Free version of Acronis v8 1 2
by Guest O.J. Newman- 26 replies

Hello: Here's an item from the Win 98 general newsgroup that may be of interest to some. Acronis True Image v8 supports Win 98 thru XP, including ME. However, while it supports ATA drives, it may not support SATA drives. I'm not sure. It seems to be a multi-step process, to fill out the request in the link below, then to fill out a free registration form, and then to login and download the free version of Acronis v8 from the list of registered software, but it does work. Cheers, O.J. "Rick Chauvin" <justask@nospamz.com> wrote in message news:OGLkByavIHA.1236@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Here's a real treat.... > > Free version of…

by Guest sascha- 15 replies

just found this guys amazing page, http://www.mdgx.com/wme.htm it has a ton of information on all windows os and offers free updates even for now "dead" Windows. Like this one here : a ServicePack for ME which does improve both stability and speed : direct download: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MESP1.EXE , english ME editions . and a "hacked" XP MediaPlayer 10 (!) for 98SE and ME is to be found there too among so much more., of course all this is not MS authorised and all total unsupported. But this is a way to keep a ME machine a bit longer in use than MS had planned it for us. Note : the page is not my page and I am in no way involved. Enjoy it…

Upgrade nvidia 5200 to nvidia 6200 OC, interested in a hot new intelmob for $100+- ... Ogg, Mike M, and all those still interested I just ran across your conversation thread from July 31, 2007 that is close to a problem I’m having. I upgraded to the Nvidia 5200 several months back and had good results with it for a couple months. Then it began to fail in odd ways so I upgraded it to the BFG Tech version of “Nvidia GeForce 6200 OC.” This works well except if / when my system starts to go to sleep and puts up the screen saver, it will lock up. The only way to get it back is to cycle power. Can someone give me the skinny on how to surmount? I don't even r…

by Guest Martin Murray- 1 reply

My wife has Windows ME on her system and I am running XP. We need a printer with ME drivers so are thinking of the Canon Pixma 160. Anyway, if we get that and I attach it to my system as a shared printer and give her permissions, etc., should she be able to use that via the network using ME? Thanks in advance, Martin Murray

The newer ver. 4.1 of SpywareBlaster is available. Recommended course of action: 1. Download ver. 4.1. 2. Disable all protection of ver. 4.0. 3. Uninstall ver. 4.0 via Add/Remove Programs. 4. Install ver. 4.1 and enjoy. A request for donations is always attached. Harry.

Microsoft Word Viewer
by Guest Dapper Dan- 2 replies

I have a friend still with Windows Me who cannot open Microsoft Office documents. I have searched the Microsoft website for a Word Viewer but the oldest I can find appears to be Word Viewer 2003 which doesn't appear compatible with Windows Me. Before installing Office, I used to have Word Viewer 1997 but not surprisingly, it doesn't appear to be available on Microsoft website. Anybody know where I can find a reliable copy or alternatively whether Word Viewer 2003 would work with Windows Me. Thanks Dan

Maybe I'm missing something. After cleaning up my different programs for viruses and malwares, I'm wondering if I'm out of touch. I have SpywareGuard V.2.2.0.1 which dates from 2002 and when trying to update, I'm told that its up to date?? On the other hand I had SpywareBlaster V.3.5.0.1. which I could update to V.4 Since both run in the background I didnt pay too much attention to these two both from Javacoolsoftware.com Am I barking up the wrong tree?? Sorry for this stupid question. Mabe I shouldnt go away for so long... Paul -- cogito ergo sum

Has anyone using Ad-aware SE noticed when the programs loads the last two latest de files have been corrupt? I've not change the way I've gotten the file nor the way I extract the file. Haven't change download managers so I know for sure that can't be it. I even tried two different sites with no luck.

My pc is brain dead, trying to do most any thing gives me a Microsoft Internet Explorer message "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly" And in fact pages don't disply anything. I feel I lost needed files when I found keystroke software and had to reboot to finish removal using XSPY spyware software. I also haven't been able to find any of my software that came with my sony vaio, or the boot up disk I made years ago. any idea's would be appretiated

Re: Free version of Acronis v8 OJ: One thank you isn't enough for providing the info to this program, so I am giving you a special thank you with this message. After activating Acronis, I was overwhelmed by the 'beauty' of this utility, in every aspect and only wish to have had access to it sooner. The outstanding feature is the speed at which the image was created, less than 20 minutes for drive C, that's astounding to me. It is understandable to me to offer it for free, because it most likely will lead to purchasing the upgrade. With gratitude, Harry.

Free Year of CA Antivirus

Saw this today on the antivirus group......but I doubt that I will go back to it. Confusing as Avast can be at times, I think I prefer their detection rate and the fact that it always updates.......not like CA. But it is worthwhile knowing it is out there. RE: Problem with computer freezing while using IE 6

RE: Problem with computer freezing while using IE 6 In case you're interested: I had posted back in late March that I was having problems with a 7- year-old IBM Netvista constantly freezing while using Internet Explorer 6. I sent the motherboard off to http://www.badcaps.net to have the capacitors replaced at a cost of $65 for 'standard' capacitors. This has been one of the best decisions that I've ever made. The computer very rarely freezes now. Usually it's because there's a problem with a particular website or I've got too many things open. I just wanted to say that http://www.badcaps.net did really good work for what's turned out to be a very r…

DST revisited

Food for thought! Even though an off-topic, I thought it to be worthwhile mentioning. According to native american wisdom this analogy holds quite a bit of water: When told the reason for daylight saving time, the old Indian said: "Only white man would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom of it, and then have a longer blanket." WinME internal use of ports?
by Guest Greegor- 2 replies
I've been using Tiny Personal Firewall, AVG and Spybot S&D resident. I keep seeing various programs that are part of Windows attempting to access IP addresses and ports that do not make sense to me. One of the programs was an AVG file itself, but trying to talk to some stange IP address when nothing like that should have been taking place. I suspect something has burrowed into AVG itself. Has this sort of thing been known to happen? Is the autochk program supposed to talk to 255.255.255.255 to request my own dynamic address? My immediate question is this: What programs should be accessing what IP addresses? Scandisk shouldn't have to access …

Windows ME and Hotmail??????
by Guest Lone Star- 3 replies

What to do!! Around June 30, Outlook Express can no longer be used to access Hotmail accounts. Microsoft says to install Windows Live Mail, which is not compatible with WinME. Nice. Does anyone have any reasonable workarounds for accessing Hotmail with ME, other than using the web interface? Or is this just another chip into the life of WinME.... EW
