Terminal Server Hardware Recommendations
by Guest AndreZ- 7 replies

Hey Gang, It's about that time to upgrade our server, and honestly I haven't been keeping up with current hardware out there. So I'm looking for recommendations We currently have Windows 2k (32bit) Server 2ghz Dual Processors (single core) 4gb Memory SCSI Raid 1 (operating system) SCSI Raid 5 (Data files) This system was originally designed to house about 10-15 concurrent users and thier applications. The last 4.5 years have been pretty good to use, especially considering it's holding a load of about 35 concurrent users and all thier applications. With that unexpected growth in mind.. I'm thinking Win2k3 server (64-bit) 8GB Memory Dual Quad Cor…

Managing IE6 in a Terminal Services Environment
by Guest cbrunet- 7 replies

Greetings all, I'm having some issues trying to manage Internet Explorer 6 through Group Policy. I've setup a new GPO and associated it with the OU I want. I've then gone User Configuration -> Administrative Templates - > Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Internet Control Panel -> Security Page and enabled the group policy Site to Zone Assignment list. I've added the sites I wish to add to the local Intranet, and exited. Now, when I log onto the desktop of the associated system as administrator, my IE settings come across. I go Tools -> Internet Options, then the security tab, I select the Local Intranet sites and all of my ad…

Profiles Documents and Settings
by Guest Mikecl- 7 replies

Hi, I would like to clarify what profile info gets stored where. I have a win2k3 Server running TS approx 50 different users connect to it and run one App on the TS (configured to run when they connect) there are no other profile settings configured either in Group Policy or on the user profile settings. When the user connect via TS each user gets a (presumably) TS profile crated in C:\doc&Sett they are not particularly large but each but obviously this takes up space so now the dir contains data approx 2.5GB or so. I have read various bits of info about changing the location to a different drive and redirecting my docs etc. I configured one partcular…

Is there a way to detect published appplications?
by Guest John- 7 replies
Hi all, I am evaluating windows 2008 TS now. with Widows 2008 TS, clients need to install applications through the packaged share (such as rdp or msi) or through software group policy. Then the remote programs folder is shown in the program folder. Is there a way which allow clients to get published applications by just configuring the TS server settings or farm settings and then published applications will show in the remote programs folder (just as Citrix farm does, the published aplications shows in the program folder after you configure the farm settings and users do not need to install packages etc.) Is this pssible?

by Guest takman_777- 7 replies

I have just taken over a 25 node network that is set up with Windows 2000 SBS, and Windows 2000 Terminal Server on 2 boxes. the main server runs the applications needed for the local group, and the Terminal server facilitates remote users who access the same program and data structure set up as a terminal service via vpn connections. they have a firewall set to administer dhcp address to the remote hosts. my question is this, i have noticed that the Terminal Server is set to run in Remote Administration mode, yet it was set up in Application Server mode almost 2 years ago when it was set up. my understanding is this... in RA mode, the server should not …

by Guest azevon- 7 replies

Greetings All, I'm running a Windows 2003SP2 TS server with Citrix Meteframe 3.0. In the past, I have successfully added users (using computer management\local users & groups) and then added them into the group "Remote Desktop Users" Then I have successfully logged onto this server via a citrix client (or TS client), and modified that user"s Internet Option Security tab (my goal is to add my local UNC paths into trusted local intranet sites). Butr suddenly, when I add a new user onto the server (and give them the same rights as old users), when I log on as that user remotely, the icons in the IE Security tab are grayed out, with grayed locked k…

CAN'T Connect to Terminal Server from local Network, CAN Connect via VPN Externally, What have I done?

CAN'T Connect to Terminal Server from local Network, CAN Connect via VPN Externally, What have I done? Hi, I can only connect to my Windows 2003 Terminal Server with an Administative User when connecting from the local network, I am pretty sure users could connect before as some apps are ONLY installed on the TS so they connect to them internally from there occasionally. I have checked externally by logging in from my home machine over VPN with a standard user and it works fine. I have recently done some re-configuration of Group Policy and I have to wonder if this is what is stopping users loggin on locally. This isn't a huge problem as we usuall…

I have a Win2000 TS licensing server and 2 Win2000 TS running in AppMode. I have about 40 users, Win XP and Intermec devices using the TS. When I try to connect with some new clients I get a 1004 error. All the "old" clients are working fine, but I cannot connect with any of the new clients. The licensing server have "lost" all my TS, I can just see the licensing server it self. When I am trying to connect to one of my TS from the licensing server, I got this message : Windows cannot connect to a licensing server. I have tried to follow the Guidelines from Q239107, but it still dos´nt work. It seems that I have got a system where it is´nt possible to …

printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003
by Guest Vish- 7 replies
Hi, I am getting a problem when users try to print webpages from our 64 bit windows servers while they are TS'ing or citrixing in. When they print the page comes out blank.Even print preview is blank. When I get onto the server, I am seeing "thunking errors". The print server is a 2003 32bit box. I have installed the 32bit drivers but then added x64 2003 as an additional print device on the print server and loaded 64 bit drivers for the printers. All the printers are doing this. However, if we get the same users using the same printers on a 32 bit 2003 machine, everything works fine. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi.. There is a problem in only one of our servers.. The thing is that everything was working fine.. I had some users in the terminal server users group and they were connecting to this server.. But today, I don't know what happened, everytime I try to connect to this server, I get an error: To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User Access permissions on this computer. By default members of the Remote Desktop Users group have these permissions. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group another group that has these permissions, you must be granted these permissions manually. Also I went t…

Removing Outlook Express from Start Menu
by Guest Chris- 7 replies

I am trying to configure my Terminal Server so that Outlook Express does not appear on the start menu for any new user profiles. I have read and tried several things and have not been successful (logged in with a user after each step, verified the OE icons are sill present, deleted the profile, then tried again after another change): I removed the stubpath entry from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}. I restored the above key and changed it to be HideStubPath. I tried removing the hide flag for OE in the sysoc.inf file and removing Outlook Express (from start menu) through add/remove wind…

I am using Remote Desktop client on a vista PC. I can only stay connected to any TS Servers for about 10sec > 5 minutes at best before the client stops responding and a disconnect message. I then connect again an contine once again. I have tried to connect to 3 different TS Servers with the same response. If I use my XP PC using the same network connection everything works properly with no disconnects. Is there a known problem with the vista TS Client?

Windows Server 2008 and redirected printer names
by Guest Saucer Man- 7 replies

Is there a way to prevent the redirected printers in a client session from displaying a number which changes after the word "redirected"? This is causing an issue with applications that remember the name of the last printer used. The application might remember "redirected 2" and the next time a client connects the print job fails because it is now called redirected 3". -- Thanks!
