Ever since I set up a wireless router, Zone Alarm has not recorded one attempted intrusion. Prior to the router, there were usually dozens. Is the router's security/encryption (WPA) blocking the intrusions before they get to Zone Alarm?? tia

If you are reading this article then you have probably come to the point where your computer has started to show declined performances and possibly become less functional. Unfortunately this will happen to almost every PC user who uses their computer frequently and changes software and hardware over time. There really is nothing more annoying than having a problematic computer which restricts your ability to work or play games and most of the time these problems arise as a result of registry errors. The registry is a database which stores all important information regarding software and hardware related setting in the form of keys. As time passes and your pc beco…

Just a Hello

I haven't stuck my head in here much in a LONG time. (Probably a bit over a year ago.) So, well, I figured I'd stick my head in and say hi. I don't even have an ME image in a VM to play with, I suppose I could set one up but I'm lazy. I'll take this moment in time to remind everyone that Friday is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Anywho... Remember, an appropriately threatened PC is scared and will have fewer errors meaning you have to kick it less often. -- Galen (Not Current MS-MVP) My Geek Site: http://kgiii.info Web Hosting: http://whathostingshould.be "In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backw…

WMP9 beta
by Guest Arturo Seis- 3 replies

It was some years ago now I made a joke when talking with Noel, here, on the subject of WMP series 9 beta, about having ripped Surrealistic Pillow which was being reported as 1000x larger than it was. I said something like not realizing I'd actually downloaded the band itself! The implication being, of course, the code of a Human being in the multi-gigabytes. Well now we have thousand gigabyte HDDs that fit the same bay as back then could (probably) only hold about 60. I only have 160G available (2 of them in a RAID 1 array) though this is plenty for my purposes - more than half of that space is dedicated for backup images (which are themselves duplicated in RA…

Microsoft windows operating system is widely used for all the personal and business purposes worldwide. It has the most acclaimed and user- friendly interface frequently upgrading and maximizing the performance and utility from time to time. The windows registry is used to store settings and options in the operating system for all 32-bit versions of the windows operating system. hello all: Recently running into probem with cdrw drive. It is not recognizing any of recorded / or even fresh cdrw discs. Only response upon insertion of any disc and attempt is made to access contents: "please insert disc" etc. Recently I have begun using CC Cleaner to clean out invalid reg entries and other stuff. Have run regscan with no errors showing. Have been using Roxio Easy CD Creator - reinstalled same. Also tried removing cdrw drive in Device Mgr - but after deleting drive and re-starting windows there is no notice of new hardware found when re-booting. Has registry cleaner somehow screwed up communication between drive and system - ? …

Re-installing on laptop with no CD drive
by Guest Alpha- 14 replies

We need to re-install Windows 98 SE or ME or 2K-Pro on a laptop that has its CD drive internal connection damaged. The floppy drive works though. We have all the original Windows CDs and a Win98 boot floppy, as well as all the required drivers. The unit originally had Win98 on it that was later upgraded to WinME and subsequently to Win2K-Pro. Can we - take out the hard drive and format it (using appropriate existing adapters) in FAT on another machine and - copy the CD contents and device drivers to an install folder, and - put that drive back into the laptop, and - boot with the Win98 floppy, and - run Setup from the install folder, bypassing the CD drive? …
