How to hide the Log Off button?
by Guest yaro137@googlemail.com- 4 replies

We have a server that needs to run with the administrator account logged in at all time because of some third-party software. For that reason I would like to get rid of the Log Off button. I tried adjusting the group policy for the server but it didn's work. Is there any other way, maybe some registry edit? Thanks yaro

How to move user profile from one domain to another
by Guest Mike- 5 replies

Hi Is it possible to move user profile from one domain to another? Our company users have WindowsXP workstations joined into Win2000 domain. Since we're in a plan of impelemnting new Win2008 domain environment (new DC servers with new user/computer accounts) I'm wondering what is the simpliest way to re-join computer from old domain to a new one so that users will still have their profiles. Yes I know we can simply put computer out of a domain and join them to a new one and log-on with a new user account, but then we need to move all settings and data from old user profile to a new one. Can this be done more automatically? Thank you in advance. Regards…

Server 2008 Drivers
by Guest Geoff Schaller- 0 replies

Has anyone had trouble with 64 bit drivers for ASUS or other motherboards for Server 2008? We are suffering disk controller errors (which show up as such in the event log) and then system freezes. We are using Quad Core CPUs with 8GB+ RAM and so we've had to use ASUS boards when normally, they wouldn't have been our first choice. Usually too flaky. The drives are just regular 10,000 RPM Sata drives but it also happens to 7200 RPM Seagates. What successful motherboard/CPU configurations are other folks using in 64 bit scenarios? Thanks, Geoff Schaller Software Objectives

Remote Desktop Issue
by Guest pvong- 4 replies

I have an application that I run on my desktop where it points to a Win2003 server. All the files for the application is sitting on the server. Everything works great. For some reason, when I remote desktop into my computer, I can not run this applications. I can run all the other applications thats residing on this server but not this one. The error message I'm getting is attached. The shared UNC for the server location has the proper permission set up so I can have access to the folder. Like I said, it works all other times except during Remote Desktop. Can someone give me some ideas on how I might fix this?

Our current IT policy is to name servers using lower case. It used to be UPPER CASE. Our SAP team wants their new servers to be re-named using UPPER CASE. The name wil be the same, only the case will change. Can this be done and are there any other ramifications of doing this? TIA, Seymour

Using Windows Server Standard 2007 SP1. How can I PERMANENTLY map an FTP drive to a drive letter? I tried doing a Map Network Drive, but when I put ftp://ftp.myserver.com in the 'folder' it tells me that "Windows cannot access xxxxx". I am able to click on the "Connect to a web stie that you can use to store your documents and pictures." That will enable me to put in the ftp login info and see the files. BUT, I can't seem to map that connection to a drive letter. Can you help please???

%date% returns different values for login script.
by Guest TimParker- 6 replies

I have what I thought would be a simple project that is stumping me at the moment. I was asked to create a simple login/out file to log when a user signs in and out of a machine. I set up the script shown here: echo %COMPUTERNAME%, %USERNAME%, %date%, %TIME%, Login >> \ \mopssrv01\MISData\MOPS-LOGONS.csv Simple one line bat file that I put in as a Login Script through GP. I have another one for Logout with just the word change at the end to tell me what they were doing. This is the output that I get in my CSV. Note the first and last one has the MON as part of the date. I have looked around and must be totally blind as I dont' see where I can change …

I am running the MAP Solution Accelerator to baseline a number of Server 2003 machines in terms of running them as VM's using Hyper-V on Server 2008. There is a rather intrusive status window having a cancel button showing the status. It is not minimizable. It appears that if I hit the cancel button, the assessment and logging stops altogether. Is that true? Since I plan on running this assessment for several weeks, isn't there a way to run this as a service so it persists between logon/logoff and server reboot cycles?

Some questions about batch files….. So, I have a batch file called batch1.bat. Within that batch file, I have 5 commands that kick off different reports from our ERP app.. I would like to be able to tell the batch file this: If it is 2am on Monday, kick off report 1, but don’t touch the others. If it is 3 am on Tuesday, kick off report 2, but don’t touch the others. If this is possible, how would i script this out?
