Run As
by Guest Diane Walker- 3 replies

We just installed Admin tools for Windows 2003 server on Windows Vista Business computer. In Windows XP, you can hold down the SHIFT key and right mouse button on Active Directory for Users and Computers and then select Run As. Then, the pop-up window is displayed so you can put in the user name and password. However, in Windows Vista, when I hold down the SHIFT key and the right mouse button and select Run As, it opens Active Directory for Users and Computers. Am I not doing something correctly? Is there a way to run Active Directory for Users and Computers under a different user like Windows XP? Thanks.

Samsung ML 3050 SBS 2003 12 Win XP users Installed the printer and now getting this random error and have had no luck with a soloution and need one. When the error pops up the printer will not print untill it's cleared. Not with only one type of document, very random in nature. Old drivers removed, old printer removed, system booted, new drivers installed and reinstalled. Any folder related to the printer or software has been completely opened so no security to see if that helps and nothing. Any thoughts would be great, thanks! We have a user to whom we have granted Full Control permissions to a folder and its subfolders on a Windows 2003 SP1 file server; we have also verified that there are no explicit or implicit Deny permissions in place on the folder in question. The problem is that this user is unable to change permissions to any of these folders, even though his Effective Permissions say that he can. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but can someone help me figure this out, please? Thanks in advance,

Renaming Server losing Shares
by Guest Kyle Smith- 2 replies

Hi, I'm in the midle of a server migration. I have an old fileserver (server1) and the new server (server1-new). I have migrated the data to the new server and am waiting to move the shares until I get some clarity. I'm using secure copy to move the shares to the new server. Once that is done I will rename the old server to "server1-old) and rename the new server to "server1" and give it the same IP address of the old server. My question is that If I rename both servers will I lose the share that have been configured? Thanks

Moving our Enterprise CA to a new Server
by Guest Sandy Wood- 2 replies

We'd like to move our Enterprise CA to a new server. Reading through kb article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/298138, I noticed it states, in step 5 for Windows 2003: "Rename the old server, or permanently disconnect it from the network." What are the ramification if we don't rename it? Are there hooks into AD that will get into trouble if we don't? -- Sandy Wood Orange County District Attorney

Move Enterprise CA to New Server
by Guest PMC1- 2 replies

Hi, I have a Windows 2000 Enterprise CA on an old server that I want to retire. This server is too old to install Windows 2003 so I can't directly follow the process suggeested by Microsoft to move a CA to another server. My question is: If I were to install a new CA on a new server and gradually retired the old server would this have any effect on the domain during this transition period. The network is relatively simple - 2 x 2003 DC's 30 clients, only manually configured certificate is that used by OWA (So I would recreate this on the new CA) Any advise appreciated Paul

Roaming profiles accross different domains
by Guest nemmens- 4 replies

Hi, Please help me to understand a problem I have. We have two domains and two separate physical sites. We have a lease line between the two. The two domains have a trust relationship setup. For Domain N, the profile shares are located at site N and they can roam form various PC's. All the PC's are members of domain N. So, a user is based in Domain N and wants to logon in the other office (office L) where the PC's are members of domain L but have logon to domain N as an option. The user enters his credentials and selects domain N from the list and logs on. He then gets "unable to load profile, network path not found" He cannot access his …

drive properties - tools tab - 'check now'
by Guest James- 4 replies

1. does this run chkdsk.exe or scandisk.exe? 2. I ran this with only option 'scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' selected, after a very long time it said it was done but gave no other information as to problems encountered if any, or that everything was ok... is there a log file somewhere I should check? I googled this and found info about results going to the application log in event viewer but that log showed nothing for me (no entries at all for this whole day so far, which I find odd, maybe there is another issue here)?

2003 - recognizing plug-in USB devices a la XP ?
by Guest +Bob+- 4 replies
I'd like to be able to load photos from cameras & such directly on to my win2003 (Enterprise) server. However, while it recognizes the devices properly at plug in (and loads drivers), they don't appear in the Windows Explorer for drag-n-drop use. Is there someway to get them to appear without loading device specific software? In XP, it works just fine, but 2003 seems to be acting more like win2000, where you had to load the manufacturer's software to access the device. I don't need XP's hand holding, I just want a raw drive to drag-n-drop to. I prefer to keep the server very clean and do not want to load application software on it if there is any way to a…

Dell 2850 and Windows Server 2008
by Guest javamick- 4 replies

I was told that a Dell 2850 cannot support Windows Server 2008. Is there any truth to that? This is the exact quote: "The 2850 was developed 1-2 years before Win2K8 was released. Therefore drive support is not available in this generation of server. The only Win2K8 server supporting this are the new 2950 MK3 servers" Thanks, Mick

Upgrade printer server role
by Guest Warddawson@gmail.com- 0 replies
I have several 2003 R2 servers, I have been able to upgrade the print server role on all but one of them. When I hit the link to upgrade the role, windows goes through it paces and loads the components and then I am back to the server management screen. with no change. I have rebooted, with no change as well. I have tried to run the print management mmc and that will not launch. The other were successful and I was able to deploy printers fine (Yes I have updated the schema). Any ideas on why this one server is being stubborn? Thanks Ward

Intermittent Network Pauses
by Guest Intermittent Network Pauses- 13 replies

Hi There, We have a HP Class-C Chassis with 4 Blade servers, all running windows server 2003. Two of these servers are clustered in Active Passive mode. This cluster is connected to HP EVA3000 SAN array and the network interface of the cluster connects to Cisco 3750 stack. For the past number of months we have been having issues where the clients, running windows XP lose their network drives and after a pause of approx 10-15 seconds reconnect and in many cases a reboot of the workstation is required. We have performed a number of test to isolate the root casue of the issue. The network was fully checked and ruled out as the casue. Packet capture did …

are there any builtin options to accomplish this with A. Windows Server 2003 and B. Windows Server 2008? Looking to have one central repository of image files (.wim's) and other files such as ISO's be maintained at one site on a file share and have the file share be replicated/synchronized to about 6 other sites. What options are already available within the OS? (FRS?) Binary deltas supported? if none already builtin does anyone have any good recommendations for a third party package? The files I need replicated/synchronized are mostly large files from 600MB - 8GB in size.

Drive Mapping Problem w/ Users Home Folders...
by Guest Jason Lehman WC- 9 replies
In AD I have... Home Folder, connect to... U: to \\servername\Users$\username Note the $ after Users to indicate the share is hidden. Some random users get a U:\Users$ Instead of getting U:\Users$\UserName No idea why this is going on. What I inherrited here was the Sys Admin w/ sharing every single users home folder, creating too many shares. So the Home Folder used to read... Home Folder, connect to... U: to \\servername\username$ So I decided to share the Users dir, instead of every single users home folder. Anyone have some suggestions/experience for my problem? Your help is much appreciated. Thanks. Jason.

Re: MRxSMB : Delayed Write Failed (ID 50)

Re: MRxSMB : Delayed Write Failed (ID 50) Hi, I have been experiencing a similar problem with a Windows 2003 Server which also is at Service Pack1. It was trying to backup to a NAS drive. It was always crashing out about 1.1Gb in. I had read that a network switch change could fix it so I gave that ago. However that didn't work for me. Neither did enforcing QoS and giving the server and the NAS drive Highest priority. I did a lot of searching and none of the suggested fixes worked. This included a small update KB??. It responded with "you have this installed" I resulted to taking a Ghost image of the server and then trying Service Pack 2 for Windows…
