Print Spooler takes a large percentage of CPU time.
by Guest davidtheweb- 0 replies
I have a recurring issue with a Print Spooler on a Windows 2000 Server. A print job will get stuck and take a large amount of the CPU time. I stop the print spooler in Services, go into Windows (or Winnt) | System32 | Spool | Printers and delete all jobs in that folder and restart the print spooler. This fixes the issue temporarily, but several days later, the same process occurs. Is there a way to trace where the stuck print job is coming from, or has anyone run into this same issue? Thanks, David

NAS_server crashing, takes mapped users with it
by Guest Steve- 0 replies

Got an issue that's resurfaced a few times. Win2k Server crashes due to non-paged memory leak, and any workstations with mapped drives to the server slow down to a crawl, no icons on the desktop, very slow to respond. Why would the server take down these users, instead of dosconnect? -- Steve Sleczkowski Desktop Engineer

Login Script problem.
by Guest Sandeep K- 0 replies

History of issue:- All users belonged to the Single(e.g:- S) OU in the Active Directory. This OU(i.e S) had Group Policies assigned against it and a number of Logon scripts were run. All users were located in one location with no problems. A project was raised to separate the users in two different OU ( E.g:- U1 and U2) because of businesses requirment and the in new building was prepared. As a joint exercise, the U1 users and U2 users were separated into 2 newly created OU's (e.g:- S1 and S2). These new OU's ran the same GPO's (with some slight differences, mainly branding) and the same Logon scripts. The U2 staff were moved to new building. At…

I am trying to setup iSCSI initiator on a Windows 2000 Server (SP4). I was able to setup the Targets, and persistant targets. When I try to Bind all in the Bound Volumes/Devices tab all I get is the following: \\?\storage#volume#1&30a . . . . . . . . . When I set up the initiator on a windows 2003 server I am able to see and bind the virtual drive on the target server. Any ideas? Thanks, Michael

WMI Service - Stops/Starts Multiple Timees per Day
by Guest Dan Marbes- 0 replies

I support a number of Windows 2000 servers in an enterprise enviroment (as well as Server 2003). I'm having issues with a number of the 2K machines. The WMI service will terminate unexpectedly and then (per the recovery options) restart. The service works as it is supposed to after the restart, but since we monitor the environment with MOM, this is sending a large number of alerts which I would like to eliminate. Does this repeated restart indicate a problem with the WMI service or should I look elsewhere for the root cause? I have not seen the issue on any of the 2003 servers, but am not familiar enough with the construction of the services to know…

Anyone able to view videos at NBCOlympics.com?
by Guest void.no.spam.com@gmail.com- 0 replies

Is anyone running Windows 2000 able to view the videos at NBCOlympics.com? I know they use Silverlight, and Silverlight 2.0 is supported under Windows 2000 as long as you use IE 6 SP1. I haven't installed Silverlight 2.0 yet, and when I go to NBCOlympics.com and try to pull up a video, a pop-up from NBC says that they only support XP and Vista. Wondering if anyone with W2K and Silverlight 2.0 can verify if they can view the live streaming or not.

Changing the Windows Explorer View to 'List' from 'icons'
by Guest adrianr- 0 replies
Hello, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 AD Domain in Windows 2000 mode. I've written a script that changes the windows explorer view to 'list'. It works by writing values to the 'Streams' key in HKCU and seems to work fine when I run this as an administrator. However, when I login as a non-administrator, the view is still 'icons'. I have written a second script to interrogate the registry to verify that the changes that I made had been written successfully - they had. Given that the non-administrator user has group policy settings applied to them, would this be the reason why my registry changes are not taking effect? As far as I can…

I have a w2k machine, up to date, with both external usb devices, memory sticks etc. as well as an internal card reader using 2 USB internal ports. Works fine most of the time and WIN2k allocates 2 drive letters (left and right slot) Occasionally this would not be seen by the system. Now it is permanent! Win2k shows the two drive letters, but device manager show and "unknown" usb device. I have set variable so I can see uninstalled devices etc. and have removed all disk drives not in use and also all old USB devices. Only change is that W2k no longer shows drive letters. Uninstalling unknown device then searching for new devices brings up "Foun…

MI5. Persecution Update: Friday 7 April, 2000 22,544 + 837 =. 23,381 Last. weekend I delivered another 837 faxes to politicians and the media on the subject. of the security service conspiracy which has destroyed my life. This brings the total in the. last three years to at least 23,381. These totals do not include partially delivered. faxes. Some of the. recipients of these faxes must know that what I say is true; and. I hope to motivate those people to acknowledge the reality of the harassment. which has followed me for ten years. It takes much time to transmit these articles, but. as OCG MD Simpson-Wells said to me in 1992, you have to be. a good commun…

The only people you can prosecute are the proxies and they will deny knowledge of. any c…

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -= who knows about it?. =- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Many people know, both in the establishment and media, and. among the general public. Despite an absence. of its target from the UK for more than two years, the echoes of paranoia can still be heard loud and clear. from across the water. When it started in 1990,. the only people who knew were those in BBC television who. were spying on my home, and a few radio broadcasters. There were a few cases. of public harassment, but very little compared. to the situation that developed a couple of years later. The list today. includes BBC TV staff (newsreaders such as Martyn Lewis, Michael…
