TS User Home Directory and Folder redirection
by Guest Robert Wegner- 1 reply

Hi everybody, when i set the TS User Home Directory via GPO (Win Server 2003), how can i make the GPO- folder redirections (Startmenue, Desktop, User Data) to this directory? The TS User Home Directory will be created like "\\server\share\USERNAME.DOMAIN". So i tried %homeshare%, %Homepath%, and "\\server\share\%username%.%userdomain%" but it wont work. Is there another way? The reason is (maybe theres a totally different way, i haven't thought of yet): I've got a Win2003 Terminalserver environment with users from different domains on different locations. The all got a normal (not TS) homedirectory set in their AD-user object. It gets automatically mapped to …

We'd like to have some way of recording when scheduled tasks run in the windows event log (application/system doesn't really matter which). It would appear windows does not do this by default. Is there a policy somewhere to enable this? If not does anyone know of an alternate way to obtain such logging? Thanks, Brad

Remote folder options
by Guest Isaac Grover- 2 replies

Good morning from Wisconsin, We have a client company that needs to use the shared folders on their Windows Server 2003 box outside of the office using Windows Explorer on Windows XP Professional SP2, as several of the employees travel away from the office often. We don't need to set up an expensive VPN, and I have been looking at using WebDAV, but we've never worked with this technology before. Are there issues with WebDAV that we need to be aware of, or are there other better options available? -- Isaac Grover, Owner Quality Computer Services of River Falls, Wisconsin Web: http://www.qcs-rf.com

Group policy errors
by Guest Chris Ferraro- 0 replies

I have a Windows 2003 SP2 Small Business server. I am experiencing the error below every time group policy processing runs. I see it in the event log every 5 minutes. I enabled userenv logging and noted the error "GetUserNameEx failed with 14" at the same time. I determined that the error 14 referenced here is "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation". There is sufficient storage available. I found references to excessive group membership causing this issue, but I don't have very many groups available and no user should be a member of very many. I performed the steps listed in Q article 937535, but these steps did not make a d…

I have recently migrated all my user accounts to our parent company's Domain and I have retired the last of the domain controllers from the domain to be retired. Now the only remnant of the old domain is the retired domain still shows as an available domain in the login dialog. My question is how do I remove the listing of the retired domain from the available domains when people log into their systems? Thanks for any help.

I have a W2K3 DC server. Most machines are XP. Just testing Vista now. I can log on fine with an admin account in the domain, but when I log on to the Vista pc with a user domain account (roaming), it signs in with Temp and no settings can be saved. Is this a permission issue? Or does Vista look elsewhere for profiles? any help is great thanks.

How to Turn Off System Beep Globally
by Guest hotday2222- 0 replies

Problem: How do I turn off the system beep that comes from the tower for all users? I already went into the registry as administrator and changed it there under hkey_current_user/control panel/sounds, but this only turned it off for the administrator account. WHen other accounts log on they still get the system beep; with many accounts it would be a pain to go and turn it off individually. Cannot Give Permission to Folder for Access from Other Computers
by Guest hotday2222- 2 replies
I have a network set up with a server and 5 client computers (networked as workgroup). I've created folders in the server for clients. However, I want to restrict folders so they are accessed only by certain client computers (ex. client a); in addition, I also want to restrict them so only a specific user from a specific client computer is able to access the folder (ex. \\client_a\john). Problem: When I go the the folder's Share tab and click 'Permission' it doesn't allow me select users from a location different than the server itself. I can't look for users in other computers in the network. How do I solve this? I'm using Widows 2003 SP2 -- hot…

KMS multiple keys not showing

I have just installed multiple keys onto a newly installed KMS, running the slmgr.vbs /ipk twice (once for each product key – Vista & W2k8) and then I went through the activation process. My concern is that when I run slmgr.vbs /dlv it displays a line that reads “Partial Product Key: ABCDE”, but this key only represents the Vista licence key and not the W2k8 licence. Does this mean that it I can not register W2k8 against this service? I thought it would register all products. Steve

Windows Server 2003 Deleting Files
by Guest cypherus- 2 replies

I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 and three times now a folder has been deleted from a user's network drive. No one has access to this except me and the user and from what the user says, she isn't doing anything wrong. She logs in and the folder is gone. I am able to recover from backup, but that's not the point. Is there any way to find out who or when a file is deleted either in the Event Viewer or otherwise?
