M`I 5-Pe rsecution . why th e secu rity s ervices?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -= why the security. services? -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You may ask, why do I think the "they" referred to are. the security services? Is there any evidence that there is a single source, as. opposed to a loosely based. "whispering campaign" amongst many people? Even if there is. a single source, is there any evidence that "they" are professional "buggers" as opposed to amateurs, or perhaps people. working for a privately funded. organization? a) As to the question. of a single source versus something more fragmented; it is quite obvious that there is a single source. from the way the campaign has been carried. ou…

I know Microsoft has removed the online support for Windows 95, 98, 98SE & ME. However, I have a ton of learning CDs for my 3-year-old and they are Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 only (some of them). So, I need to be able to get the patches/updates for Win95-WinMe somehow. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Transformation of files 1 2

At one time or another some data files in my documents folder were 'converted' from their 'original' status to individual JPEG and GIF images and JScript Files, which I would have to 'find an association for'. I am using FoxitReader and AdobeAcrobat 6 interchangeably, could that have caused it? If so, (or if not), what (other) remedy is there? Hoping for a miracle... Harry.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -= my. response to the harassment -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- My first reaction in 1990/91 was. to assume that if I broke contact then they would not be able to follow and. would lose interest. So I did the things that have been suggested by other people;. I sold my television, stopped listening to the radio and tried to. withdraw away from the sources of abuse as much as possible. I reasoned that they must. have more important things to deal with and that normal people would simply leave me alone. if it were made difficult. for them to continue their harassment. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-= -=. Capital Radio - Chris Tarrant -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-= Capital Radio DJs have been "in on it". from the start. One of the first things I heard in the summer of 1990 was from a Capital DJ who said,. "If he listens to Capital then he can't be all bad" (supportive, you see.. We're not bastards). Much of what came over the radio in 1990 is now so. far away the precise details. have been obliterated by time. No diary was kept of the details,. and although archives if they exist may give pointers, the ambiguity of what broadcasters said would leave that open. to re-interpretation. This brings the total in the last three years to. at least 23,381. These totals do not include partially delivered. faxes. The Problems of Registry Cleaners
by Guest O.J. Newman- 16 replies

Hello: As was discussed in a recent thread here, registry cleaners can do more harm than good. There are 2 recent articles on this topic in the Usenet group "microsoft.public.windowsxp.general" , under the thread subjects of "Which Registry Cleaner" and "reg cleaners". Both reflected the recent postings in this newsgroup to avoid registry cleaners altogether. One post referenced an interesting forum thread at: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 , which discussed the many problems that such utilities can cause. FYI. Cheers, O.J.

Slow XP Computer
by Guest jeremiah wright- 3 replies

Most of us have a slow XP computer. We bought it recently, and have done nothing in the way of keeping it cleaned. We have bigger hard drives, so we store more stuff. And the more stuff we store, the larger the chance is we are getting bogged down. And since we are always deleting files, creating new files, installing software, and uninstalling software, we are going to have some issues where the computer gets overloaded with the data on it, and the result is a slow XP computer. Good news, though! There is a simple fix. But before I tell you about it, let me go over some of the typical solutions you may hear. Update the Windows system: You should do this. But th…

I'm thinking of changing from wired to wireless and would like some clarification from the experts in the NG. Currently I have a Desktop connected by wire in an Office and a laptop connected by wire in another room. A new laptop is replacing the old laptop but because it has 802.11 b,g,n, I'm thinking of going wireless and when I say that I mean the Desktop would probably remained "wired" but the laptop would go wireless. From what I understand I should purchase an "N' Router but these vary significantly in price. So I'm looking for input in terms of what I should be considering. Specifically, we are connected via cable with download speeds up to 8 Mbps. …

WU v4 for WinMe
by Guest Mart- 19 replies

For those who need to know - and are still interested - the Windows Updates for WinMe are still currently available at the MS WinMe WU site, in spite of being out of Support by some 18 months. Just did a Clean Install (failed HDD) and all 10+ Critical Updates/Service Packs and 45+ WinMe updates (inc. some 34 language fixes) are there. Using broadband, it wasn't very much slower than using the MS Security CD (2004) and all (seemingly) installed in their correct sequence. Let's hope that MS keep them available for a few more years yet. It would be a shame to pull them for the sake of a few hundred MB or so of web space. Have noticed also that the KB art…

Anyone had experience interchanging/cobbling together NT file systems or HP file system(s) on NT4s, win9X, winME, NT5, win2K XP etc? Do windows file system managers at some point operate with COM? (I doubt that win95 did but the others might?) I know a little of Partition Magic as I have version (7) which I hear is now OBE. I am hoping to find something I can control from a C/C++ or VB program. Any information along these lines, links and such, would be much appreciated. HTH and Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays

IE Caution = eBay Toolbar + Ssdpsrv
by Guest Bob- 4 replies

Just a note with a caution about eBay toolbar. I find that blocking Ssdpsrv service to eBay often puts my winME 1.1 GHZ Athlon (Sempron?) into a kernel processing loop which is a real drag on the system. The Process Viewer Application that came ages ago with MS VC 4 will easily kill this eBay service and fix the problem until the next Internet Explorer session is started. I use ie6.0. How can I control what services IE launches?
