Registry Defragmenters
by Guest O.J. Newman- 22 replies
Hello: There have been a few threads recently on the use of registry cleaners. While some people like them and have not had any bad experiences with them, the consensus seems to be that such tools should be avoided by inexperienced users. I have also seen registry defragmenter utilities available, both as part of commercial software, as well as shareware and freeware. Does the advice to avoid registry cleaners also apply to registry defragmenters - that is to avoid them? Is it best simply to not touch the registry (other than using a tool like System Restore)? Thanks, O.J.

XP from ME

Hello all.. I have a maybe stupid question, but I really dont know the answer.. I have been running Windows ME for years now with very few issues.. But I just think its time for me to move on to XP..ME is too difficult to find any help or answers for these days. My question is.. What is the best way to do this? Is it best to simply "upgrade" to XP from ME, or to delete ME altogether and install a fresh copy of XP? This is new to me and I will have to do this myself so what is the best way to go about this? I just want to be sure that I wind up with a fresh installation of Windows XP and nothing else with it Thanks to everyone in advance! You can complai…

I know lavasoft Ad-Aware SE as we knew it for years is no longer available. Now their site advertise Ad-Aware 2008... not entirely sure if this is a "free" or "trial". Can someone shed some light, and if not really free, suggest a replacement. Thanks. Paul -- cogito ergo sum

Kernel32.dll error
by Guest sharontango- 20 replies
- 1.5k views
In my other ME machine, when I try to download an attachement, I get this error message {Iexplore has caused an error in the Kernel32.dll. Iexplore will now closed} Although there are many articles/solutions to the kernel32.dll, none seems to describe my situation. I try to follow the suggestion from { http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?kernel32} but it seems I cannot install or replace/rename the kernel32.dll file as the old one being in use. How can I rectify this error then, thanks

MI5-Persecution: Why do you think MI5 are responsible? (2369)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 20 replies
- 949 views
Why do you think MI5 are responsible? The question of who is ultimately responsible for this eight-year harassment is one which is very difficult to answer, as the persecutors have never clearly made their identities known to the persecutee. However, I believe I am correct in attributing the continuing victimisation to elements of the British Security Service MI5, and in this article, I will try to explain the reasons for this belief. The British internet magazine ".net" featured my website on page 17 of their March 1998 issue (number 42). Their review kindly describes it as an "excellent site" and gives some details of what the net surfer will find there. S…

WU v4 for WinMe
by Guest Mart- 19 replies

For those who need to know - and are still interested - the Windows Updates for WinMe are still currently available at the MS WinMe WU site, in spite of being out of Support by some 18 months. Just did a Clean Install (failed HDD) and all 10+ Critical Updates/Service Packs and 45+ WinMe updates (inc. some 34 language fixes) are there. Using broadband, it wasn't very much slower than using the MS Security CD (2004) and all (seemingly) installed in their correct sequence. Let's hope that MS keep them available for a few more years yet. It would be a shame to pull them for the sake of a few hundred MB or so of web space. Have noticed also that the KB art…

wireless on ME
by Guest Nicdig- 19 replies

Hi, I was having trouble with my USB wireless adapter but just found the culprit with the help of Trend net tech support. THe wireless program was showing my network at 100% signal. But would not let me connect to the internet. They suggested I disable my ZOnealarm and AVG free edition and sure enough, I was able to open Internet explorer pages and even type this post. I ENABLED the AVG virus and all good. SO I think the culprit was my firewall (ZA).... So, I am uncomfortable having my firewall disabled. Can anyone recommend a free firewall that is user freindly and perhaps would not interfere with the wireless connection. Maybe I can change settings on my ZA to…

hello all,, specially heather the 'hill roaming tourist'. hi guys, if you recall, i mentioned a couple of weeks ago that i was having problems getting adaware updated, it would get to 5% then simply say Error. since then i have re-installed it many times, but i still get the same flipping error,,,,,,,,, its like a boomerang, just keeps coming back. as it stands now, it seems i am 794days out of whack with updates,, which is to naturally be expected after new install. am i missing something, or is it now impossible to use adaware unless one updates to the 'troublesome' 2007 version??? i refuse to put this one on due to the many problems i've hear…

Security Software for ME
by Guest Lynn Quinlan- 17 replies

Hi there, Sorry to say I've asked this question before but have mislaid the answer. Can you give me recommendations for various packages to run on a 7-year-old Win ME system that are free? I'm looking for: Antivirus Antispyware/Malware Pop-up blocker/ad blocker Antiphishing Firewall Anything else I should have installed to keep this system secure. Would I be better running FireFox rather than IE6? This is a 433 MHz Celeron system with 192 MB of RAM. Also, need to clean this system up. What would you recommend for defragmenting and removing left-over files? Any other suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you! Lynn

Loss of internet service.
by Guest Maddogcf7- 17 replies

I have Charter high speed connected to my Windows ME. Last Friday we had thunderstorms and I have completely lost my internet service. My modem is still receiving signal, but my computer and modem will not connect. Charter has tried to help, but to no avail, especially since I'm using USB cable. My computer is not even showing an IP address now and I'm stuck. I have to have this thing going and can't presently afford a new one. Any suggestions?

Has anyone using Ad-aware SE noticed when the programs loads the last two latest de files have been corrupt? I've not change the way I've gotten the file nor the way I extract the file. Haven't change download managers so I know for sure that can't be it. I even tried two different sites with no luck.
