Daylight Savings Time 1 2 3

I had completely forgot about DST when I reinstalled Windows ME a few months back. Today I downloaded a copy of TZEDIT and went through the procedure of resetting DST, including the last 2 instructions of selecting a different time zone in DATE/TIME (Control Panel) and then reselecting the proper time zone. For some reason, it's not catching. Any ideas?

Lock desktop
by Guest Bill Leary- 6 replies

Is there a means, even third party, to lock the icons on the desktop so they can't be moved or deleted and no new ones can be added? I'm dealing with a user who likes to "play" with the desktop and I keep having to make service calls because things are messed up, duplicated, or missing. - Bill

Connect via dialup
by Guest Corday- 7 replies

Modem works fine (can fax etc.). Under add/delete programs/windows resources "Communications" 6.3 meg is grayed out and when opened shows 0.0 megs for phone/ dial up options. Can't connect to Internet (I'm on a different computer now). Tried to open a new TCP/IP protocol, but it always reverts to only the non-address ones already installed. Port 110 is probably where everything works from (or not?). -- Corday

forced adapter update now Error: 0D : 0347 : 000181C

I replaced a GeForce4 MX440 a Kaser FX5200 128 MB Nvidia graphic card. It's box says it has some nice Nview Multi-Display capabilities and "TV-out support (NTSC/PAL) TV system". Will it support a decent flatscreen? I keep System Monitor on and lately began seeing the system "ekg" flatlining for about 10 seconds, then resuming for 10 seconds, and so on. Also recently an occasional black screen on the monitor it shares over a KVM switch it has shared for years. Monitor & switch probably OK since they act normal with the XP system I'm building. Now I'm seeing blue screens right after logging in, error: 0D : 0347 : 000181C. My googling turms up corrupt prog…

InstallShield problem
by Guest George J. Wallace- 15 replies

Hi; About 2 weeks ago, while dl'ing new defs for Spybot S&D, a newer version of Spybot began to self-install. Without thinking (which is the cause of most of my problems!), I let it proceed. Halfway thru, it choked. I dl'ed the new version and successfully installed it but it brought my system to a crawl, so I uninstalled it and re-installed the older version. Since then, I can't install any other programs. I get the following message: Setup Initialization Error Setup has detected that unInstallShield is in use. Please close unInstallShield and restart setup. Error 432 Using Process Explorer, I don't see unInstallShield running so I guess…

Security Software for ME
by Guest Lynn Quinlan- 17 replies

Hi there, Sorry to say I've asked this question before but have mislaid the answer. Can you give me recommendations for various packages to run on a 7-year-old Win ME system that are free? I'm looking for: Antivirus Antispyware/Malware Pop-up blocker/ad blocker Antiphishing Firewall Anything else I should have installed to keep this system secure. Would I be better running FireFox rather than IE6? This is a 433 MHz Celeron system with 192 MB of RAM. Also, need to clean this system up. What would you recommend for defragmenting and removing left-over files? Any other suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you! Lynn

Do You Have A Slow Running Computer?
by Guest jeremiah wright- 10 replies
Your computer was running fine, and now all of a sudden it is terrible slow. Sometimes the program just locks up, and will not work. Other times, the entire computer freezes. You know, the point where you must hold the power button down for 5 seconds to shut the machine off. Or, if you are running earlier versions of Windows, the infamous Blue Screen of Death appears. All of these are signs something is wrong with the internals of the computer, and this is causing you to have a slow computer. Think back, and see if you can remember installing something or uninstalling something since the computer starting acting funny. Most likely, you did. It might have even be…

Reinstall
by Guest webster72n- 0 replies

My BelarcAdvisor reminds me to 'Reinstall' UPD323255 and UPD811630, two 'Hotfixes'. I managed to find them on WU, download and then install them to C:\. That probably should have been C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\, because it doesn't show in BA. I am able to locate the files, but what to do with them in order to replace the old ones? Clicking on the provided link in BA didn't bring the desired results. Neither did dragging them to the 'place of the old ones'. I am hoping... Harry.
