I just bought the XP Pro X64 software and I am trying to install it on my PC. I am switching from XP home to X64 so I know that I will have to format my old drive and install a fresh copy of the X64. When I try to boot from the CD I get a weird error message. It says "File \AMD64\NTKRNLMP.EXE COULD NOT BE LOADED The Error code is 7" I have a qx6600 processor. What should I do ? Did they make a version for AMD and one for Intell ?

Switching from XP Pro X64 to Vista X64
by Guest Denise- 8 replies

In the last 2 post that I started, I mentioned problems that I'm having finding drivers and programs for XP Pro X64. I'm strongly considering buying Vista X64. I know that I'll have to update drivers but is there anything else that I'll need to do. Will my hardware components work with Vista X64 since they work with XP Pro X64? -- Denise

Intel Raid Drivers for D975XBX Motherboard
by Guest Lawrence E. Oliver- 8 replies

I have a computer with the Intel D975XBX Motherboard in it (not the XBX2). This has 4 Intel Sata connections & 4 Silicon Images Sata connections. I plan to load Vista x64 on this system and run it with Raid 1 on my disks. The raid F6 disks that came with it do not have Vista Drivers on them. I have gone to the Intel Website and downloaded the raid F6 files for the Silicon Images Sata connections; but, there appear to be no raid F6 drivers for the Intel Sata connections. Has anyone installed Vista on this motherboard using Raid? If so, what drivers did you use and where did you get them? I'm referring to the Raid drivers for the Intel connections.…

A little help from my friends!
by Guest Carlos- 4 replies

This is a sharing issue but I hope my buddies will be able to help me. I have 3 hard disks in my PC. One is standalone SATA (I:) and there's where I keep my documents, favorites and e-mail. The two others are raid-0 SATA, having Vista in Primary Partition C: and 4 other partitions for different tasks. (D:, E:, F: G:) So far I have been sharing in my home network only one folder in the standalone disk (I:). I can access to that folder from the other PCs by having added the user "Guest" ("Invitado" in Spanish) in the sharing options. When working locally on that folder I have full R/W rights and when accessing remotely I can only read. So far so good. Now …

Flash install notes for Vista
by Guest Carlos- 0 replies

I came accross this interesting article regarding problems when running Adobe's Flash in both Vistas (x86 and x64). http://www.ocmodshop.com/ocmodshop.aspx?a=1201 Essentially what the author claims is that, if you have recurring prompts for installing Flash even if you did a zillion times, you might want to try this: "For Vista (32 bit): Open File Explorer Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash Right-click on FlashUtil9f (or whatever version you downloaded) Select Run as Administrator If you haven't turned UAC off, then you'll get a prompt. Let the wizard install Enjoy Flash For Vista x64: Open File Explorer Navigate to C:\Windows\S…

Tony was right again!
by Guest Carlos- 11 replies

One of most recommended fixes by Tony is to upgrade (flash) your BIOS to the latest version in case of strange troubles. I helped one friend of mine who could not add a second DDR-667 2 gigs memory stick to his brand new Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS motherboard (Vista x64). 2 gigs DDR-667, Vista would boot Ok. 4 gigs DDR-667, Vista would BSOD on boot. His BIOS was ver F3 so I downloaded the latest one, a.k.a. v F6. And that was it! Vista is now happy with 4 gigs. Carlos

i've got xp pro x86, and i'd like to get x64. i don't, however, want to re-purchase the whole thing (by next monday, no less). i remember hearing about a way to acquire xp pro x64 for a nominal fee rather than paying the full 150$ for the new software. is that still in effect? was it ever in effect? how would i go about upgrading if i didn't want to spend that much money?

Hi, thanks all for your help. I have an OEM version of 64 bit home pro, and don't get support from microsoft...Thats lame. Anyway I have several devices I have installed: a logitech trackball, WD sata HDD, and unknown. these devices all work properly and are in device manager, detected and working fine with drivers installed. If i choose install later, there is no problem. If I choose find drivers, Vista will not find them, even if I put in the disk, or direct it in a browse to the proper location. If I say dont install I will do it later, the divice stops functioning. I am prompted to install an update, and when I download it, I am told it does not apply …

Dual Opteron 2.2 Ghz performance.
by Guest John John (MVP)- 7 replies

I'm being offered a Dual Opteron 2.2Ghz box at about $300. The machine comes with a SCSI controller/drive and with 3 GB RAM, but is capable of handling up to 16GB. The machine is in good working condition and I'm thinking that at $300 it's almost a giveaway. I'm thinking I may get the box as a "toy" and install an x64 version on it. Anyone here familiar with dual Opeterons? Are those dual 2.2 Ghz worth a try? John

Lost Vista games
by Guest Sam Steinhauser- 11 replies

I have wrecked Vista Ultimate x64 to the point of my games and Windows features not working. I have a Intel 965 chipset with ICH8R and run 3 Raptors in a RAID 5 config. I have a 4th. drive, 80gb Barracuda, for Linux and storage. I got a wild hair to try Slackware. After what I felt was a productive couple of hours learning about Linix fdisk and getting a root and swap partition set up I managed to write over my second drive of the RAID config. I run the Windows Vista disk repair utlitly a couple of times to no avail and them realized what Slackware had done to my middle drive. I unplugged the middle drive and it booted to vista and started rebuilding the …

vista 64 - mouse pointer stuck in top left corner of screen
by Guest liquidstool- 5 replies

hey all yesterday i had to reinstall vista due to hdd failure, i reinstalled no problems and to reward myself thought i'd play call of duty, excellent no problems there. Today i thought i'd kick some butt again and now disaster! My mouse pointer refuses to move from the top left corner of the screen on the main menu of call of duty. I also tried Call of duty UO and lo, the same problem - not happy. I've made no changes to anything, other than downloaded and installed SP1 after my game last night. I don't know if it's anything to do with my screen settings, currently the resolution is set to 1680x1050 but i'm sure that yesterday it was set 20…

Well, I keep hearing good things about this, and I'm curious so here I go. Only, even in the initial steps it refuses to allow me to download from Avast, each time I try and add it to the trusted zone (that is what I think I'm doing?) I'm back at the download link which connects to a different server from which I am then barred because it is not listed as a trusted zone - and so on 'ad infinitum'. Tony. . .

Enable/Disable driver signature
by Guest Ray- 3 replies
This should be made an option rather than an imposition. I know there are certain advantages of using it but it should be my decision if I want to use an unsigned driver or not. I installed Vista64 because i believed a phrase I saw at microsoft.com saying Vista64 was great for gamers. Well, us gamers sometimes like to modify/patch our systems. In my case I bought a USB mouse which will fail to read all my movements if I use the default USB driver which runs @ ~125MHz (standard USB speed). But I can modify this usb driver so it will allow my USB port to run @ 1000MHz. Thus making my mouse superior to almost any other mouse model in the market right now. …
