almos…

Xcopy not working in startup script
by Guest Slingshotz- 10 replies

This is driving me nuts and I have not been able to find any answers on any user group. This is a basic batch file script that I am deploying through group policy in the startup script to copy templates from the server to the local machine. I'm deploying it during the startup so that every computer gets it, regardless of who logs in. ========================= if NOT exist "C:\Templates" md "C:\Templates" pushd "\\servername\Templates\" xcopy *.dot C:\Templates /Y /D popd ========================= The script works perfectly when run by itself, but during the startup script when a computer starts up it keeps saying that *.dot is not found. =======…

Creating Group Policies in General
by Guest Jim in Cleveland- 2 replies

I was curious what the best practice is for creating a group policy. Is it better to combine a bunch of settings into one group policy or is it better to create a group policy for each particular setting that you want to implement? I know that latter might become overwhelming if you create dozens of GPs. But if you do it that way, couldn't you label the GP accordingly? What is the difference between Link order and Precedence? Regarding precedence order, I understand that the higher numbered GPOs are processed before the lower numbered ones are. With that being said, suppose GPO2 hides the control panel and GPO1 does not. If GPO2 is processed first, …

RE: Administrator Account (Local Policy)

RE: Administrator Account (Local Policy) Greetings all, I have an interesting problem, I cannot use the administrator (user) account to log on to my SBS 2003 R2 locally. I get an error that says local policy does not allow logon. This problem is with the user-administrator, not the group because other administrator accounts can logon on just fine. Can anyone shed a little light on how I can fix this so I can get back to using the 'administrator' account? Thanks for the help. -Lumpjaw

Connection reset by peer errors
by Guest dnigrin@gmail.com- 12 replies

I'm running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2. Around the time I applied the SP2 update, users of my website who needed to download large-ish (4MB - 12MB) files consistently started getting "Posix error, connection reset by peer" errors. Did something change in the SP2 update that would effect this? Regardless, does anyone have suggestions on what to do to fix it? Thx

backup tape ejects early
by Guest lenny- 15 replies

Hi, I am backing up to a 4mm Data Tape (72GB) using the SBS Backup program (with the Windows Backup program). I am trying to backup C, D and System State. I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that the System State has not backed up at all and it doesn't look like the D drive is being backed up correctly either. When I check the tape in the morning it has already been ejected but before this problem started it stayed in the drive. Below is a copy of the latest log. I notice that the media is not being found on the second part of the backup but why is it being ejected early? I have reset the backup schedule but this doesn't seem to make any differenc…

We currently have a two node, Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise cluster (32 bit) using shared SAN resources. Over the last several months we have occasionally been getting a situation where the active node slows down and becomes almost non-responsive. It doesn't quite stop, so the cluster failover doesn't automatically happen. We've set the registry key (I don't remember the KB article) that is supposed to cause the failover to happen when the higher level Windows functions stop, but we've one case since then where the failover didn't happen automatically. The event log entries seem to indicate a loss of system resources, so I'm suspecting a memory leak in…
