Problem with a script execution for stopping services.
by Guest angelmoreno- 1 reply

Hi, I have a problem with a little script that stops four services. When I test the script in a command line, the script runs correctly, and it stops the services. The problem is when I schedule the script with the at command, the scheduler have an error, and the services don't stopped. Any idea? The service which executes the task programmer is started with the local system account. The local system account has permissions in the script and the container folder. Very thanks...

Situation: Database server with several networked apps. Several apps are set up to use services that those apps have created, e.g. backup exec and "Track-It!". Each app had a service account under which it was run (generally domain administrator). few weeks ago the services could not start under domain admin, but can under local system. At least one cannot just leave it alone as a work around because it uses an outlook profile on the machine and local system, I'm told, won't work with the profile. only server in domain with this issue

Indexing just a portion of a webpage
by Guest Matt- 1 reply

Hello, I have created a catalog for a website using the Indexing Service. Is there a way to make the Indexing Service only index a portion of each webpage in the site (i.e. the content area)? Right now, my search descriptions are pulling back all of the text on each page (the navigation, header text, ... ). As you can see below, this info is pretty pointless. Does anyone know if there is a way to scan just the content area? ********example search result******* Demographics Site Search. SIDCO. About SIDCO. Mission Statement. Affiliates & Staff. Available Properties. Pawling Station Business Park. Peachey Industrial Park. Search Properties. Business …

[Win2k Sp4, updates current as of 13 Sep 07...p4 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM] Howdy; Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolving this? Articles I've found on MSDN and past postings here refer to a fix...from a couple of years ago yet my system's up-to-date. Any leads would be appreciated. Details below are gleaned from Process Explorer v10.06. thx, -Craig About every 30 minutes, services.exe spikes to 100% of cpu. The thread is listed as services.exe+0x85f7 and is initiating a UDP session w/a local address of "clientname:bootpc." The spikes last about 30 seconds apiece. This is on a LAN with 3 (DHCP) Windows clients, a (fixed IP) NAS and t…

I have checked the event logs of the domain controller server and since I have started to get this issue I have started to get the following warnings in the system log: Event ID: 40960 Source: LSASRV The Security settings detected an anuthentication erro for the server LDAP\<Domain Controller Server Name>. The failure code from Authentication protocol kerberos was 'There are currently no logon servers available to service logon requests' Since we have got this message the DC cannot ping other servers, but the other servers can ping the DC. Any ideas why this is happenning.

Hyperterm error (non-admin user) Windows 2000 Professional

When I try to run a hyperterm session as a non-admin user I get the following error mesage:- Windows has reported a TAPI error (80000048). Use the phone and modem options icon in the control panel to ensure a modem is installed properly. However, when I run as admin user it works fine. Funnily enough, there is no modem icon in control panel and I cant find modem.cpl either (this is a secure clamped down machine). Is there another way to stop this mesage?

A query on raid arrays
by Guest nesredep egrob- 1 reply

I have a 750 SATA disk on which I hold all my photos and video. When that disk is half full it will be a devil to backup. I therefore thought that I should install another similar disk in a raid array. Well I sat down and read and worked my way through it and eventually got there but not without some extra unexpected work - that being saving what was on the original 750GB disk as I got a message duing the installation that all data would be lost. I wonder if I got it wrong at some time as I would have thought that the new disk should have picked up what was already stored. It is now done - I have the raid array working fine now - I just wonder if I could have…

My computer sometimes freezes coming out of standby (attempt #2).

I first posted the following message here 6 days ago, but to my surprise, this received no responses at all. The problem my message describes continues to recur, so I'll try posting this again to bring it back to the "top of the stack". Any clues anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. ~~~~~~~ begin original message ~~~~~~~ Greetings, group. I've been experiencing an annoying problem with my Windows 2000: I usually put my computer in "Standby" mode at night to kill fan and disk noise without wiping out contents of RAM. I prefer standby over shut-down because the computer can be shut-down and re-started MUCH faster that way. (About 2 seconds to…

What is the most minimum privilege needed for a user to be able to configure a wireless network interface? Must they be a member of "Administrators", or is "Power Users" sufficient, or is there something even lesser that will let them configure the interface?

unable to ear system's sound
by Guest :. mrcmobile- 1 reply

win2k workstation sp4 - Audio driver AC97 last updates. It happens that I can't ear system sounds. All wav files are played correctly. If I play a test wav file I can ear it correctly. If I go to control panel sounds and I assign a sound to an operation (f.i. empty trash), the speakers play correctly the wav files. But if I close control panel and I try to empty trash or anything other applications with associated sound, I can only ear the beep from the motherboard buzzer. I have re-installed ac97 drivers with last updates. No success. Any tips? Thank you. Marco

Hi all, Running W2K, SP4, with all the updates. Occasionally, when I have two explorer windows open, and I'm dragging and dropping files between folders, I get this error in the middle of a copy and/or move operation: "the file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect" The path shown in the error message box also sometimes has some weird, non-printing, characters in it. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks!

GUI Issue
by Guest Roger Fink- 1 reply
I'm having two GUI problems in Windows 2000. Perhaps they are related. In my desktop computer, which is set up the way I want, I'm able to display the files within the Control Panel as large icons. This is the only folder I do this with, for the rest I use the details view. Additionally, in the quicklaunch taskbar, I can arrange the application shortcut icons any way I want. Both of these aforementioned settings remain reliably consistent. By contrast, the laptop is kind of rebelious. It only allows me to use the Details view for the Control Panel icons (I can change it but it always reverts to Details when reopened). Also, the same application shortcut icons …

2000 Server not accessible after dcpromo
by Guest Jeffery Rehm- 1 reply

Had a 2000 server as a domain controller and installed a 2003 server. I ran the forest and domain prep on the 2000 box, made the 2003 a domain controller and transferred all the roles to the 2003 box. DNS is currently on both machines with the 2003 box now being primary and 2000 secondary. DNS is working fine and no replication or any other errors on either box. 2003 will process logins fine and all seems well... except for one thing. Demoted the 2000 box and now I cannot access it from the 2003 box. Get network unavailable or access denied depending on what I'm doing. Can access the 2003 from the 2000 without a problem. I tried removing the 2000 bo…

Can see xp machines and printers from win 2k pc and can share printer on win 2k pc. I could never see the win 2k pc from normal "my network places" but could get on it by "search for computer and enter win 2k pc computer name & then user/pw. I could add shortcuts to xp pc but would lose them when i had to reboot xp pc. I was trying to change something on the win 2k pc, was tired of always fussing with it. Went to control panel-system properties-network Id and then clicked Net…

prevent files being deleted or modified...
by Guest Leslie- 1 reply

Hi. I have a growing number of files in NTFS folder shares (W2K) that I want to protect from modification or deletion by a group of users (call them 'GroupA'). I thought I would be able to achieve this by applying the deny delete, delete sub-folders and files, append data, change permission and take ownership permissions to GroupA on the files in question. As 'deny' permission takes precedence over 'allow' I expected any rights GroupA inherited to modify the file would have been superceded by the 'deny' permissions. However, when I tested this I found GroupA users were still able to delete the files. (I didn't check whether they could modify them) Look…
