Slow copying of files
by Guest James R- 8 replies

We have a problem copying files from Windows Server 2003 64-bit to our local desktops running Windows XP. For a large number of the desktops, a file copy of 60 Mb from the server to the local drive can take about 30 minutes to complete. For other desktops of the same OS, the same file can be copied in about 5 seconds. For the ones the copy slowly, they can copy that same file from a Windows 2003 32-bit server or another desktop in 5 seconds. We have even moved PCs around to swap the network ports used and the problem follows the PC. We have standardized our desktop and server hardware so the problem should point to something in the software. There is some…

Running 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate. The 64 bit browser works fine, but whenever I use the 32 bit browser (necessary to view some sites) all of a sudden I started getting the following message: ieuser.exe - bad image c:\\windows\syswow64\msfeeds.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error If I say ok to the error message the page continues to load and then the message reappears, etc. etc. Has anyone encountered and fixed this error.

4GB in WOW
by Guest onequestionone@yahoo.com- 6 replies

Dear All, My question is, can I allocate 4GB of physical memory when I run my 32bit application in Windows 64bit edition in a machine that has 16GB memory. I already tried allocating of 3GB by configuring 32bit windows but I need more. I think it may be possible because in 64bit I don't have 1GB OS preallocated and WIN64 is running from somewhere else. My program is a in memory database and need not to use virtual memory and all its data should be in physical RAM. Thanks for any reply, John

DOSBox, the DOS emulator that many in this NG use for running 16-bit apps, has had a new release today. This is what they say about this release: Quote A bugfix release this time, but we couldn't resist adding a few new exciting features: Added a new recompiling cpu core which is easier to port! Added a x86_64 and a mipsel_32 recompiling core. Fixed hangups on certain platforms after long gameplay of several games. Fixed several joystick bugs. Improved cdrom support. (fixes for audio, iso and detection.) Improved SVGA and VESA. (detection and display) Fixed a few textmodes and improved ansi emulation a bit. Fixed pcspeaker and certain t…

Robocopy & W2K3 R2 x64
by Guest Roger- 1 reply

Hey all, In past we've used Robocopy to replicate data for High Availability of our data on some web servers. We recently purchased new server to replace some older ones and these boxes run W2K3 x64. The issue, as we found out recently, is that Robocopy doesn't work on x64. Does Microsoft have a solution for this scenario and/or is there an alternate solution that will run on W2K3 x64 that will meet our needs? Please let me know as we need to move forward with implementing these new boxes. I need help, I just installed the xp64bit version to speed up my rendertime. The problem is that I use a wireless usb 2.0 adapter to connect to the router\internet and there is no win x64 driver support! I am using the NETGEAR WG111T usb 2.0 adapter... works fine on my 32bit system but not on the xp64 version.... Any suggestions? If there's nobody who fixed this problem I'd really like like to know what kind of wireless adapters you guys use on your xp64 machines. I searched almost every online shop to find a new wireless adapter... usb 2.0 or pci doesn't matter... all I need is a wireless connection that supports windows XP 64 but I'm still not…

USB floppy during installation
by Guest mjd- 22 replies

I was able to (apparently) successfully slipstream drivers for my Intel 82801HEM/HBM controller into an XP64 CD so that it completed both the text and gui portion of setup, but it won't boot the operating system, resulting in an 0x0000007B hard drive error. I can't seem to work the problem out. I had to slipstream the drivers because I have a laptop and there is no floppy drive, so the F6 driver route wasn't available. So I'm left guessing if I modified the setup scripts correctly and included all of the divers, etc. that I need. Actually, i do have a USB floppy, but that apparently isn't available during nstallation so that it isn't recognized as a drive.…

Memory and 64bit Turion with vista
by Guest Matt- 5 replies

Just treated myself to a new laptop. it claims to have a 1 gig memory, but when I check my properties, it only show 766mb. BIOS shows even less at 633. Have I been duped by Acer, or is this something in Vista (home prem)? My taskmanager memory is running at 70% with no apps running, v poor performance! Also, how do I get the best from my processor? I suspect I am operating at 32bit.

New XP64 installation hangs after/at acpitabl.dat
by Guest mjd- 8 replies

I'm installing a relatively old copy of XP64 (June 2006) for dual boot on a new (Sony VGN-FZ180E/B) laptop. The OS doesn't have a fraction of the drivers needed for all of the new hardware, but I figured I could at least get it installed and booting and work on drivers one peice of hardware at a time. I thought that my only signifcant issue was going to be the absence of SATA drivers - especially since I can't load them from a floppy. But I was able to slipstream the appropriate driver and script updates so that XP successfully completed all text and gui portions of the installation - but it won't boot. Normal installation flashes a VERY brief blue screen …
