Unresponsive at login

We have 2 Dell servers purchased at the same time last year and configured exactly the same. They run a web application, HTTP, FTP and SMTP. The problem is that every fews days to a few weeks, we never know when, the server will become unresponsive when logging in to the console. This happens whether we log in at the monitor, using the remote access card or the rdp console. We get a black screen for about 30 - 45 minutes and either have to reboot or wait it out. During that time the server can be pinged but the web sites cannot be reached. There are no System or Application errors or even warnings in Microsoft. There are no viruses or trojans on the ser…

Moving Certificate Services from 2000 to 2003
by Guest Cyberwiz64- 0 replies

I am running Windows 2003 on my DCs. My CA is installed on a Windows 2000 server. I would like to move my certificate services from 2000 to a 2003 server. I saw the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298138/en-us but it says I have to upgrade the CA to 2003. I cannot do that because of other services running on the box. I want to get my CA on 2003 so it will support the autoenrollment of certificates feature. Does anyone know if... I can move my CA to another 2000 box and then upgrade the new CA to 2003 with minimal disruption? Any assistance is appreciate. Thank you.

Roaming profile security
by Guest Joe Brown- 1 reply

I want a few people on our help desk to have the ability to delete roaming profiles. I've created a Profile Admins group and added it to the security list for pcprofiles folder. If I check the box to replace permissions on child objects the Profile Admins group gets added to exisiting profile folders. New profiles, however, do not get the Profile Admins group when they get created because the new profiles do not have the box checked to inherit permissions. How do I fix this to where that box is checked for new profiles? We do not manually create the roaming profile.

I have three questions ?....

I have three questions, please answer them with explanation. Q-1) You are a network administrator for Uk. The network consists of a single Active Directory domain named Uk.com. Your company acquires a company named Usa. The USA network consists of a single Active-Directory domain named USA.com. A server named Server32 is a network-management application server in the USA.com domain. Server32 accesses all of the desktop client computers to perform automated software upgrades and hardware inventory. The network-management software on Server32 references desktop computers by unqualified host names, which are resolved to client name.USA.com by using a DNS …

Windows Server 2003 does not open its own share
by Guest amzd- 0 replies

Hello, I observed a funny thing. We have several Windows Server 2003. They are part of a domain, let us call it .pac. Let us call one server Munich. The servers have several shares, let us call one share on Munich "Inside". On server munich I open The Run-Window (Start, run) and then typ in: \\munich.pac\Inside The Server does not open the share, it asks for authentication which never works. I alway receive: Logon unsuccessful. Windows is unable to log you on. Be sure that your user name and password are correct. If I type in: \\munich\Inside then it opens the share immediately without any question. If I go to another windows server 2003 or my XP-Cli…

Hello all, My organisation has a windows server 2003 SP 1 domain controller running certificate services. During a previous upgrade to Win Server 2003 SP1, there were quite a number of issues arising form the upgrade. I am just being curious if there is any known issue with upgrading a domain controller running certificate service to service pack 2. I would appreciate responses from the house on the best way to upgrade the server without any issue. Regards Damola

I have been installing a new server to which I have connected a USB external hard drive. For the first time yesterday, I rebooted the server with the USB drive alraedy attached and my heart almost stopped when I got the ntldr not found message. I then unplugged the usb drive and the server booted up normally. Why would the server try to boot from the usb drive--is it probably a Bios setting ??

Hello, I am trying to synchronize the time on a bunch of client workstations and servers to their appropriate Domain Controllers. Eventually the Primary domain controller will be synchronized to an external time source. I have the following information, but I am not sure if it is correct: Open up registry and drill down to the following: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32TIME\Parameters original: type = NT5DS, NTPServer = time.windows.com,0x1 new: Type=AllSync,NtpServer=MCSDC1,0x1,MCSDC2,0x1 Is the syntax for the above line correct or should there be spaces instead of commas? Is there anything else that I need to do in o…

Migrating to 2008
by Guest Bad Beagle- 2 replies

I would like to migrate a WIndows 2003 server to new hardware and at the same time migrate it to 2008. This will be the first 2008 server in my environment. It is used as a file server. Does anyone know of any tools to use to copy the files from one server to the other and retain ntfs and share permissions as well as file ownership? Obviously the tool needs to support 2008. Thanks for any advice.
