One day past due (02/27/2008), with a total of 49664 immunizations for ME. You may want to immunize twice after the download, to remove 'all' unprotected items in 'immunization' before scanning. Harry.

Thumbnails not working in Windows Explorer
by Guest Ken G.- 9 replies

Thumbnails have stopped working. The option to view thumbnails appears in Windows Explorer but for some reason it no longer shows the thumbnails, just an icon. It used to work and I can't think of any changes I've made that would do this. Can anyone help?

AdAware SE & 2007
by Guest Fred S *****- 8 replies
I have a friend using AdAware SE (free edition) I'm checking here because the new AdAware 2007 version appears to be only for Windows XP or Vista - NOT Win98, nor WinME. On the other hand, while the AdAware site says they are no longer supporting AAW SE after December 2007, there are Ref files for January and February. I've posted a request for info in the AAW forums but no replies so far. I'm asking here as I know there are many users here that are facing this issue too. Does anyone still use AAW SE? Are web updates working on WinME? IF not, do manual updates work? Thanks, Fred

display adapter issue
by Guest SSJ04 Mewtwo- 4 replies
I have an ATI rage fury pro/xpert 2000 pro display adaptor, at least that's what the device manager tells me. On occasion, during warm reboots, the machine will lose the display driver during the reboot. It'll get past the Windows's screen and when the desktop is supposed to start loading, the screen is black. Rebooting again will make the system go into the startup menu after the Windows splash screen. It doesn't matter which option you choose because it'll go straight into safe mode. Once it loads the wallpaper the display properties will come up and I can change to high color 16 bit. After the prompt to restart the machine will act fine again and I c…

Re: Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express 6 Service Pack X-post to WinME General > I reinstalled ME and other (essential) updates... Did you uninstall IE6 SP1 /prior/ to reinstalling WinME? My question notwithstanding: Go to Windows Update website | Select CUSTOM and scan | Uncheck (deselect) KB837009 and "hide" it. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Coen wrote: > Dear all, > > I read and tried all what has been said about this issue, I still have > essential update kb837009 been offered. > I reins…

Time for a new operating system?? 1 2
by Guest squirltok@yahoo.com- 43 replies

I used winme just until a little after they stopped offering support and they admitted, at the very end, that it was a dud that cannot be secured. I found windows2000 that I like and is supported but how about trying Linux and give up the spyware virus magnet, especially on a system that cannot even be secured in the first place. Try PcLinux, get the minime version. Simply download the ISO file and burn it to a CD with DeepBurner and set your BIOS to boot fropm the CD drive and reboot. Use the system from your hard drive and decide if you like it or not. If you like it install it.

AdAware SE Personal Build 1 2
by Guest Dapper Dan- 27 replies

I just read the tail end of the recent thread regarding AdAware SE and would appreciate if someone wouldn't mind taking a few minutes more and clarifying this for me. My version of AdAware is SE1R210.27.12.2007. Any time I check for updates I'm told that I am up to date. A visit to the Lavasoft website explains that support for this version expired December 31, 2007 but that I should replace it with AdAware 2007. The problem is that 2007 requires Windows 2000 or better. Mike has explained to Heather that Lavasoft has fixed the problem with the dated definitions and that she can download new definitions for AdAware SE from the Lavasoft site. I do indeed see w…

Rhyme but no Reason to System Restore points deletion 1 2
by Guest Bob- 31 replies

'opefully there is still time for me to learn to control our WinMe computer. I've noticed since I got to messing around with it, that System Restore points dissappearing for no reason I was aware of. I don't run some of the Disk Cleaning Utilities nearly as much as I used to. I used to Defragment alot (every night) because I had seen how disk (file) fragmentation can degrade system response time. Back then I never used System Restore points - was barely aware they existed. It also seemed I never needed them. Nowadays things have changed (Dunno why / wish I did) System Restore points can really save your system. In these circumstances, I am pretty sure th…

Hibernate & Garbage Collection & Finer Points
by Guest Bob- 2 replies
My oh my, the activity on this group seems to be getting thin like my hair... When you "hibernate" primarily for garbage collection ( the analog to memory as scandisk is for disk), one would rather not have their system take a nap. One just wants ME to clean up its used-memory and unused memory linked lists and then let the user do what ever they want. Unfortunately, as the name of the mode says, one will have to hibernate until taking the few steps required to wake up from hibernation. Those steps might easily take a minute or two. (On our computer, I have to go get a finger nail clipper but that's another story). I know everybody (except me, apparently)…

Network issue
by Guest Tymauk- 4 replies
Hi I have a problem with an old laptop that I want to set up with my wireless broadband connection. The problem that I have (I think) is that I am missing 'My network Places' and also missing the IEEE802.1x network protocol. The wireless USB adapter is a brand new Safecom one and works fine on my other laptop, which has the 2 missing items above, so it rules out the adapter. The adapter finds my connection and links up fine, but I cannot get any web pages. Any ideas?? Many thanks TK
