Server 2003 R2 SP1 wacked after updates. Should I restore systemstate?

HI. I have a server 2003 R2 standalone DC with SP1 that we installed updates onto last night (about 25 updates). Now it seems to have some kind of problem with serving files. I have already gone into the Windows folder and one by one in proper order used "spuninst.exe" to remove each update. Didn't reboot between the uninstalls. Maybe I should have. Question:Should I restore the system state from the time before the updates were installed? I have a USB hard drive (actually two) with system state backups. I sure hope USB is supported during system state restores. Do I need to use Active Directory restore mode for this? Here is more info that led me to b…

Roaming profile

I have a user that has a "roaming profile" which he can basically go to any computer and log in. Works great! issue is that the icons on his desktop he can't move around. I have tried making sure his settings are not to put them in date order, snap to grid or anything like that and the settings dont stay. They change back to the grid layout. How can I fix this?

I'm having a problem installing HP printer driver on a TS to which I'm connecting remotely. Basically when I start the .exe driver file downloaded from HP's website it tells me that I have to use 16bit colour display to run this driver. Why on earth do I need 16bit colour depth to install a bloody driver in the first place?! Anyway, I set up my remote desktop connection to use 16bit colour space just to find out that when I'm connected it gives me 256 colours only. Eventually I extracted the .exe with winrar but now I've got another problem. There are plenty of .inf files in there and I've got no idea which one should I use. Any help on this? Cheers yaro

Hi guys, We're in the middle of a migration from a Win2K forest to a Win2K3 forest and I'm having fun with Group Policies. We use GPO to deploy Office 2000 to clients, this is a machine assigned application. I have migrated the policy using GPMC but software deployments do not work from a workstation in the new domain trying to receive the source installation files form a machine in the old domain. I have even tried this with a new policy created in the new domain using MSI source files from the old domain. I guess my question is, initially simple; is it possible to deploy machine assigned software via Group Policy in a multi-forest environment? The fo…

When I set a number of secondes for the "-si" option and run the command line, it stay "idle"... but when I remove the option, the command-line work ans display the value. One of our Windows 2003 servers shows that the C: drive is 8.5Gb (don't ask) in Windows Explorer but in Disk Management & Diskpart 17Gb? I think this Drive was 8.5Gb (it's on a SAN HDS) but was extend using Diskpart a while ago. We do use SAN boot via Emulex HBA's. Thanks.

Hi! My Server model is Dell PowerEdge T300 running Windows 2003 Standard R2. It attached with Tandberg TS400 Backup Tape device. My server has installed Veritas 9.0 with IDR option. However when I try to restore the system from Veritas IDR, the system prompt me can't recognize the backup media. I have modify the asr.sif file in IDR diskete and add on the Tandberg TS400 backup driver in this file and rerun the IDR, however result failed also. Hi, I am trying to install an Ultrium td-2 on server 2008. It comes up in device manager with a Microsoft driver as installed and checking for updated drivers through windows says it is the best driver. However I can't access the tape drive itself. Is it supposed to work with 2008 server?

I ran the upgrade but 3/4 of the way through it asked for Disk 2. I inserted disk 2 but it says that it can not find the install.exe or install.ex_ file. I have viewed the disk and there is not install file. Do I skip the file and continue are is there something I am missing?

I have a problem with a few users where they will try to move or delete files in their share folder and they keep coming back or will move back to the origional folder whenever the user reboots or logs back on to the server. We are running Windows 2003 R2 Small Business Server with syncronized files. The users "My Documents" are mapped to their user drive. I have tried turning off the syncronized files, that did not work. I tried moving the files from the server itself, and when the user logs in, the files are back in the origional position. Im trying to figure out where the Incomming connections on Server 2K3 are stored. I need to write a script to remove them from 2200 servers but im not finding a registry key or a file that is associated with it. Stoping the remoreconnections Service wont work for me as the machines must still be able to initiate dial-up connections. I currently have a vbs to do this but it must be run interactively which wont work for me in this case. Thoughts?

what is the optimal RAM for w2003 x64 bit system with roles as file server, AD, and DC? the number users is only about 4 to 10 users. Goodmorning, I'm currently trying to create a shortcut for XP users on there desktop through a group policy on my Windows Server 2008. It's an EXE file. They can actually access it through a mapped drive I have created for them, however, I would simply like to create a shortcut on there desktop for convenience. I checked the event viewer on the users dekstop and it says "the specific file could not be found." However, I know the file exists and the path is typed in correctly, and my other GPO's deploy successfully. Hello, I have MDT 2003 installed and it seems to running just fine to install OS, but I cannot get it to install ANY applications. I have followed the instructions included in the documentation that accompanies MDT and have posted questions on several newsgroups and have still not been able to get MDT to serve the applications after the OS install and reboot. As I understand it, there is a script that needs to run after the OS install and it logs into the new install and then runs the app install that was requested during WinPE setup. This never happens on my installs. If I manually fire up the script, then it works, but not otherwise. What am I not do…

Hi, On a Windows Server 2003 SP2 file server, we have a folder, only one folder, that does not have a security tab and that we cannot delete or rename in explorer. We get the "Cannot delete file. Cannot read the source file or disk." error message.The folder is empty. I tried to delete it in a command prompt window with "rd" with I get the "The system cannot find the file specified." error message.
