I see we can buy Standard OR Enterprise versions. In each version can we choose to install as a 32bit or 64bit installation? In other words both Standard and Enterprise versions contain BOTH 32bit and 64bit installations?

roaming profile won't delete
by Guest KearneyB- 7 replies
I'm having a problem with a network logon searching for a roaming profile even though the roaming profile path has been deleted from the user's properties on the server. Problem began when my PDC hard drive crashed and I wound up having to reformat and rebuilt a new PDC server from scratch, though the roaming profiles were stored on another drive that was not lost. However, in the new AD, I did not recreate the roaming profile path, but when the user logs on to the network, he's told his roaming profile cannot be fround. I went into the work station and checked the USER and deleted the RP path, but the problem persists. It also happens when I try to…

WSUS Server Replacement
by Guest RayRogers- 2 replies
Currently I have WSUS 2.0 server. We use AD group policies to have different OU point to this server for updates. I am working on replacing it with new server and install WSUS 3.0 instead. Should I just do refresh install? I have computer groups on exising old server? Is there a way to carry these settings (including the updates downloaded on existing server) over to new server with WSUS 3.0? Any suggestion on proper way to do this? Thanks!

Dear all, I have 2 questions about group policy: 1. Are there any policy or method to prevent access only part of folder in C drive but not the whole C drive. 2. How to block some specific websites through server 2003 by using group policy? I have already listed the websites that I want to block in server by using policy console. However, the policy seems not deploy to client. Thx for help!! Matthew

Programs to Backup DHCP, Active Directory, Registry, Etc
by Guest Will- 1 reply

Aside from doing a full system state backup, does anyone know of a program that would maintain a full set of Daily / Weekly / Monthly backups the Windows DHCP, Active Directory, and Registry? I realize it is not brain surgery to write it yourself, but I would value having some high quality commercial software for such an undertaking as well, mainly for error checking and notifications about failures to backup files. -- Will

Can someone please assist to help me achieve this? I have a folder structure similar to this -\Shared\Data1\Data2 I have 2 groups of people Everybody Admins I need to achieve the following permissions to these folders for these groups Data1 - Everybody=R; Admins=C Data2 - Everybody=C; Admins=C Now, I can easily achieve rights for Everybody by granting 'C' permissions to 'Share' for the 'Everyone' group; assigning 'R' perms to 'Data1' for 'Everyone and 'C' perms to 'Data2'. And for Admins, I have granted 'C' perms to the 'Share' for the 'Admins' group; assigned 'C' perms to both 'Data1' and 'Data2' for 'Admins'. Testing shows that the permissions for…

Extending a partition with unallocated space...
by Guest newsqlman- 2 replies

Hello, I can't remember how the heck I did this with a new drive last spring. I have a Dell PowerEdge server with a raid 5 configuration. I added a new drive to the raid 5 and ran Dell's reconfiguration so now it shows up under Disk Management as 70GB of unallocated space. I have a few partitions the C drive which is my OS partition and then a D drive which is my data partition and the one I want to extend. When I run the diskpart command it shows Disk 0 with 500GB and 70GB free. When I select that Disk and run show partitions it lists the following: Partition 1 OEM Partition 2 Primary 12gb 78mb Partition 3 Ext…

expanding system partition
by Guest runner7@fastmail.fm- 7 replies

In searching newgroups for ways to copy a Windows Server 2003 system partition to a new, larger partition, I keep seeing xcopy recommended, but other sources say this is unreliable due to long-vs-short file name issues. Since I would not trust anything as controversial as xcopy, this post is to ask if anyone who really knows about this issue could pass on to us a reliable and inexpensive way of getting the system partition on a larger partition. In particular, are there any settings, such as in the registry, that need to be changed when the system finds itself on a new, larger partition? Thanks very much for any help on this issue.

Hi - I have a load of old backup tapes that I need to get the data from as quick and easily as possible. What's the best software for this? Just plain and simple data retrieval?? I have a good budget I can use if needed. Also I think one or two tapes might be corrupt too, so if it could handle then that would be great! Thanks Paul

Hyper-V Update on Windows Web Server 2008?
by Guest Wojciech Kowasz- 1 reply
Hello, I'm wondering if anyone tried to install Hyper-V Release Update (KB950050) on Windows Web Server 2008 x64? It has shown up recently in my Windows Update as a recommended download, but as far as I know, Web Server is not licensed to have Hyper-V role installed. I would go for it providing it is some kind of management tools only - I don't want a full Hyper-V on my web server as it would mess it up... Could someone please help me? What exactly will be installed after KB950050 on Web Server x64? Is it safe to install in this scenario? Thanks in advance, Best regards, Wojciech Kowasz

File and Folder Permissions
by Guest Brandon- 2 replies

Hi, Running Windows Server 2003 SP2. Have problem with users saving files to a network share. When they click save as in Excel, it says that the file already exists (which it does not) then says that the folder is marked as read only (again, which it is not). The file is created with a 0Kb size. Share permissions are set to full control, and folder permissions are as follows: read, write and execute. I tried using notepad to do the same thing, and works like a charm, even though it also says that the file already exests, but allows you to save the file with the data in it. What am I missing here? Thank you!

2008 Terminal Server Licensing
by Guest Chris- 1 reply
I am bringing up my first 2008 terminal server. When I install terminal services it says that I need to connect to my license server. My 2003 License server is a Win 2003 Domain Controller. All my Terminal Services CALS were purchased with Software Assurance, so they will not need to be replaced with 2008. Will my 2008 Terminal server, recognize these Terminal Servers CALS on this License server? Will I need to install a 2008 License server? Will I need to contact Microsoft to get the MTS CALs installed on the 2008 license server (If one is needed)? Is there anything else that it sounds like I am missing? Thanks Chris -- ccoates

Domain login errors
by Guest Tom- 9 replies

Hello, We recently installed a new Windows 2003 server; set it up as an additional domain controller; transferred the FSMO roles from our existing Windows 2000 DC server; demoted our old server and removed it from the network. We have approxiametly 200 clients that login to our network. 25% Vista Business and 75% XP Pro. Since the change over we are getting "The system cannot login because the domain (example) is not available.". We don't get the message on all of the clients, only on about 25 machines. I've disjoined and rejoined them to the domain with no problems. The Vista machines work with no problems, we've only seen the problem on XP. If I …

Exchange 2003 into an existing 2000 network

Hi peeps, I will be installing a new exchange server into a 2000 domain which already has an exchange (2000) server in. I've found this migration document on the internet http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Migrating-Exchange2000-Exchange-2003-Hardware.html but my query is doing the adprep on the existing domain controller (2000 server) is that going to cause and future problems or will it be ok in the log run.
