SNMP Security - Where is it?
by Guest Paul Bergson [MVP-DS]- 1 reply

Ok, I'm signed on as admin, I have been elevated as admin (Run as Administrator) on the services console. So when I select SNMP Trap there is no security tab. I have been here before but unfortunately I can't recall the route and the birds ate my bread crumbs. Anyone recall the way to get the security tab to show up? -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

I have a customer (running Windows 2003 SP2) that is attempting to enable email alerts with Double-Take, and the following event is generated by WinMgmt when doing so: Event Type: Error Event Source: WinMgmt Event ID: 10 Description: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceCreationEvent WHERE TargetInstance ISA 'Win32_NTLogEvent' AND (TargetInstance.SourceName = 'Double-Take' OR TargetInstance.SourceName = 'dblhook' OR TargetInstance.SourceName = 'NSIPH' OR TargetInstance.SourceName = 'ExchFailover') AND (TargetInstance.EventType = '1' OR TargetInstance.EventType = '2')" could not be (re)activated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of …

Where did my memory go?
by Guest jacintoj@gmail.com- 1 reply

We have a server running Windows Server 2003 Std Ed 64-bit w/ 4GB of RAM. Last night, I ran a batch file that would clear up files in a folder that were older than 1 year using the forfiles command. Earlier this morning, we got an alert from our monitoring app saying memory was low. Out of the 4GB of physical memory only 70MB were remaining. The batch file was still running so I killed it but now the amount of free physical RAM is staying well below 100MB when normally it would hover around the 2.0GB range. Is there anyway for me to see what exactly is hogging up my memory. Task Manager numbers for the processes do not add up. Please help

Domain Controller Certificates

Hi All, Posting in both SBS and general server as this applies to both. I've a transition-packed SBS 2003 server, and I need to understand the different types of certificates involved in Domain usage. For example, yesterday I setup a linux server that makes LDAPS requests to our SBS server for authentication, all worked fine. Today its failing, and when I examined the LDAPS traffic I can see it believes the certificate has expired. Checking the certificate identified, I find it actually has, on the 7 Aug 08. The certificate in question is based on the Domain Controller (DomainController) template in the SBS CA. Theres a three of those certificat…

Unable to create basic domain trust between two Windows 2003 domains - logon servers not available ?

Unable to create basic domain trust between two Windows 2003 domains - logon servers not available ? Hi. I am currently trying to create a basic one way non-transitive trust between two Windows 2003 domains. We will be merging the domains of two companies in the future but for the time being need to give one domain access to resources in another. Both domains are standalone within their own forest i.e. domain1.net is the only domain in the domain1.net forest and domain2.net is the same. Both domain1 and domain2 have Windows Server 2003 domain and forest functional levels. So far I have created Stub zones on the DNS servers in each domain i.e. domai…

Corrupt file names
by Guest yaro137@googlemail.com- 0 replies

I noticed that I have a large number of files with corrupted names on one of our servers. Most of them have dots underneath some letters in file names. If the dot is below the last letter I can just put the prompt at the end of the file name and hit backspace once which removes the dot but not the last letter fixing the file name in this way. Any idea what might have caused that problem? We have a mixed Windows MacOS environment so I also wandering whether that's not the source of the problem. Thanks for any help. yAro

xcopy question
by Guest KDawg44- 2 replies

Hi, I have a server that a bunch of people access. They have read access to a folder. I have another server that a small group accesses and stores image files on. I have a batch file that uses xcopy to copy the files up to the first server once a week. My question is: is there a switch so that xcopy only copies the files that have changed? or does it do this by default? Thanks. Kevin

I am using wbadmin to backup my Windows Server 2008 server using a scheduled task. Everything works great as far as the backup is concerned. I want to have the server attach the log file and email it to me when the backup is completed. Where is the backup log file? I can’t find it anywhere and I cannot find the answer on the net. So my question is, where is the backup log file? Thanks

Security policies for services in Win2003
by Guest Saga- 0 replies

Hi all, Yesterday I posted a question regarding a problem I have. I have an app that I am attempting to run as a service using srvany on a Win2003 PC with SP1. The service seems to start, but the app is no where to be seen. Through help from another group I also tried it with nssm with the same results. I now suspect that the app is not running as a service due to some security policy. Where can I look at this to find out for sure? Is there any documentation that I can read to delve deeper into this subject? Thanks! Saga --

Print Migrator
by Guest blankmonkey- 8 replies

Is there any support for this? I am trying to use version 3.1, and it is failing, I suspect it is because the cab file gets to large (I have over 300 printers). I know because after the cab is created, I can't mauanlly extract some files, while I can others. Not sure where to bring this up, in case there is a fix, or a feature for 3.2 Since it is not working, does anyone know how to backup or migrate printers? manually??
