Advice on Corporate Server Software and Direction
by Guest TheScullster- 2 replies

Hi all I am looking for advice from you good people with regard to software and strategy to be considered for a forthcoming IT upgrade. In the next few months it will be necessary to replace our file/print server (Win2K3) and email server (Win2K3 and Exch2003). The company comprises approx 50 users currently on XP clients. 10-15 of these are regular travellers who use OWA and Blackberry email for mobile communication. The intention is that we will move to the current flavour of Windows server software. My questions relate to additional software that the group might recommend for improved communication and data access, bearing in mind cost and ben…

Is there any reason that diskpar should *not* be used on Windows 2003 x64 servers? I did some testing of both diskpar and diskpart (updated for SP1) and get different results when creating a partition which requires alignment.

Hard Drive Partitions...
by Guest Steven Sinclair- 3 replies
Server 2003 Enterprise Edition 250GB SATA (NTFS) When my server arrived, the hard drive was partitioned into one 12GB partition (C:), where the OS and system apps reside, and one 230GB partition (D:), where the other apps and data resides. It's been a while now and, of course, I'm running out of room on the C: drive. Is there any way for me to re-partition the drive on the fly without having to reinstall the operating system, all of my apps, and my data? Thanx.

How To Get A Clean Computer Registry
by Guest jeremiah wright- 1 reply
If you are having problems with your computer, you may need a clean computer registry. What I mean, is you can fix many of the problems you are having in less than 10 minutes. Some of these problems are: the blue screen of death, your computer restarting, programs just freezing, or locking up, and even the entire computer stops working, and you have to hold in the power button for 5 seconds to shut it down. If you have experienced any of these, just follow this simple step to get a clean computer registry. The reason the registry files cause many of these problems is because they are so easily messed up. These files tell the computer how to operate and open your…

Packet/Traffic Analysis
by Guest Chris- 5 replies
Hello all, I'd like to monitor traffic flowing through my server 2003 server, and if possible be more specific i.e. something came in on Port 80 and was accessing http://www.domain.co.uk It's so I can see what traffic is more commonly seen, where it's going, etc and be able to display it in a nice graph, or chart, etc. also, would the same software be able to monitor an external NIC from a remote location to see what traffic is going through that as well as the server NIC? i.e. if I have a load balanced setup I'd like to see what is coming into the router as well as what is coming into each server. Does anyone know of anything? Thanks all Chris

Hyperterminal

Hyperterminal was removed from Vista and thus I assume from Server 2008. I have a firewall that needs to be setup using a null modem serial interface. I know there is a Hyperterminal download on the internet that will probably do the job. Is there any included software in Server 2008 that will interface to the server port and let me set up the firewall?

Dessous Erotic Lingerie Shop http://dessouserotic.com

Hi, I have a Windows 2000 server that I want to upgrade the hard disk from IDE to SATA. I used ghost to transfer the content from the IDE disk to the SATA. The server is bootable after the ghosting (on the SATA drive). However, as soon as I upgraded the basic disk to dynamic disk, it said any OS that is previous installed on this disk will not be bootable. Of course, the disk was not boot able after the upgrade. I have done this before but I don't know why it didn't work this time. Do anyone has suggestion on this? Thanks

Strange group scope / permissions issue
by Guest SF- 3 replies

Hello All, Currently on our domain it seems we are unable to add built-in domain local groups to the ACL any folders on the network. When you try to view groups from the "builtin" container in AD they do not show up as available. For example: If we want to add the built-in domain local group "Backup Operators", to the ACL of a folder it cannot be seen by the machine, no mater which location you have selected. You can point it directly at the container and still it does not want to find any built-in group. This is a domain wide issue affecting all machines that I have tested. The domain functional level is Windows 2000 native and the servers are mostly…
