by Guest ssirmans- 4 replies

I have a server that the builder only gave a 4gig OS partition. Plenty of space is left on the data partion. OS partition is almost full. What are my options to remedy other than building a new server, with a proper OS partion size, and forklift the data. This is a file server and drive is part of a raid 5 configuration. Any ideas????

Sharing printer from x64 without 64-bit drivers
by Guest TurboFool- 0 replies
I'm working with a team to migrate a client over to several new servers, most of which are running Server 2003 x64. Their older servers were on x86. 90% of the project is routine and not giving us any trouble, but I'm running into issues with the printers. I'm trying to move their shares over to the new server (connecting to them via IP address) and running into issues with lack of 64-bit support by their manufacturers. Most are HP LaserJets which are working fine. But I've got a couple of Canons, Brothers, and Lexmarks that don't seem to have ANY x64 drivers in production for Server 2003 (some have Vista x64). Now I have absolutely no need to actually PRINT…

Moving DFS root from 1 server to another
by Guest Noob- 2 replies
I know that I am making this way too difficult but here is my question. I am removing an old 2003 (sp2) file server that has our root DFS (Domain based) on it. I have already moved all the files to the new 2003 (x64) server and updated the links in DFS. Now I need to move the DFS root target to the new server and keep the same name\share. Do I just create a new Root target? If this is true then when I create the new root I can't use the same name. So how do I do this? Any advice or direction would be welcome

Mysterious Mail Server problems!
by Guest Nick- 5 replies
We have a small network of 6 client pc's connected to a new 2003 SBE server. Today, for some unkown reason, we could not retreive any emails from two particular mail servers residing at our ISP. Other mail accounts we have could be retreived. We could all send emails though through SMTP on all accounts . Previously, we have had no problems, and the ISP has assured us there are no problems their end. We do not use MS Exchange (It's not installed), so we are using Outlook Express for all mail accounts on regular pop3 ISP servers. The strange thing is that the mail can be retreived from the same accounts outside the office (ie home etc), but not from our ne…

Initial creation and regen of mirror takes over a day
by Guest Jordan- 0 replies
I just added a mirrored stripe set on my Windows 2000 server (Raid 5+0). It is a device that allows two RAID 5 setups and I have each setup with 5 of the 500GB SATAII drives. Total for each RAID 5 array is 2TB usable. I set Windows 2000 Disk Manager to mirror those arrays. Yes, I know it is overkill but I have my reasons. Disk Manager has been showing the mirror "Resyncing" for over 12 hours and I think at this rate it looks like it has over 24 more hours left. Since these drives are all blank and the setup is new I thought the process would be very quick on the initial setup, but that does not seem to be the case. I don't think it is drive perfor…

Faxes not storing in "My Company Web"
by Guest Nick- 0 replies
Having run the Fax configuration Wizard, and selected the desired routing destinations, I notice that the faxes are not storing on the company web page as requested. ('Store in Document Library') The other routing parameters are stored (Print, and store in a folder) I select the routing destination for the "Incoming Faxes" folder within the Document Library, and it accepts it, but after finishing the wizard and then running through it again, the only option unchecked is the "Store in Document Library" again. The rest are as previously set. Once again, any suggestions would be appreciated. Tks

WSUS 3.0 and WOL
by Guest phish-43- 1 reply

I need a solution for WSUS 3.0 managed machines to wake computers when they need updates and power them off when complete. This doesn't seem like a new concept but I have not been able to find any good information to accomplish this. What is everyone using to install updates in a completely automated way on machines which are off at night.

Hi! In Windows 2008 I noticed that while in the logon screen the shutdown options include: - shutdown - restart - sleep - hibernate After I log in, the start menu offers only : - log off - switch user - restart - shutdown But no sleep or hibernate. Also I noticed that while logged in, after pressing ctrl-alt-del in theat menu sleep and hibernate are again available. Sleep and hibernate also both correctly work. They are just missing from the start menu. Any idea why is this ? How to put them back ? Regards, David

Windows Server 2008 and defrag.exe
by Guest MikeM- 1 reply
I've just upgraded my workstation to Windows Server 2008 Standard x64, and I've noticed that the availability of the command line defrag.exe utility depends on which shell I'm using (I alternate between cmd.exe and JP Software's TCC; defrag.exe shows up when using the cmd.exe shell). Any thoughts ? Is this utility (and possibly others) tied to the cmd.exe shell ? I'm running as a user in the Administrator group, so I'm pretty sure it's not a privilege issue. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I know Server can support both standards. Are there two different copies of server available, 32 & 64 or does 1 dvd/cd do both? We are looking to implement either Windows Server 08 Standard or Enterprise.

Windows Server 2003
by Guest Scott Z- 5 replies

Greetings all - Dammed if I can find this, but I am looking for share limits in Win2k3. Specifically if there is an answer to what/if any limits for Win2k3 server out to XP 32 bit workstations on a TCP/IP network. I have a IP-SAN that has >3tb partitions which I realize XP 32 bit will not be able to see these. However if I share these on a Windows 2003 Server coming from the IP-SAN, would XP 32 bit systems now be able to see these?

Hello, I'd like to modify this script I found on the web so that it will not remove any printers attached to the print servers other than the one specified in the script, this is an example of what I want it to do Scenario: 3 Print Servers - Print1 - Print1A - Print2 Client PC has 3 printers installed - P001 on server Print1 - P002 on server Print1 - P010 on server Print2 Action: How would I modify the below script so that it only removes the printers from server Print1, and readds them from server Print1A - leaving any printers that are attached to server Print2 ========================================= On Error Resume Next 'Creates varia…

Network Software
by Guest SPG- 0 replies

A while back in some online publication I read where an Administrator said that every morning he ran a network scan that inventoried all workstations hardware and software, and that it would flag any workstation that had a change in either the hardware or software. This, he said, is how he discovered some malware that was installed on 30 machines overnight. I just installed Softinventive's Total Network Inventory and am still learning it, when I have the time. But, does anyone know of any network scan software that will flag any changes in workstations (both hardware and software). Thanks, Sam

We are storing our shadow copies on an external USB drive. Whenever we need to reboot the PC, we lose all the previous shadow copies. How can we prevent this from happening? Or how can we back them up and restore them after a reboot.?
