Hi All I hope I can find a solution to my problem on these news Groups. I decided recently to implement Exchange 2007 server into my domain. I have the following layout: - Single Active Directory Forest - FSMO roles are on current 64 Bit Server except Infrastructure Master is on 2003 32Bit machine. - DNS is still on 2000 Server and DHCP still on 2000 Server both Domain Controllers. Here is my problem, since I installed the 64 Bit Server I have been getting the following error every 5 minutes in the application log in event viewer: Userenv Event ID: 1054. Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. I have c…

Selective Security Wipe

Sorry for the dup post between groups, but thought I might try this one as well. Wondering if anyone has a suggestion for how to perform selective deletion of data from multiple servers and volumes, that will meet DOD erasure standards when completed? One of our clients is not using our services any longer and has requested all data pertaining to their business, be deleted from any and all servers. Obviously backups will need to be addressed, but there are over 40 servers with multiple volumes and MS SQL Server. I have found a few utilities that appear to do this (like DODlete and Eraser) but time and efficiency are a key component and I would like to aut…

Folder Inheritance and Rights Issue with Remote Users
by Guest amdgamer18@gmail.com- 4 replies

Hi, I am currently running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with SP2. I have a shared folder called FTP Files which is on the root of the C: drive. I have set the folder to be shared, and have added users and guests full control of the folder. I have also checked allow inheritable permissions on that folder. Therefore any newly created files or folders will get the permissions from FTP Files folder. This configuration works perfectly when I am locally on the server and create a folder or file. The permissions are set correctly. However, when I access the folder via another computer on my LAN (set as a mapped network drive) the permissions are not set whe…

benchmarks, perfmon, monitoring
by Guest SPiderman- 0 replies

Hi, What does everyone recommend for perfmon, benchmarks, db monitoring, and server alerting for down issues? I like sitescope but it isn't in the budget. I heard what's up gold is decent, but sitescope is much better. We have MOM now but it isn't giving us what we need/want and we want a product that will hit unix/linux as well. How about getting stats on servers that seem to start crawling a specific time of day? I can't tell if it is the server memory or the application? Some apps are oracle db's, some are sql db's? What is the best approach? Would a product like Sandra Software http://www.sisoftware.net/ help out?

Windows 2003/2000 overall performance monitoring/benchmarks, monit
by Guest SPiderman- 0 replies

Hi, What is everyone using to get stats on overall server performance, benchmarks, and server monitoring? I like SiteScope quite a bit but it isn't in the budget. The windows perfmon is Ok but just not great. I am trying to look at stats on some servers to figure out why some applications are running slow or should I say servers. We have some sql apps, oracle db based apps, citrix servers, and some others. I want to just find a decent app that will give me an idea of if the hardware is getting maxed out or if it is just the app slowing down, any idea, suggestions, web links, pointers, whatever you got, I will take it, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

3rd Request: ASR Backup Question
by Guest Bob Felton- 2 replies

Original Posting: 6/12/2007 2nd Request Posting: 6/25/07 Is it possible to exclude one or more folders (non-system use folders) of the system drive (c:) during an ASR backup? There is nothing in the GUI to allow doing this. Is there by chance a registry hack to allow it? Thanks. Additional with 2nd request posting: Or, is there some way to generate the ASR diskette without doing an actual ASR backup? Platform: Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. Thanks. -- Bob Felton

Forest: Windows 2003 functional level. I just installed Server 2008 beta 3 on a test server and it is a member of the domain. I would like to make it a DC but am told I would have to run Adprep/Forestprep. Is this safe yet? I know I should use a test environment but we do not have the resources for that. I have 12 DCs and two domains.

We have a domain using 2003 R2 servers (2) for DC's with other file servers and app servers for our faculty. These run on our intranet inside a firewall. We have two web servers running 2003 standard edition on our DMZ. Can we switch from having local accounts on each web server to using domain accounts? Both web servers have two ethernet ports. The web pages are written with asp and php. We want to give faculty the ability to edit their web pages from off campus. Thanks.
