Domain time - clients not synching with DC
by Guest EdRoche- 6 replies

For some reason the clients in our domain are not synching the time with the domain controller - I presume should be default behaviour. They are out but only a few minutes but it is v annoying and sometimes causes people not to get their mapped drives. I would put a net time line into the login script but as most users are not admins on the local PCs they dont have access to change time under their account. The client firewalls are on and I included a port exception for 123 UDP. Should the clients update their time automatically with the DC automatically? Can someone explain a simple and straight forward solution? Thanks

DNS-Split horizon

couple of things: Windows server 2000 NIC tcp/ip protocol is assigned 4 different ip addresses? DHCP reserves these so as not to get assigned to clients I didn't set this up I can't really assign a host record (WWW) for the website: http://www.company.com because when i ping http://www.company.com OUTSIDE of the domain I just get the ip of the name server that's hosting the website. typing that ip address in an address bar resolves to a completly different website. I did assign a delegation to www that points to the nameserver. I tested by pinging http://www.company.com and it resolved the ip address of the name server. I pulled up http://www.com…

Event ID's 35 and 40 WMI errors (Windows Server 2003 R2)
by Guest Mike in Nebraska- 3 replies

I am trying to install MOSS 2007 on a newly installed Windows Server 2003 R2 (I installed a fresh copy of the OS this morning and it is fully patched as of this afternoon.) I had several errors and then tried "winmgmt /clearadap" from a command line to correct them and got these event ID's (35 & 40). Did a google search and found a blog entry: http://blogs.msdn.com.carloc/archive/2008/06/04/wmi-warnings-35-and-40-with-asp-net.aspx where it mentions that it is fixed with .NET 3.5 SP1 (which isn't out yet), but that you can request an unpublished hotfix (#951683) from CSS. I searched the MS site, but can't find a 'free' way to ask them for this hotf…

Using .ThinPrint to print to a Windows 2003 server using RDP
by Guest BeckyBoo123- 1 reply

Hello! I have several HP T5530 thin clients, running Windows CE 5.0 which came preloaded with Thin Print. After reading documentation from HP I have attempted to configure the Thin Print service on the thin client to enable printing for applications running on a Windows 2003 server, via a RDP connection to the server. In the ThinPrint options I have manually added the TCP/IP details of the printer and it accepted them with no issues. However, when I am in the RDP connection and select print, no printers are listed. Is my server missing some software to pick up the ThinPrint settings on the thin client? I have also made sure that the RDP connection i…

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem with Dell and they sent me to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CEBF3C7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0 which has the MPS Report downloads. Only problem is they don't seem to fully or at all work on Server 2008. Is there a new version somewhere?

Need an image resizer tool for Windows 2003
by Guest Gonzo- 0 replies

Hi, I need to easily resize 1000's of images on our file server. The best tool I have found for this is the WinXP image resizer tool, but it can't be installed on 2003. I have just been mapping a drive to the server on my XP PC and doing this, but it means I can't use my PC while I do this as it uses all the CPU and memory. Is there a simple tool for 2003?

by Guest Jeremy Schubert- 1 reply

I have a backup script that I'm gooing to run through task scheduler. I can use TS to run the Mon backup script every Monday and the Tuesday....etc. But I also have another task that runs a seperate backup at the end of each month. So, can I easily program the Monday task, for example, to run all Mondays except a specific Monday that turns out to be the last day of the month? Or am I going to have to spend a little cash? Thanks, Jeremy

If a user logged off from Windows Server 2003 (or the other Windows OS), to which (area, i mean session?,applications?,etc) is the "logoff event" sent? I first thought it might send to the processes that the user executed. But, a process which was created by a windows service recived the logoff event. I want to know the exact range to which the "logoff event" send. If you have any infomation, please let me know. like the web page, or book recommendation will be very helpful too. Thank you.

Does Backup 2008 format the destination HD.
by Guest ThomasAJ- 1 reply

I was about to start the backup when I noticed there was no provision to enter a backup name. I looked at the HELP and read "On the Confirmation page, review the details, and then click Backup. The wizard prepares the backup set, FORMATS the optical or removable media (if that is what you are using), and then creates the backup." Strike me pink - I had other backups on that USB HD. Can someone confirm (oe deny) that backup 'takes over' the entire destrination HD. -- Regards Tom
