Re: Error 0x80070006 when configuring Win2K Server

Re: Error 0x80070006 when configuring Win2K Server I know this thread is quite old, but I have run into this same problem. The error is caused by sysocmgr that runs to install iis and other Windows components. To get rid of this error, go to the control panel, add/remove programs, add/remove Windows Components, locate the Management and Monitoring Tools. You can remove the entire thing or just the subcomponent named "Connection Manager Components". The error will go away after this point. My company is cutting cost. We want to setup a dial-up server. We have a maximum of 5 concurrent users. If I install 5 internal modems on Windows 2003 server, will 5 users be able to dial in at the same time? Do I need 5 different phone numbers or one phone number? Do I configure RAS on Windows 2003 server? Do you have any suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thumbnail View capability missing from Win 2000 Explorer.
by Guest baobob@my-deja.com- 0 replies

I have two PCs, both running W2K Build 2195 (i.e. SP4 or whatever). On one PC, Win Explorer behaves fine: - Menu item "View" lists Large Icons, Small Icons, List, Details, and Thumbnails. - Selecting Thumbnail works just fine: thumbs.db gets created and .JPG file entries display TNs. - IE 5.5 is installed. On the other PC, thumbnail capability is completely absent: - "View" has only Large Icons, Small Icons, List, and Details. - Newsnet experts say to R-click on a folder, and on the context menu's General tab, activate a "Thumbnail checkbox". There is NO such checkbox. The only checkboxes are Read-Only and Hidden. - I also tried Run-ning that install-T…

Print Processor problem, HPXPP4wm,
by Guest eidinger2000- 0 replies
We are having trouble with some HP LJ 4250s printers that are networked,They're using a PCL 6 driver. The print server is a Win2k server. The printers, Print Processor are set to "HPZPP4wm", by default. But over the last 2 months, users printing multi page jobs are having them come out last page first and they can’t print using legal paper from any tray. If I switch printer’s Print Processor to “WinPrint” everything works fine. The problem is after several weeks the “Print Processor” resets back to "HPZPP4wm" and we’re back to square one. I have seen other problems with the "HPZPP4wm" listed on the WEB. Has anyone seen this problem and does anyone have a …

Re: Task Scheduler Services Start Error Hi there, It has been awhile but I have had this symptom this week on my 2000 server, I also have a McAfee Firewall. After editing the firewall settings I noticed a block on my programs list for the MsTask servicee. After removing this block of this program I was successful in re-starting the service. I know it has been awhile but I hope you get this message, I often find that most people would have re-formated their hard disk and reloaded their O/S. Thanks for your post. D. Re: Cannot find C:\..exe. Windows needs thi file to run C:\.exe Solution to the problem: "cannot find X:/.xxxx windows needs this file to run X:/xxxxx" I know this is an old post, but I just had the same problem and through a roundabout way, found the solution in Microsofts' KnowledgeBase. I was missing, (due to a virus I think) the file ntvdm.exe in \system32, I replaced it with a copy from my cache (I did a search and found 3 different copies on my computer) and the problem is gone! It seems that this file, and some registry entries, are needed for running MS-DOS or 16-bit applications. If you are interested, a link to the KB is http://support.mic…

We lost our second DC a week ago. I installed a new DC. A few days later the only Windows '98 PC that logs into the domain gets an error indicating "the password is incorrect or they do not have permission to log into the domain." Since the only thing that changed was the new DC, I turned it off. They were able to immediately log into the domain. The first DC is named Server1 and the new DC is called DC2. Any ideas? TIA jwkh

The soruce of difficulty and final solution, along with potential scenraios dicussed along the way wer great...cut them all out and pasted into ref doc for future referral since I also use and like win2k. Was just preparing to upgrade hdds since digital photographer now. So far none were larger than 80G. I was trying to determine whether there were any limitations in win2k for HDD capacity, only clue was hits to need for updates on an ata133 pci carrd i have on hand, hadn't used to this point. Sticking with ultra ATA100 and max 120GB for now, since with upgrade to newer system in a year or so will likely be going to xp anyway. Don't want to have m…

Sharing removable drives and CD/DVR after a reboot
by Guest Level13- 0 replies

After rebooting a Windows 2000 Pro computer (or after turning it on), I always have to manually add sharing rights to CD/DVD drive as well as to any removable drive I connect (even though they were already added in previous sessions). Is there any "hack" available that would keep the "share this folder" settings for these drives as well?

Audio notifications
by Guest Paul- 0 replies
I wondered why I wasn't getting audio notification of new email, so I went to Start->Settings->ControlPanel->SoundsAndMultimediaProperties- >Sounds->SoundEvents. I clicked on NewMailNotification and Exclamation. I got the messages chime.wav and chord.wav cannot be found, then the speaker icons disappeared from beside those two items. I wanted to avoid making any more speaker icons disappear, so I didn't click on any more items. I also searched C-drive for those wav files, but they could not be found. I have since found that new mail does indeed sound a beep, due to options set in outlook. So I probably just didn't hear it before. However, a…

MI5-Persecution: Why do you think MI5 are responsible? (3374)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 0 replies
- 263 views
Why do you think MI5 are responsible? The question of who is ultimately responsible for this eight-year harassment is one which is very difficult to answer, as the persecutors have never clearly made their identities known to the persecutee. However, I believe I am correct in attributing the continuing victimisation to elements of the British Security Service MI5, and in this article, I will try to explain the reasons for this belief. The British internet magazine ".net" featured my website on page 17 of their March 1998 issue (number 42). Their review kindly describes it as an "excellent site" and gives some details of what the net surfer will find there. S…

I solved my own problem when I found PC Wizard 2008 at majorgeeks.com, unlike my previous attempts with aida32 where I couldn't ID the chipset or motherboard manufacturer PC Wizard did. However while Aida32 generates links to product info or driver downloads PC Wizard just identifies and then u have to go to work at the manufacturer's web site and use the local search engine to get the drivers. It is still a powerful tool and guide for setting up a roll-your-own or a 'mystery' second hand machine and it is freeware, no I don't work at majorgeeks and have no stake in them. Another good place for the DIY crowd is free-codecs.com or just codecs.com, whatever th…

My computer sometimes freezes coming out of standby.
by Guest Robbie Hatley- 0 replies

Greetings, group. I've been experiencing an annoying problem with my Windows 2000: I usually put my computer in "Standby" mode at night to kill fan and disk noise without wiping out contents of RAM. I prefer standby over shut-down because the computer can be shut-down and re-started MUCH faster that way. (About 2 seconds to shut down and 10 seconds to start up, as opposed to several minutes for each if I use shut-down.) The problem is, sometimes (about 20% of the time) when I push the "On" button to come out of standby mode, the computer freezes. The video doesn't come on (the monitor pilot light stays orange instead of going green), and the system doesn't …
