Open Flash USB folder like XP?
by Guest Tony- 0 replies

There's only one feature from XP that I wish Windows 2000 had - and that is automatically opening up a folder view of a newly inserted USB flash drive. By any chance, does anyone know if there is an application that will enable Windows 2000 to do that??? Thanks! Tony

Can I filter items in Start Menu Documents list?
by Guest Clueless in Seattle- 0 replies
The Documents list on the Windows 2000 Start Menu is quite a handy way to access the files I use often. But the problem is that when I play MP3s, each MP3 ends up on that list, and soon the MP3s have crowded out all of my useful files. Is there a way I can tell Windows to ignore my music files when I play them and to not add them to the Documents list? Will in Seattle a.k.a. "Clueless"

Audio Record Problem - SB Live! Basic (WDM)
by Guest pete_29119@yahoo.com- 0 replies
Hi all, I hope that someone here may be able to help me resolve my recording problem. I'm using the good ol' Creative SB Live! Basic (WDM) soundcard and for the most part it's been very reliable in the past. No conflicts listed in system information. Speakers and headphones are working fine. I can play cd's, dvd's, record and playback audio directly from cd/dvd/avi/mpg files etc.. The mic and line in work, and any sound input to the mic/line input is output through the pc speakers/headphone. Problem: I can't record audio with any of my audio apps. I even tried recording using the plain old Windows Sound Recorder, but even that won't record. The driver …

Couple of shell annoyances
by Guest Roger Fink- 0 replies

I'm having two unrelated problems with Windows Explorer that ought to be solvable. First, for the file "Loceal Settings", the checkbox for "Hidden" refuses to stay unchecked beyond more than the current session. Once the system is rebooted, the option is automatically rechecked, even though I'm the administrator this is the profile I use every day. This is true for my desktop only; my W2K laptop doesn't have this problem. Also, in the right hand pane of Windows Explorer the column heading widths can be set by right-clicking the heading, selecting "More", and then specifying in the width. The default folder/file column width is way too short, at least for me,…

MI5 are Afraid to Admit They're. Behind the Persecution MI5 have. issued a formal denial of any involvement in my life to the Security Service Tribunal, as you might expect them to; but,. more importantly, the persecutors have never denied that theyre. from the Security Service, despite several years of accusations from my corner. on usenet and in faxed articles. I am not surprised that the. Security Service Tribunal found "no determination in your favour". I. am however a little surprised that the persecutors have refused. to confirm my identification of them; by doing so, they implicitly admit that my. guess was right. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-= -= Capital Radio - Chris. Tarrant -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-= Capital Radio DJs have been "in on it". from the start. One of the first things I heard in the summer of 1990 was from a Capital DJ. who said, "If he listens to Capital then he can't be all. bad" (supportive, you see. We're not bastards). Much of what came over the radio in 1990 is now. so far away the. precise details have been obliterated by time. No diary was kept of the details,. and although archives if they exist may give pointers, the ambiguity of what broadcasters said would. leave that open to re-interpretation. In spring 1994, Chris Tarrant…

"No just-in-time debugger installed" - but there is !
by Guest Jethro- 0 replies

Hi all, running Win2000 Server, using VI6. Had no problems debugging, and (as far as I know) haven't installed anything new. Now I can't run the interdev debugger. I get an error message telling me there is no just- in-time debugger installed. However looking through the registry, all the keys seem OK (they all "join up" and all the inprocserver32 files exist.) Running C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\vsjitdebugger pulls up the same message. Have googled and found zip, so wondered if anyone else had experienced that (and hopefully fixed it), it could give me some pointers thanks in advance

Hello I have numerous desktops running windows XP who's users have a policy puching out corporate wallpaper, which requires active desktop to be enabled. The same users logon to a Win2k terminal server, and active desktop (with it being enabled for the user account) gives every user the homepage when they logon. Is it possible to have this feature disabled? I think it must be in the default user profile somehow but unsure, can someone help? Thanks

SNMP group policy update problem
by Guest Daveyji- 0 replies
Hi I have an ongoing problem which makes no sense to me. SNMP group policy updates occur every 90 minutes on a particular OU containing a number of servers. After a number of days have passed, usually a week or more SNMP security no longer allows access from a particular IP Address which is the machine we use for monitoring. Restarting the SNMP service fixes the problem for another week or two. I cannot find any changes that have been made by the update and do not understand why it works most of the time. DOes anyone have any ideas? Thanks Dave

What is the difference between "CPU Load" and "Total Memory Used" ? Our system is a file processing system which reads input file and processes it based on different conditions and writes an output file. These are several application windows services do different jobs during the processing. So far we have run only large file of 300,000 lines. We had some performance issues but finally processed it successfully. Now the target is to run files having 500,000 or even 1,000,000 lines/records. I was asked to look for any performance issues. Here I am going to brief you what the system does. 1. We receive these files via FTP. There will be a folder watcher s…

Downloads often stop at 50KB.

(I asked the following question in one of these groups several days ago, but no one knew the answer, so I'm trying again, and also posting to two different groups. (I don't normally cross-post, but in this case it seems a good idea, because this issue seems related both to Win2K and to IE6.)) I've been having a problem recently on no less than two different computers, both running Win2K and IE6: when downloading files from the Internet, the download often stops at 50KB, with Windows thinking that the download is complete, even if the actual file size was 1.38MB or 11.85MB or whatever. Once this happens once, it can take many further attempts to get the downl…

I have a setup a domain on our test bench to test some disaster recovery scenarios. It has 2 windows 2003 Sp1 servers. One server is a domain controller and the second server is an exchange server 2003. Everything was working fine. I tested a disaster recover scenario where I trashed the exchange server 2003 and then rebuilt it again to see if I could recover it. I made backups of the system state and exchange server database. I have put this exchange 2003 server back on the test domain again as part of the recovery process. The problem I have know is that I can ping the domain controller from the exchange server but I cannot do vice versa, meaning…
