Microsoft CA
by Guest topokin- 3 replies

We are having NT 4.0 Domain and need to introduce Microsoft CA. Actually only the Domain Controllers are still being NT, all other systems are W2k3, W2K, or XP. Is it possible or advisable to introduce a stand-alone "Microsoft CA" on one of the W2K3 member server, or it has to be on the NT Domain controller. Thanks,

Shutdown info and windows update info
by Guest Justin Rich- 0 replies

is there a way to easily pull this info from a group of servers? I would imagine there is some application out there that will do this for me? I would just like to be able to track how often the server is shutdown.. how long it is down.. and if the shutdown was for auto updates (I haven't looked but I assume when you hit the restart button from a windows update it logs this info for you) we are also looking in to a central monitoring system (system center, altiris) but from the research ive done so far I don't see these kind of reports. Thanks Justin

remote desktop for administration and offline file option
by Guest tree leafs- 1 reply

Hi, I heard that for a windows server 2003 the remote desktop for administration and offline file option are mutually exclusive. Does this mean for a file server that holds users home directories where offline file option is desirable we can't remotely logon to it for administrative purpose? Thanks in advance,

XP Sp2 Machine logging on to wrong DC
by Guest JasonCat- 4 replies

I have an XP sp2 machine that takes about 20 minutes to log on. I have a multi site enviornment. When this pc logs on, it is logging in to our DC in Canada, instead of the DC here in the main office. This is why I am assuming the logon takes so long, because its going over a slow 768k WAN link. This is the only PC with this problem. When I boot the pc in safe mode with network support, it logs on fine, and to the correct DC. How can I make it use the correct DC for logging on? DNS is correct, and it is getting the correct ip address. Removing the pc from the domain, and rejoining did not help.

Raid 5 repair in Windows Server 2003
by Guest nobodycares123@gmail.com- 1 reply

I hope I could find some help here. Thank you in advance. It's about a Raid-5 in Windows Server 2003 (fully updated) environment, software Raid on four SATA drives. One of the four drives in my Raid-5 array was not working and needed replacement. All four drives are identical Seagate 500Gb drives. In the Disk Management Console, Disk 4 was listed as "Missing" and the rest of the array is in "Failed Redundancy". Per Microsoft TechNet's instructions, I tried to "reactivate" multiple times and the drive was confirmed dead. So, yesterday I found the Serial number of the missing drive under Device Manager (by elimination, that is), and took out the old drive. …

System Won't Boot
by Guest Matthew White- 4 replies

Hi Everyone, I used Paragon Partition Manager to redistribute free space from my D: to my C: system partition. The drives were a dynamic set of 2 disks. Everything appeared to go along fine, but now the system won't boot. I am getting a stop error (stop 0x0000007b), which I believe to be that the system can't find the boot partition. When I boot into the recovery console, I can see all the data, so there is nothing wrong with the disks. How do I set the system straight so that it knows how to boot up? I am running a chkdsk now. The support group from Paragon does not open for another 8 hours, so I was hoping someone could help out. Regards, …

I suddenly "lost" the history of sent email, going back to Dec 2006. When I went to the problem log of my computer, I saw the following message: Catalog Database (1056) The version store for this instance (0) has reached its maximum size of 16Mb. It is likely that a long-running transaction is preventing cleanup of the version store and causing it to build up in size.
