shutdown script
by Guest Sailor- 0 replies

I am trying to disable loopback adapeter with a shutdown script. It appears that when the script is running the network adapter is not found or it doesn't even disable it. I can enable and disable the adapter without any problems when I have not requested a shutdown. It appears that the network adapter information is all "gone" and not available anymore when the OS shutdown / reboot routine has started. Is there some other place I can to get this accomplished earlier before the network information is gone? e: cd \jobs\reboot date /t >reboot.txt time /t >>reboot.txt echo disabling loopback>>reboot.txt netsh interface set interf…

Help!! I need to delete the Windows Update files.......
by Guest AllenM- 7 replies

My C: drive is nearly full with less than 600 MB free space left. And it is all of the Windows Update downloads. I only use 2x18 GB SCSI drives mirrored for my OS and all I basically have on C: is the OS and system programs. Buy my Windows directory is using about 14 GB of the space. C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB823182$ Can I delete these? Or move them to another volume in case I need to uninstall (highly unlikely) these updates? I know I will not be able to use Add/Remove programs to remove once I get rid of these but this is my only option. thanks in advance and apprecite any quick post back.

NTP help
by Guest Domon- 4 replies

Hi My domain controller which is the PDC has encountered some warning and errors during NTP time synchronization. The errors are logged in this order. 1) Event 38 Source w32Time ( logged for a few times) 2) Event 47 source w32Time Time Provider NtpClient: No valid response has been received from manually configured peer <IP address> after 8 attempts to contact it. This peer will be discarded as a time source and NtpClient will attempt to discover a new peer with this DNS name. 3) Event 29 source w32Time The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently ac…

Quick background: Windows Server 2003 Native-mode AD, XP workstations. We have employees in our environment who do not have admin rights on their local computer and are installing Firefox to their systems by pointing the install path to their Documents and Settings folders. Because of this non-standard install, the path to the Firefox executable is not consistent. I have found a way to block access to an executable using a path restriction in Group Policy, but is there a way to block access to an executable by name regardless of its path? (Note: this GPO would have more applications than just Firefox, but it is the example I'm facing right now.) …

In "How to configure an authoritative time server in Windows Server 2003" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042), found the following, but could not find where and how to configure it: All available synchronization mechanisms The "all available synchronization mechanisms" option is the most valuable synchronization method for users on a network. This method enables synchronization with the domain hierarchy and may also provide an alternative time source if the domain hierarchy becomes unavailable, depending on the configuration. If the client cannot synchronize time with the domain hierarchy, the time source automatically falls back to the time source that…

Login script and drive mappings
by Guest hrd2fnd- 2 replies

Having no experiance with scripting I thought I would ask for some help. I have this login script that maps 2 groups to the same drive letter depending on which group they are in. The problem is the users are in both groups and none of the drive mappings will map. I'm assuming that it is because of being in both groups that want the same drive letter. Can anyone give me some advice? Here is a pasting of the script. Thank you in advance Hrd Case "DEPT-xxxx_xxxx" WSHNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "W:" wscript.sleep 300 WSHNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "W:", "\\server1\xxx\xxx",True Case "DEPT-yyyy_GRP" WSHNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "W:" ws…

by Guest Naruto- 3 replies

Hi, I want to robocopy files created yesterday (based on the "Date Modified" timestamp) It seems to me that the options /MAXLAD /MINLAD /MAXAGE /MINAGE are calculating based on 24 hrs timeframe. For example, if I use /MAXAGE:1 and robocopy at 3pm, I will get the logs from 3pm yesterday up to current time but not the logs at 2:59 pm yesterday. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Application log Event ID 513 from CAPi2
by Guest Sejong- 0 replies
After the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role is added to a Windows Server 2008 server, running vssadmin list writers generates output that does not include System Writer and generates Event ID 513 from CAPi2 in the Application log. Text of this event: Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object. Prior to adding the AD DS role, running vssadmin list writers generates output that does include System Writer and does not generate Event ID 513. Permissions on the Registration folder in the Windows folder (%windir%) are as shown below. In all cases the permission are shown under Special permis…
