I always thought that the 32 bit versions of Windows servers have a limit of 4GB RAM. Now is does not seem to be the case. Is it true that the 32 Bit version of Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise can support up to 64GB RAM?

File Permissions
by Guest Roberto R- 1 reply

On my Windows server 2003 i have a share with share permissions set to Everyone Full and NTFS permissions on the NTFS Permissions NTFS Permissions have Domain Users Read GROUP1 - FULL access If i have a user thats only in Domain Users when he accesses the folder he can only read, thats fine. however, if i add the same user to GROUP1, he still has read access and it never updates. The user should have FULL access in NTFS. If i place the user inside NTFS permissions as an individual acl he has full access. IT seems to me that added a user to the GROUP doesnt propogate fast or ever until i either remove the group and readd. Any ideas?

Convert EVT to CSV or TXT, or...
by Guest JayDee- 1 reply

Hi! We need to view an EVT file from one server on another but by default, this is not allowed. I'm wondering if anyone has a working utility to convert the EVT to a CSV or TXT so we can read it without requiring the original computer or if anyone has discovered a utility that will allow us to read the EVT from a different computer. Thanks!! - JayDee

I am hosting my own website. I redid it using Asp.net. I made sure the structure was preserved, Asp.net started in the services and enabled in IIS. However, my website is not seen from the internet. The old site had index.html, while the new one has Default.aspx which is added on Directory on IIS and moved all the way to the top. Is anything else I need to do? Would appreciate any help on this.

Resetting machine account password
by Guest v2win- 5 replies

Is resetting the secure channel on a domain member machine the same thing as resetting the secure channel? Using the <Netdom resetpwd> command, one can reset the password on a domain controller (which I believe will trigger replication to the other DCs). The <Netdom resetpwd> command is specific to DCs, per the tools description (via <Netdom resetpwd /?>. However, there is the <Netdom reset> command which is used to reset the secure channel between a member machine and a specified DC - is the "secure channel" reset actually just resetting the local machine's password in AD? -- Thanks, J

Can someone give me an idea of exactly what shadow copy is? My boss told me that he enabled shadow copy on one of our clients servers so that we don't have to restore from tape as much. I don't understand how I can restore from shadow copies?

Windows Server 2008 COMAdminCatalog
by Guest Zed- 2 replies

We are testing our application using Windows Server 2008 and we are facing a problem while trying to register our COM+ dlls using COMAdminCatalog. We use a vbs script that takes care of all COM+ configuration automatically for us, helping the installation process. But this script does not work properly on Windows 2008. The script runs without any error messages and checking the Component Services Management Console, the component appears there registered, but it doesn't start running. If we do a manual installation on Component Services MMC everything goes OK. Checking the registry differences using the Manual Installation and the COMAdminCatalog scrip…

Map Drive Login Script Issue
by Guest Jason- 9 replies
Hi Ok here is the situation.... I have a .vbs login script in the user portion of group policy object that maps drives to the user account depending on the groups they are in. There's no actual problem with the script. It does what it should do however on 2 machines it simply will not map the drives. THe script is written to delete any mapped drive the user may have before mapping the drives set out by the script. On these two machines, the deletion takes place but the mapping does not. Now here is the odd part. If I run the script directly on the machine it works fine. If I log in to another machine with the same user it works fine so the pro…

Missing Performance Counter Names?
by Guest Timothy- 0 replies

Hello All, Trying to troubleshoot some issues with a Windows 2003 server. Wanted to set up some counters in Performance Monitor only to discover that all of the names are missing. The counters just show up with numbers. Some research on the web led me to this: http://www.itnewsgroups.net/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.general/topic5739.aspx And this: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/659ab40f-5ca0-4f4f-b003-8f3f3e4514091033.mspx?mfr=true On my system that PerfStringBackup.ini file is only 10k. I did the lodctr /s: command to save a copy of the currently active counters -- that file was only 8k. Tried to restore off the 10k …

extend boot partition after adding HD to RAID array
by Guest David P. Lurie- 0 replies
W2K3 SP2 Prior configuration was 136GB basic partition with 2 HD in RAID-1. Added a third 136GB HD and successfully converted to RAID-5, with 136GB unallocated space. My understanding is that the unallocated space can't be used to extend the boot partition, and that the space should just be formatted as a basic disk and used for data. Is this correct? Thanks, dpl
