Experimenting with Ad-Aware, my right-click function for the desktop went 'out of order'. I can do without, but would like to restore it, if possible. The question is 'how'? My post in the IE browser ng hasn't found any takers yet. Harry.

Reinstalling Windows Me
by Guest Dapper Dan- 9 replies

It sounded like it was too easy!! Successfully reinstalled Windows Me this morning, subsequently taking several hours downloading all the updates. In the process of downloading required utilities, I ran into a memory problem which made no sense. However I have subsequently found out that previous partitions appear to have remained, although they are not recognized in MY COMPUTER. Background: This is a 10 GB Compaq Laptop which is shipped with the O/S on the C: drive and the Recovery System on D:. A couple of years ago, I had created a new partition to house all of my data files., OE Message store, tmp and temp. Currently, MY COMPUTER shows C: at 4.86 GB an…

I tried to install a freeware utility called BurnAwareFree version. Install process was ok. When I clicked the icon to run the program. The answer is bit funny. I never had it like this before. "Program C:\Windows\msiexec.exe. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". and it closes down. Any help would be appreciated?

Hi, I have an older pc running ME. One day i was just exploring this unit and found a way to change the 'sounds' on it. I chose the 'animal' type sounds. But I just want to go back to defaults or other sounds of my choosing. I hate these monkey, tiger, jungle type sounds every time I click with my mouse somewhere for a command. ANy ideas? I am used to using my xp pc's and cant remember what I did with this one. NOTE* THis never bothered me before, but i unmuted my pc to listen to music and remembered that I still have these annoying sounds. THanks in advance

Speed Up Your Computer By Cleaning Your Registry
by Guest jeremiah wright- 0 replies
What is the registry? The registry is a database that stores information necessary to configure the system for your computers users, applications, and hardware devices. Why does it need to be cleaned (repaired)? Every time you install software on your computer, change a system setting, delete a program, all the changes are kept in the registry. Over time, your registry grows, however, it also can end up fragmented and full of unwanted registry items. These unwanted items occur by removing attributes of programs or deleting programs you no longer want without using the Add or Remove Programs function. Some programs do not always come with proper uninstall progr…

Windows Media Player-No Audio
by Guest Jerry- 5 replies

Windows Media Player for Windows Me I suddenly lost audio through Windows Media Player. It will not play my audio CDs. This is what I have done. I tried installing my Sound Blaster Live driver. It processed through until it stopped and sent this message: “File Driver6.CAB on Windows Me edition is needed.” At this point I did not know what to do next and aborted the driver installation. I then went to the Dell troubleshooting diagnostics for audio and it told me to search for the following files: midi=mmsystem.dll wave=mmsystem.dll I did a search and the files were not listed. The Dell diagnostics told me to contact my manufacturer if the fi…

Windows 9x/98SE, Me Updates/Patches/Downloads 1 2 3
by Guest BMillikan- 67 replies

I know Microsoft has removed the online support for Windows 95, 98, 98SE & ME. However, I have a ton of learning CDs for my 3-year-old and they are Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 only (some of them). So, I need to be able to get the patches/updates for Win95-WinMe somehow. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Hotfixes and Updates for Me
by Guest Justin Thyme- 12 replies

I have a six-year-old Dell with Windows Me that I would like to give to a friend or close acquaintance, but first I want to remove personal stuff like letters (no porn, nothing that shouldn't be seen by anybody, but of no business to others). I understand that the Format command will accomplish as much as I need, but Format will also remove the operating system (won't it?). I have all the CDs that came with this machine when I bought it new, so I ought to be able to restore Windows Me. But what about all the modifications that took place before MS stopped support for Me? Can I get the hotfixes, etc., that bring this computer up to the level it was when…

power-down stuck in "re-boot"...
by Guest Paul- 1 reply

hello, trying to offer some long distance help to a friend who's running ME on a P3-450. He may have inadvertently caused this problem from a windows tweak, but his computer now does not do an auto shut-down from the "start" menu, as it did before, but simply re-boots. Is there is a windows tweak that could affect this, or is it more likely a BIOS problem? thanks for any suggestions... Paul

Re: Internet connection problem In many others it has been like the dawning of the day, when at first but a little light appears, and it may be presently hid with a cloud; and then it appears again, and shines a little brighter, and gradually increases, with intervening darkness, till at length it breaks forth more clearly from behind the clouds. And many are, doubtless, ready to date their conversion wrong, throwing by those lesser degrees of light that appeared at first dawning, and calling some more remarkable experience they had afterwards, their conversion. This often, in a great measure, arises from a wrong understanding of what they have always been tau…

MI5. Persecution Update: Friday 7 April, 2000 22,544 + 837 =. 23,381 Last weekend I delivered another 837 faxes to politicians. and the media on the subject of the security service conspiracy which has destroyed. my life. This brings the total in the last three years to. at least 23,381. These totals do not include partially delivered. faxes. Some of the recipients of these faxes must. know that what I say is true; and I hope to motivate those people to acknowledge. the reality of the harassment which has followed me for ten. years. Transformation of files 1 2
by Guest webster72n- 42 replies

At one time or another some data files in my documents folder were 'converted' from their 'original' status to individual JPEG and GIF images and JScript Files, which I would have to 'find an association for'. I am using FoxitReader and AdobeAcrobat 6 interchangeably, could that have caused it? If so, (or if not), what (other) remedy is there? Hoping for a miracle... Harry.

Help, my WinME System Restore has no 'Create a Restore Point' option... I know this is incredibly late to notice but it is true. I see no option to (manually) create a Restore Point. I do get "automatic" creation of restore points usually once a day, occasionally twice, occasionally none. I thought that was a bit odd but it has "worked" for me so far. In thelast 3 months I have used Restore points 3 or 4 times to recover from odd ball system (Near Death Experience) behavior I finally got to checking Andy Rathbone's Microsoft Windows Me For DUMMIES, both volumes, and it is pretty clear that I should. In the first 5 or more years I've been using this comp…
