Network timeout able to be changed for XP clients?
by Guest markm75- 0 replies

Lets say you have a shortcut which points to an old document that was on an old server which doesnt exist... If you do certain things, like try to use the start menu.. it will sit there cranking for about 60 seconds or so. Is there somewhere in GPO either server or client that this "network timeout" value could be reduced? I'm not even sure what entry or option this would be... Anyone ever done this before? Thanks

Windows Server 2003 - I'm trying to find a way to determine when an account last logged in. I would have through I could have selected the account in question and selected properties and viewed that info there... perhaps on the Object tab, but no luck. Can I view this info or do I have to look through the event logs?

I've been contemplating moving our 2003 "backup services" off of a 7 year old box and onto another machine, to retire that one.. I was either going to move them to a primarily file server (with some VSS database usage, 2GB memory) or our "backup" server, by backup in this instance I am talking about our server which does harddisk backups each night and also does a duplicate to tape via the scsi port on this machine. (uses Symantec BackupExec, has 4gb memory). Our "backup-hdd server" is a dual xeon woodcrest cpu while the other file server is a PentiumD. Of the services which I had on the very old box include a "backup" DC (another DC), with global catalog…

White List for Internet Access
by Guest Steve Freides- 3 replies

I have a client that is considering moving from a Novell environment to a Windows-server environment. One of the concerns is that we have a product we're using on the Novell side that provides "white list" web access functionality - users can only visit approved site, and the sites are maintained in text files on the server. Access is by groups, e.g., group A can visit all the sites listed in texfileA.txt, group B can visit al the sites listed in textfileA plus those in textfileB, and so on. I'd appreciate knowing about products that offer this functionality in a Windows environment. The client currently has SBS-2003 but will probably get all new s…

ISA Server 2004 - Web Publishing Problem
by Guest Aaron- 4 replies

Hello, I have setup a Web Publishing Rule in ISA Server 2004 and seem to be experiencing a problem when attempting to connect from outside the network. The exact error, "Error Code: 500 Internal Server Error. The target principal name is incorrect. (-2146893022)." The rule has a path that accesses a virtual directory for IIS and uses SSL. Within the network everything seems to be working properly. Based on some troubleshooting, I believe the problem may have to do with the certificates. When I go to the Bridging tab under the Properties for the Rule there is a check box that indicates, "Use a certificate to authenticate to the SSL Web server." When I click …

Large amount memory allocated to WSPSRV.exe
by Guest Aaron- 0 replies
I am running a Windows Server 2003 Small Business Server with Service Pack 2 and have recently noticed that the wspsrv.exe process seems to require a large amount of memory. While there is approximately 495 MB of physical memory, there is 1.4GB of virtual memory used for this process. I have restarted the server multiple times but once started the memory usage returns to the same state. There are 4GB of ram installed on this server. Is this normal activity? For awhile, the server has been running somewhat slow and I am concerned that this may be part of the reason. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Aaron

Just upgraded from 1GB to 4GB on the Domain Controller. The motherboard sees all 4GB, on the System Memory check, only 3.3GB is seen and in the OS, only 3.58 is seen. BIOS or Windows problem? IIRC, there is a fix for it, I just can't seem to remember what or where it is.

by Guest Morgan Cheng- 0 replies

I have one Windows Server 2003 + IIS6 deploy-ed in a private network. The IP address is 192.168.3.206. The gateway 192.168.3.254 do health monitoring by try to connect 80 port of the server every 10 seconds. It turns out that server doesn't respond TCP ACK to incoming TCP SYN request. The Windows firewall is turned off, should be no other anti-attack software installed. What kind of problem this might be? Thanks,

Dot as domain name with TSE and Win 2003 Server
by Guest tnivon- 0 replies

Hi, I'm working on the gina, and I use LogonUser to log on users via smart cards. For the domain name, Windows API states this lpszDomain [in] A pointer to a null-terminated string that specifies the name of the domain or server whose account database contains the lpszUsername account. If this parameter is NULL, the user name must be specified in UPN format. If this parameter is ".", the function validates the account by using only the local account database. But when trying to do this, I have as result 'Invalid domain name format" If I let this field blank (not empty) I can connect. Is this "dot" fonctionnality a win 2003 issue Thanks for …

by Guest MSExchange2003Student- 9 replies

Hi all I have 3 three partitions on my exchange server. Exc2003 SP2 and Win Ser2003. The C drive was only made 11GB when the servers was setup but the D and E drive is 55GB and 200GB respectively. The freen space on C cramped from 3.41G to 2.59GB in 2 weeks time. How can i stop this as i heard terrible stories when C run out of disk space. The C\windows shows Size 7,13GB and Size on Disk 5,60GB (whats the difference?). Any way that i can get this folder smaller? Any way that i can take some of the space of the bigger drives and add it to the smaller one. They did build RAID 5 into the servers. Will this technology cater for this type of scenatio or m…

Since installing SP2 to Win2k3 Server, I cannot access Help & Support. The error message says the service is not running, and should be manually started. I have run services.msc and looked for a service named Help... but cannot find it, no services with this name (or similar) is listed. Any ideas?
