How do you prevent the security warning "unknown publisher" for all users?
by Guest Saucer Man- 24 replies

When a user launches a RemoteAPP program, he gets an Open File - Security Warning. It says "The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?" The dialog prompt refers to the drive letter mapping and the .exe in question. How can I set up the terminal server so these prompts do not happen to any user? -- Thanks!

Not all printers are showing up using RemoteAPP
by Guest Saucer Man- 23 replies
We are using RemoteAPP with Server 2008. At a remote location, our user is trying to print from the app but when he goes to select the printer from the app, only a few of his printers are showing up. If he goes to START-SETTINGS-PRINTERS, all his printers are there. I can't find anything in common with the printers that do show up in the RemoteAPP. One of the printers lives at the office, another lives at his remote location, the other are the Microsoft Document Writers. He really needs to printer to a PDFPrinter that is on his laptop. This PDF printer converts the documents to a PDF File. Anyone know how to correct this? -- Thanks!

I am having an issue installing programs consoled in and logged in as admininstrator. It keeps giving the message of "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" I don't know of any policy set to prevent this from even happening for the administrator. I have went to the lengths of removing the group policy for the users and trying it again without any luck. Does anyone know how to reset everything on that server or any suggestions. Thanks, TM

Application caching
by Guest Toni Van Remortel- 20 replies

Hi all, We have set up Server 2008 with Terminal Server for about 10 users. All those users use the same application (a single exe from a network share). The drawback is that when we update the application (in-house development), we need to ask all TS users to log out before they can use the new version. Somehow, the exe is cached by the TS server as long as someone has it open, and TS does not check if the exe on the network share is updated. Is there a way to disable this behavior? When we update the application, a simple close and reopen should open the new version, not the old cached version. Thanks a lot. -- Regards, Toni Van Remortel

Do I need my W2K3 Server to be a Domain Controller
by Guest Mark- 20 replies

Hi and Thanks for helping. We have a W2K3 Server that is accessed by to local PC's and 2 remote PC's Obviously at this point onlt 2 people at a time can be in. We are expanding and I am going to assign the server Terminal Server Role and add 5 CALS. I see that somewhere along installation a few years ago, I gave this server a role of Domain Controll which I see is directly connected to Active Directory. Do I need The Domain Controller Role. All we will be doing is accessing a main software application. NO email, or web hosting at this point. If I turn off Domain Controller to save memory, will the 2 users remote or local, still have normal acce…

Local Resources - mapped client's drive has incorrect computer nam
by Guest DLecool- 19 replies
We're running a terminal server 2003 with aprox. 10 concurrent users. We are experiencing a problem where clients' mapped drives have an incorrect computer name. For example if user Joe whose computer name is JoesBox maps his local C drive and then goes to My Computer in TS, it should say "C on JoesBox Computer" but it doesn't, it may say something like "C on DavesBox Computer". The computer name seems to be the one of another user that was previously connected to TS. Browsing the drive still shows Joe's files but this incorrect computer name is freaking out our clients. It seems like terminal server is doing some caching on the computer name. Any ideas…

by Guest HMO Fallen Angel- 19 replies

Hi eveybody, Before, we used to have a windows 2000 as our domain controller and it was the terminal server too, and we can RDC to this server. Then, we got a new server, installed win 2003 server 'migrated' our 2000 domain to a 2003 domain and right now they are co-existing. We did this because we need to move our application from the win 2000 server to the new 2003 server. Right now users are connecting to the 2000 server using using terminal server without any problems. I have already installed terminal server and its licenses on the new win 2003 server but when i try to connect using RDC i'm getting the error: "To log on this remote computer, you mu…

Terminal Server Performance
by Guest Grecko- 18 replies

We are having poor performance on our terminal server. We only have about 100 users on one server with 2 processors and 8 gigs of ram. The poor performance seems to coincide with high/read writes on our C: drive. Could the drive itself be the bottleneck or the network itself?...Thanks...Grecko

SP2 on Windows 2003 Terminal Server getting "Low on Registry Space
by Guest Dennis_S- 17 replies

After installing SP2 on Windows 2003 Terminal Server I came in the next morning and saw on the server "Windows - Low on Registry Space - The system has reached the maximum size allowed for the system part of the registry. Additional storage requests will be ignored." Users logging onto TS get "Windows was unable to load the profile but has logged on with the default profile system. Default - Insufficiant system resources exist to complete the requested service." It appears that up to six-eight users are able to log on before a user gets the Unable to load profile. Log a couple users off and another is able to log on. If reboot the server and it i…

Any way to force users to log in manually?
by Guest amos- 17 replies

Many of our offsite users have saved Remote Desktop Connection (.rdp) files saved with the password. Is there any way to have TS 2003 reject that kind of login, and ask for it to be manually typed in?

Cannot Remote Control: Error 7054
by Guest Johannes- 16 replies

When I try to remote control a session (neither are console session), I get error: Session (ID 2) remote control failed (Error 7054 - The system has reached its licensed logon limit. Please try again later. ) The old installation didn't have this problem but the hard drive crashed so we have to reinstall. Q1. Why do I get this error and how do I fix it? Q2. a. Is this because we don't have license? b. Our network admin told me that he already put the CAL license on the license manager (on our Domain controller), how do I check if we actually have CAL for Windows 2003 Terminal Server? Btw, here are a few settings: 1. From Terminal Services…

SHaring a MS access frontend amongst all TS users
by Guest Jason Woodbury- 15 replies
I have an Acess front end I am trying to share with all users. I would like to know if there is a way for TS or scripting wise to implement 1 access front end and have it make a copy from a set location to every users desktop everytime they login. I am tired of having to delete every single users front end everytime it updates(which it seems to do frequently). As it stands, I have 1 copy of the front end on everyones desktop, I would like for them to be able to access a master copy and the server to automatically download a fresh copy everytime they login and delete it when they logout. Is there a way to go about this so I can simply be able to update …

Software cost of setting up a TS server?
by Guest WetBehindEars- 15 replies

I would like to implement a TS server in our environment. My question to you guys is how much does the Windows Server 2003 license cost and how much are the CAL's for the TS server? Do I have to purchase just as many client access licenses as I would CAL's for the TS? Or can I get away with one client access licenses and purchase as many CAL's as needed?

Add regkey to TS users HKCU
by Guest Al Williams- 15 replies
Windows Server 2003 SP2 TS. I need to add a simple registry key to all my TS users HKCU hive. I googled and found an old post from Vera and tried adding "regedit newreg.reg" command to my login scripts but the users get a permission error - "Cannot import newreg.reg: Error accessing the registry." . It seems they aren't allowed to add new keys to their HKCU hive (it doesn't work manually either unless they are admins). Short of giving them all admin permissions until it's done is there another way? I know this must be simple but I can't find a solution that works. I'd rather not get into GPO's or VBscript if I can help it... Thanks -- Alla…

How to test if RemoteDesktop still connected from c# Options
by Guest lawrence.barwick@googlemail.com- 15 replies
- 577 views
I am trying to write an app in c# that monitors open RDCs and warns me if a connection goes down. I tried looking for ip address in TaskManager list - which works, it can see difference between a RCD window that has been logged into and one that has been cancelled (by user). However, if connection is lost due to internet - I am not able to look for anything that tells me this. If anyone can think of a way that I can test whether a connection if still up an running - I would be greateful. Obviously, I can tell on the host side, but I want this to be from the side that initiated the RDC. Many thanks, Lawrence

Temporary client license

I installed a terminal server (member server) on a SBS network and am now getting the following pop up on the desktops: "Your terminal services temporary client license will expire in 7 days. Please contact your system administrator to get a permanent license." Is this anything that I need to worry about? Will the permanent licenses start working without having to do anything? If there is something I need to do, what is it? Help!

Group Policy For Terminal Server
by Guest Rossco1981- 14 replies
HI All This is probably a straight forward problem but I am a bit stuck. We have an OU for terminal servers which has the GPO appplied to it, to restrcited various things (such as run box, control panel access, map drive etc). This works perfectly well when users log onto the server they can only do the tasks we want them to do, however as the policy is applied at machine level when we log on a administrator we also experience the same restrictions. We cannot apply the policy at user level (as users are in many places and use different computers/laptops etc). Is there a way to apply the policy to everyone but Administrators? As we need to use terminal…

Windows 2003 Sp2 / clients - windows xp Every time I log in (with different accounts) the driver for a remote printer gets reset. How do I change this. I checked the Group Policy and the settings are "not configured" I waited 60 seconds after login to make a change on the printer settings as per MS instructions and waited 60 seconds for that change to be saved to the client. How do I get the driver I want to stick when the users log in Thanks, SJMP

W2K3S - SP2. Terminal Services have never worked on this server yet. After removing, rebooting, and reinstalling Terminal Services for Admin access only, I get the following System Event ID: 7000 - "The Terminal Services service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified. " When starting the Terminal Services Configuration snap-in I recieve the following message: MMC could not create the snap-in. This is not an AD controller. I have no problems on other W2K3 servers. I searched around and didn't find anything relevant - yet.

Event IDs 1500 and 1508
by Guest Allan- 14 replies

W2K3 Standard Terminal Server with 4Gb Ram. Recently upgraded the accounting system. There are approximately 50 users. After the upgrade, aproximately the first 30 people can log in and the rest can not. Event ID 1500 and Event 1508 multiple times. "Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded..." I suspect that the 4Gb of RAM is not sufficient for 50 users. Does this sound right, or is something corrupted or hardware failure? If the problem is insufficent RAM, no hardware failure, or system corruption, can I upgrade the existing server to W2K3 Enterprise and add more RAM? If so, can I put the W2K3 Enterprise CD in and "Load on Top" …

Windows 2000 TS, restricting users to 1 session
by Guest Chris Swinney- 14 replies
Hi all, I see that there are GPOs that can be set to restrict user creating more than 1 session for TS in Win 2003, but we have issues with a Win 2000 TS server. I have also noted that there are GPOs that use keepalive so that dropped session can be disconnected properly. We have remote users that connect in via VPN then use TS to run certain apps. Sometimes the VPN disconnects and the TS session is broken. I have set the option in the properties of the users so that they SHOULD be able to reconnect from any client, however, what appear to be happening is that the user attempts to log back on and a new session is started. I would like to set Win …
