Cannot boot from disk 0 after mirror rebuild only from floppy
by Guest Bob Klein- 0 replies

Lost disk (0), broke mirror, replaced the drive and rebuilt the mirror. But the drive will not boot without the help of my Fault tolerant disk. Disk (0) has c: as active partition and I have all the proper files and boot.ini set correctly. I've read and done everything in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/119467 & 120227 but still cannot get it to boot. Using the diskpart.exe utility it shows C:\ as active on both disk 0 and disk 1. I also booted to the windows 2000 startup and did a repair with the ERD, having it inspect startup and boot. Still no luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

MrxSmb - 8034 - (c0000017) warning
by Guest leequid- 0 replies

Hello people. I have the notorious "MrxSmb" "8034" warning in most (if not all..) Windows 2000 installations in the network of my work. Searching in the net i found a lot of suggestions but none of them seems to match exactly my case. The problem is that i find "c0000017" as the last DWORD parameter which means "STATUS_NO_MEMORY". We have installed two domain controllers (Win2k). This warning (along with some other similar warnings) appears in other client too but rarely. It wouldn't mind at all if this thing didn't cause a halt in a procedure of a specific client (Win2k) that collects statistics from other clients in the network and pass them to Oracle 9…

erratic mouse in win2000 on old vaio laptop
by Guest stefmazurek@gmail.com- 0 replies

I have an old Vaio Laptop PCG-F650 and most of the time use an external compaq PS/2 mouse through the 9-pin connector in the back instead of the touch pad. The external mouse works fine, but whenever I boot the computer anew, the mouse freaks out only by touching it; it's all over the screen. Then, I have to unplug the mouse, touch the mouse pad a couple of times; the pointer eventually stops going erratic. After this procedure, I can plug the mouse back in through the 9-pin and the mouse works fine. Now, I have to repeat this procedure everytime I shut-down windows. I tried disabling the touch pad, but this does not help. Anyone has an idea? I'd appreci…

Any suggestions please! Familiar with internals of win2kpro but this one has beaten me! After a few probs and rebuild of system, suddenly any 16bit program(Coreldraw 5 for example) which opens with "wowexec" has an odd problem. Programs open/run fine, but when a ''open file'' command is issued and the dialog box pos up, all files on current partition are shown but the ''drive'' box is either blank or showing the current drive only. Opening up the drop box, show just a large white space. However, putting full path in the filename box is fine. Please, which file(s) handle this particular box (as different format to all other 'open' boxes) so…

2nd Q: unsafe removal detection of USB device
by Guest ntolson@gmail.com- 0 replies
Hello, I'll admit my mistake first - I stupidly removed a device from a usb hub that was working fine previously - without the safe removal option - The device is an external wifi plugin on a desktop - now it refuses to work - and seemingly doesn't allow re-installing. This device - Pheenet 802.11g USB wasn't assigned a Windows digital key - but it did load up ok the first time - all the problems stem from me pulling it from the hub. Every time I re-install, all works fine for a few minutes, then an 'unsafe device removal' box appears and the wifi box and connection disappear. I have tried re-installing / fixing with the install disk / removing drivers / diff…

No pop-up description in Windows Explorer
by Guest squarepegger- 0 replies
From the Windows Explorer menu bar, I select Tools/Folder Options.../View Tab/Advanced settings: and see that the check box labeled "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items" is CHECKED. It always has been since I installed Windows 2000. Nonetheless, I do not get pop-ups when I hover my cursor over any type of file in Windows Explorer or on my Desktop(CPU usage ~5%, hover time can be minutes). I have the desktop toolbar on my taskbar. If I progress to a file via the desktop toolbar and hover my cursor over that file, I DO get a pop-up description. I'm running Windows 2000 5.00.2195 totally up-to-date with automatic updates enabled. Why don't I …

Hi, A few days ago I asked a question regarding backup/restore software (allowing to restore entire disk images from an external USB disk when booting from a boot CD...). I saw that there are implementations of 'dd' for Windows: anybody ever experimented backups using this small utility ? Thanks. Spendius

How to Install W2K on a Modern System (Lessons Learned the Hard Way)
by Guest W. Watson- 0 replies
Learned from various sources including the thread I started here, "Can W2K Be Installed on SATA Drives?" Let me start with an explanation of "the Hard Way". I have a P5NSLI ASUS motherboard that supports both IDE and SATA controllers. The key word is "both". I wanted to install W2K on the STATA HD, a 320G WS SATA drive. I had some fun trying to get to a point where the OS install asked how I wanted to partition the drive. I was stumped by this window that came up in the install: ============================== 76294 MB Dis 0k on bus 0 on atapi C:NIFS(Drv1_main) 76003MB<6360MB Free D:FAT32(Drv1_extra) 290MB<237MB Free 131070MB Disk 0 at at 0? on?…

Unable to Copy and Paste
by Guest Dewey- 0 replies

We have a windows 2000 server with SP4 and all the latest patches running Citrix Metaframe XP. The problem is rather odd, here is a scenario: I had a zip file I wanted to extract and move to the Desktop. I created a folder named tools. I extracted the files to a directory where I wanted to keep them for future use. I then tried to copy the files from that folder to the tools folder on the desktop. When I try to move the files I get no error it just doesn't happen. I could however extract the files from WinZip to that same folder instead of moving them there through explorer. Now for the odd part. I can go to another server and access the hidden share \\co…

WinMgmt repository size, insufficient disk space or insufficientmemory, registry backup error Hi Folks: I am having trouble with the HKLM_SOFTWARE part of a registry. EMC Dantz Retrospect backup is scheduled to run at 4:04 every morning. It has been reporting errors when it tries to backup the registry. The following errors appear in the event viewer, Application Log -- 4:09 - EventID: 29 Source: WinMgmt The repository file was not the size we expected it to be. This could have been because WinMgmt crashed, the system crashed, or you did not shut your machine down cleanly. We had to delete the repository and create a new one. 4:09 - EventID: 27 …

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=. my response to the harassment -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- My first reaction in 1990/91 was to assume that if I. broke contact then they would not be able to follow. and would lose interest. So I did the things that have been suggested. by other people; I sold my television, stopped. listening to the radio and tried to withdraw away from the sources of abuse as much as possible. I. reasoned that they must have more important things to deal with and that normal people. would simply leave me alone if it were made. difficult for them to continue their harassment. Could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager Service... Error 711 In addition when using the internet wizard in attempt to connect the wizard shuts down at the referral number stage. Hi MS Native Backup terminates unexpectedly when I click on the backup wizard. However when I click on the Restore wizard I am able to see the Welcome screen. If I do not select the wizard method and go direct to Backup I am not able to selct the check boxes and thereafter it will terminate if I select any other option. Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall MS backup. Thanks.
