This is for a Win2003 PDC. I read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 and I think I have this set up correctly. The only thing I need to know is where to stick tock.usno.navy.mil,0x1 . I don't see an option in the registry that has anything like this in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time\TimeProviders\NtpServer Can someone help me? Thanks! Phil

Win 2003 DC moving to new office - sanity check
by Guest Barkley Bees- 1 reply

We have two main Offices - A and B. Office A is where our main DC is located (Windows 2003 Domain native mode, single forest, single site - GC, DHCP, WINS, DNS). Site B also has a DC (GC, WINS, DNS - No DHCP). The two sites are connected by IPSec VPN tunnel (30MB bandwidth). Office B is moving to a new location that will be getting a new address range so I will need to move the DC. It seems simple enough but I was hoping to get a sanity check on my planned process below: Day 1 - Run DCPromo on Office B DC to demote it to a member server. - Remove from Domain. - Rename (to follow naming convention for new office). - Shutdown server. - Allow ~16 hours f…

Question on event log errors
by Guest yepiknowiam- 12 replies

Not sure if someone can help me out with this, but wanted to ask. We have 2 servers (HP ML350 G3) running server 2003 with sp2. About 5 days apart, both started to fail and have issues at the same time, identical errors in the event log. The main system errors are event id 333 (An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not read in or write out or flush one of the files that contain the system's image of the Registry) and event id 773 Server Agents. There also will be some warning at the same time in the application log related to prefdisk, which is weird because we don't track counters. From what I can t…

Hello all, I am setting up the NTP server function in the Windows 2003 PDC server. There are not much information about the value in W32Time registry, so hope to get some help here. The NTP server on Windows 2003 is for company wide usage purpose that will synchronize cisco network devices, unix servers and windows 2000/NT. Also the Windows 2003 will act as a NTP client to synchronize from the GRPS time source.(The Windows 2003 is also a Primary Domain Controller). /----- Network Devices (Cisco...) Hi On my DC and Fileserver. All files have the read only attribute set. Nobody in the IT dept. did anything... or so they say. The file attribute has been inherite from above the root drives on the server. Ex. files in the root of drive D:\ has the file attribute Read Only marked and grayed out. So I can't unmark it. How can this happen? And how do I solve it?

I have installed Win2k3 Standard sp2 with terminal server. I want to restrict some users to use only a certain application and not all the installed apps and server resources. I have achieved this by simple adding the program executable name and his path on Terminl server Configuration > Connections > Rdp-Tcp > Environment > "Start this program at logon" When I start the rdp session, the user can see only the specified app, whit no desktop icons, app bar, right mouse click works only on the started application, but I have discovered that if I use the application "Open" option, I can browse the server/network file system and even delete files…

Removing a drive from a software RAID 5 array. Win2K3 server
by Guest Calab- 2 replies

I have a Windows 2003 Server that currently has five 500gig drives in a RAID 5 array. The array is healthy. Unfortunately, we need temporarily need a 500gig drive for an issue unrelated to this machine. Other than losing the protection of RAID 5, would there be any issues if we shut down the server, removed one drive, and brought the server back online? If we format the removed drive and use it elsewhere can we still be able to reinstall it into the server and let the array rebuild itself? From what I understand, this should all be fine, as long as we don't have another drive fail in the array while a drive is removed. I also know performance will s…
