64-Bit Scrolling
by Guest Jonathan Wood- 2 replies

I noticed that all documentation for the SCROLLINFO structure (used with SetScrollInfo) just uses int or UINT for structure members as opposed to INT_PTR. Does this mean 64-bit Windows does not support 64-bit scroll values? I have an application where the scroll range and position could exceed 32 bits. Has anyone already worked out the algorithm to make this work on Win32? Thanks. -- Jonathan Wood SoftCircuits Programming http://www.softcircuits.com

solidworks and antivirus conflicts?
by Guest Ann- 0 replies
Okay, this is an annoying problem. I built a new machine with an Intel Core2 Duo and Intel 965 board, 8gb ram, nvidia quadro fx560 and xp pro x64. Our company runs Solidworks, COSMOSWorks. The install was standard and I installed all the updates. The only thing I had a problem with is finding a functional audio driver which isn't a problem because this machine doesn't need audio to do what it was built to do. I got all the other drivers working just fine and just disabled the audio. I set it up on our domain and installed Solidworks Premium and COSMOSWorks. After it is all installed, I run the program and open up an assembly. It opens, WOW, super f…

Server print queue question
by Guest Jason- 3 replies
Hello, Was hoping someone might have some experience with this: I currently have a Windows 2003 Standard Server acting as my current print server, Operating System is 32-bit. Until recently all my PCs were 32-bit, but now I have a batch of 64-bit PCs coming in. I am planning for their installation, have necessary drivers, etc. However, I was wondering what the best way for printer installation might be? Does anyone know if I can install the 64-bit version of the driver as an "additional printer driver" to the already existing print queue? Or perhaps I can install the same printer a second time and rename it as Printer-x64 or something and share it…

Memory allocation error after SP2 on X64
by Guest ExperimentalEconomist- 4 replies

Does anyone know if there is an x64 version of hotfix 894472? The 32-bit version is only available by special request (or from the Stata Corp. website, where it lives with MS permission), and I can't get a clear answer from Microsoft about the existence of a 64-bit version. On 32-bit XP this hotfix, 894472, repairs the memory allocation error induced by SP2 that causes a specific DLL (Xpsp2res.dll) to load in the middle of memory, at 0x20000000 (this info is according to the MS support web page for 894472). This location for the DLL fragments the memory space, and prevents software that needs a large block of contiguous memory from being allocated th…

Vista x64 vs ERDNT
by Guest Flatus Ohlfahrt- 3 replies
Those of you who use ERDNT to automatically backup registry files will understand how it bugs me not being able to get that program to function under Vista x64. I get the following message as each element of the registry is to be written: RegCreateKeyEx:5 Access Denied There are no related entries in the event files. I've verified that the directories I use for archiving ERDNT files and contents are not write protected. Aside from this stumbling block, I've had a remarkably easy install of this system on a low-budget platform. Matter of fact, it was easier than any Windows OS that I've installed. Any help in sorting this glitch out would be appr…

Managing system services from remote computer with GPMC
by Guest Nathan- 5 replies
Hi, We are running Win2k3 x64 as a TS and the GPMC isn't supported. We have a need to allow a single user to be able to start/stop a couple of services for an application installed on the server. This worked ok on our 32bit TS install as we could load the GPMC and edit the services. So my question is, how can I use the GPMC to manage system services on a remote computer so I can allow this user to manage these services? TIA Nathan

Problem when installing applications made with InstallShield under VIsta 64-bit
by Guest erikhamba@yahoo.de- 5 replies
Hi all, When I install different programs which were apparently made with InstallShield under my Windows Vista 64-bit systems, the following error message appears: The program or feature "\\??\D:\Setup.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit version of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if 64-bit Windows is compatible. I know that it is due to the fact that the bootstrap loader is 16-bit, but Microsoft apparently has a fix around this (replacing the 16-bit stub by a 32-bit one). However, this doesn't always seem to work. Does anybody know how to install applications packaged with InstallShield which still have a 16-bi…

This problem happened on Windows XP x64 with Microsoft Office 2003. I didn't expect that the same problem would occur with the latest version of Windows and Office. Microsoft probably knew about this problem before they launched Office 2007. Anyways, I know that Microsoft Office installs a 32 bit icon handler for HTML files and under 64bit Windows, this doesn't work so that there's no icon for HTML files. How can I fix this problem? I've searched the Office news group for this problem and there WAS the same question for this problem but the reply was like the following: >There is an x64 newsgroup. >microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general > >-- …

VISTA into the PAST???
by Guest apprentice idiot- 2 replies

SOMEONE HELP! Whether because of a new update or change to a new monitor (LG L226WA Analogue) yesterday , my system clock travels back in time at each reboot to May 6th, 2006 at 12:06 AM. And, as of this morning, Microsoft Outlook has gone my-core-soft and decided to to set me alarms for a buch of e-mails; yet, no matter how many times I dismiss them all, they bounce right back up again. Luckily, I discovered that all will go away for a longer while when I close the file from the bottom bar. If any cybernaut knows how to deal with this cybernaughtiness, I'll be much obliged.

Error installing Panda Internet Security 2008
by Guest Kaiser- 0 replies

I recently re-installed my Windows Vista 64-bit system, but when I try to re-install my Panda Internet Security 2008, it displays an error on the installation screen which says: Feature Transfer Error Feature: NT Component: ResidenteFicherosNTPAV File: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PAV Error: Access is denied This did not happen on my last Vista installation which was also 64-bit, and I was wondering what is going on? I am the administrator of this computer and I should have access to install this, I don't understand, and light on this would be nicely appreciated. Thanks

I have a BASS POD XT made by LINE6 and when i try to use its MIDI capabilities it says that it is not supported by this operating system at this time. I contacted LINE6 and they say they have no plans to make an upgrade tp this system at anytime in the future. So my question is - is there any way to switch from 64bit to 32 bit within this OS.

HP says my Compaq Presario V5306US is Vista compatible and on their website they give detailed directions to upgrade to Vista, offering a BIOS upgrader, Vista compatibility checker, etc. all in one download: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3245653&lang=en&docname=c00678123 All went well, I installed Vista Home Premium 64 and found HP provided no drivers for the modem or sound card. Pretty useless to have a machine for travelling w/o a working modem... I emailed them and their reply in part: "I regret to inform that, as HP has not yet started bundling Windows Vista 64 bit operating syste…
