I have a windows 2003 enterprise R2 server running SP2 and trying to get 2 scripts to run as scheduled tasks on a nightly basis. What seems to happen is they run once after I set the password for them. Than the next night they will not run stating "could not start" . If I go in and set the password again I can run them manually and they will run once more than they give me the same error the next night. The account that it is running under doesn't seem to matter what I use, I created a local account in the admin group, a domain account and gave it admin privledges to the box and even used the domain administrator account which all produce the same result. Ha…

by Guest need2learn- 2 replies
Hi I have recently installed a brand new ASUS computer for server (Windows 2003) and backed it up with 1250P UPS manufactured by Power Tree. I have configured the UPS for auto shut-down 5 minutes after power failure. The shut down is happening but after the power is restored, the server does not re-start. I have installed another computer and UPS of same brand but with Windows XP Professional. This one is working fine and after power failure it shuts down and re-starts automatically as configured. I have also done the BIOS setting for re-starting both the computers but the SERVER with Windows 2003 does not re-start. Can someone help me with this…

Messages about corrupt files
by Guest Guus Ellenkamp- 0 replies
I get some weird messages about corrupt files when making a backup of files on a network location. I am using DFS. The files are on a virtual location with two domain controllers hosting this location. The files are also replicated to two folders. When backing up throught the network location I get error messages about some files being corrupted. When backing up the same files from one of the folders locally the backup works fine. System w2003. The problem happens as well as making backups on a 2003 server as well as on an XP Professional workstation. Please advise.

by Guest JohnB- 3 replies

In the MS Press book for 70-291 it talks about an alternative to NetBIOS based browsing. It says that you can "add network shares to the AD Global Catalog Server". It's an interesting idea but, how would one do that?

Domain Group backup Operators

Hello, just a small question, because I did not find the answer on the net: Is the built-in Domain group "backup-Operators" by default added to the local "backup-operators" group on every server on the domain or do I have to manually create a group an add it via GPO to the "backup- operators"-group on every server? Thanx in advance PR

Allowing a given port to only be access by a given application
by Guest nathanjlaw@yahoo.com- 0 replies

Hi, Is it possible to configure windows server 2000 or 2003 to only allow a given port to be used by a given application, e.g. application named fred can only use port 123 and no other application can ever use port 123. The reason for this is that occasionaly the application must be taken down and during this time other applications can grab the port so when fred comes back up it cannot run on that port. I am not a server expert and it is not my applications, but a client was experiencing this situation and I thought I would ask around if there was such a configuration that could be put in place. Thanks, Nate

Windows 2008 - regedit - highligh open folder?
by Guest boe- 2 replies
Hello, I'm new to 2008 server. I'm searching through my registry using regedit but when it goes into registry folder e.g. hklm\software\microsoft - it doesn't highlight microsoft in the left pane of regedit so it can be hard to track down what fold you are in if you are many layers deep other than looking at the bottom and then tracking down where that folder is. Is there a new registry editor I need to use that includes the highlight function for the open folder? Thanks

Event ID 333
by Guest Venkat- 2 replies

Hi, We are using Windows 2003 server SP2 Enterprise edition. Our server hangs often and is generating Event ID 333. Event ID 333 says "An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the Registry." After going through the events, i also found Event ID 2020 which says "The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty." So i just wanted to know what was causing these errors. Once if we restart the server, it works fine for some time and again this events starts generating and the server…

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

/3GB analysis
by Guest Justin Rich- 7 replies

so, I understand how the /3gb switch works, but is there a way to tell what the kernel end of things is currently eating up? is it assumed that it always takes as much as it has? We have an instance where we might need to do this, but I was wondering how I would go about analyzing the system to get a feel on whether this will be a good thing or not. from what I have seen its a try it and find out, unfortunately this is a production system and people don't like to just try things, they would like a little certainty. Thanks Justin

I am having problems deleting the previous mapped drives. If I put the delete 'code' in the VBScript, it deletes the mapping later on in the script (so no M: drive at all). If I put it in a separate batch file, it deletes the mapping (no M: or U: drives). However, the drives being mapped to staff departments isn't the problem. It's the My Documents redirection and user's rights at the root of \\server\department that is. So...I created unique GPO's per Staff OU redirecting each to their respective folder, here's the error: Event Type: Error Event Source: Folder Redirection Event Category: None Event ID: 108 Date: 5/30/2008 Time: 4:55:26 PM …

Jobs hang in print queue win 2003 standard
by Guest Mike S.- 3 replies
I have set up Win 2003 standard server as a print server, and one of the required hotfixes, knowledge base article 934885, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934885 is required to prevent the print jobs from hanging up in the queue. I have tried the work arounds but it requires that you restart the computer, or the print spooler, every time you print a job. The bottom of the article requires that I submit a request, to microsoft, for the hotfix (which I have done twice) and they will respond within 8 business hours. NO REPLY!! How do I work around this, or obtain the hot fix. Any help is appreciated. -- Wheels@discussions.microsoft.com
