Hello, I have shared Windows 2003 server solution for a couple of small companys located in the same building. And we own a Ricoh MFP and need something that can register and bill the customers when they print to it. It needs to be something that runs only on the server side and uses AD username for accounting. I need to register: A4 or A3, Duplex or non duplex, Color or B/W. Anyone got a clue on a product that can do the things above? I have been a trip on google but cant seem to find anything that complies with all the things above. Regards, Dennis

Best way to replace a server and do clean install
by Guest Jack B. Pollack- 8 replies

We will be replacing our old Win2K3 Server with a new one shortly. Not only is the actual hardware antiquated, but the OS has been experiencing many problems over the last year and I look forward to a clean install. Since I am doing a clean install instead of some type of migration all of the users will have to be manually re-added to the domain. There are only 14 users so this is not a terrible task. My concern is that when I try to add the old user to the new domain it will create a new user account for them on their local machines and that all of their personal settings and desktop etc will be "lost". Am I making this into a bigger project then it really…

folder permission question
by Guest Jim Graue- 4 replies
Hi, All: I'm having trouble remembering the way to set permissions on a folder so all can get to their respective subfolders and files, but no one can traverse into others' subfolders and/or files. I'd like to do this without explicitly adding each user with "full control" on a particular subfolder. Any help is greatly appreciated. -- Best regards, Jim Graue

Blank screen after Windows 2003 splash screen
by Guest Kevin Haney- 1 reply

I went to reboot a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server and upon the reboot and Windows 2003 Splash screen it went blank and never came back. I have not updated anything on the server. I found that if I go into F8 services and use the last known good it sometimes comes back. The only thing updated on the server was applications, such as COM+ packages. Has anyone seen this before? If no OS patches have been installed, or system changes what would be causing this? Kevin

New site setup - Windows 2003 AD domain
by Guest Davidi- 1 reply
Our firm is planning to open a branch office soon and we are interested in creating a new site within our current domain. We have very simple setup- one Windows 2003 domain within the default site. The plan is to set up a new site, site link, etc. in AD Sites and Services, install a domain controller in our current site, and then ship it down to the branch office and add it to the new subnet. All of our resources (Exchange, printers, file servers, etc) will still reside in our main headquarters and we're planning use Riverbed for WAN optimization. Our domain controller in the remote site which will be used to authenticate users, for DNS, and for DHCP…

Hello All, Currently in our domain we have a share on out 2003 server called workgroup. Each department has their own folder within that share. Within each dept folder there is a public folder and a private folder. The public folder is readable to the entire organization and writable by the dept members. The private is accessible to only to dept members. Example: \\server\workgroup\accounting -> Domain Users -> read. \\server\workgroup\accounting\public -> Domain Users ->read. Accounting Group -> Modify. \\server\workgroup\accounting\private -> Domain Users ->No perms. Accounting Group -> Modify. All folders are owned/created b…

How to set up two info email accounts (also posted inmicrosoft.public.inetserver.iis)
by Guest petethebloke@googlemail.com- 0 replies
- 219 views
Posted this in microsoft.public.inetserver.iis but no one responded. I have a box with Server 2003 and IIS How do I set up info at domain.com and then info at otherdomain.com please? I can't seem to find anywhere in the user profile (user->info- >properties) that shows an email address and that's what I get in SBS. Second question (in case the first was too easy) why do bounced mails for name at otherdomain.com go to fred at domain.com? It's a bit embarrassing for me when one of my customers is getting another customer's bouncers. Third question (in case you're still reading): I'm more used to LINUX servers and use Webmin. Is there a windows equ…

You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer
by Guest altior- 4 replies

Hi We a Windows 2003 sp1 server which is a TS server and a backup dc. When a user logs in they get the default printers that are loaded through the group policy fine. If they want to add a network printer it gives this error "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer". I read these solution from Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259937/en-us but there are no local policies on a DC and it even says in the article I shouldn't get this error but I am. I have checked the printer permissions and nothing unusual there. If the user logs in from their normal pc they can add/remove so it doesn't seem to be anything i…

Strange error message
by Guest Jim in Cleveland- 2 replies

We are running a Windows 2003 domain. We have two Windows 2003 server as our domain controllers. While looking at some group policies, the following message came up on the backup up DC: "The XXXX.org forest could not be loaded and will be removed. The error message was: The server is not operational." There is an OK button attached to this message. We're afraid that if we click OK, something destructive is going to happen. But the OK button is the only option presented. Can someone tell me what this error message means and will something destructive happen to our domain if we try to click out of this? Jim

Share Permissions on 2000 and 2003
by Guest Broonie- 0 replies
I have a file (a Crystal report) in a share that I want to access from an app installed on computers that are on a different domain from the server on which the share exists. There is no trust set up between the two domains. Previously this file was held on a Windows 2000 server and I had no problems accessing it. Now the file is located on a Windows 2003 server and I can no longer access it. The share permissions are the same on the new server as they were on the old one and I realise that the Everyone token is no longer handed out to anonymous logons anymore by default in 2003 so I enabled the default domain controller policy setting to allow everyone permiss…

intermittent dfs drive mapping issues
by Guest Jay man- 3 replies

We have intermittent issues with users mapping a drive to a dfs share. Drive mappings happen through a login script. Drive mappings to other servers work fine. Symptoms: 1.A "system error 3 has occurred" error appears when running the login script or trying to map the drive manually through DOS using net use n: \\domain\share\folder 2.When trying to map through explorer, a system error occurs. 3.Yet when you browse to the share from run you can view the contents and only then are you able to map the drive to \\domain\share\folder The above happens irrespective of whether just the domain name is used or the FQDN is used. Client workstations having…

OS almost freezes while copying files to USB harddrive
by Guest David Bala¾ic- 16 replies

Hi! I noticed this strange phenomena while copying files to an external USB harddrive. When I copy (using the explorer) a directory containing about 20 5-10 MB big files and 20 about 2GB big files from my internal sata drive to the external usb drives, then this pattern emerges: - the external HD is busy all the time (its LED blinks) - the internal HD LED is : - off for 40 seconds - then half on for 10 seconds (blinks fast, giving the impression of half light intensity, compard to full on) - fully on for 25 seconds This then cycles, until the copy is finished. During the 25 seconds when the internal HD is constantly lit, the system is almost…

Hi everyone Just a question - how easy would you say is it to buy the MCSE set of books, self study it, ask friends and in forums what you dont know; and go write the exams WITHOUT registering at a educational organization. ....or would you advise to do it through a college, technickon, etc? Obviously you need to have done the coarse to answer the question
