IE 6 settings in a TS environment
by Guest Nancy R- 0 replies
Hi folks, I apologize if this is the wrong forum but I have an unusual issue that only occurs on our TS servers, it does not happen on our client workstations. We are running 2 Citrix PS 4.0 servers on Windows Server 2003 SP1. What is happening is every 1-2 days the Internet Explorer settings get changed so that Outlook Express is the default mail client instead of Outlook. Our end users then run into problems when trying to send e-mail from within MS Office and other programs. We have a very limited group of users (6) who have the ability to even view the IE Programs tab, let along change it. I have spoken with all of them and they assure me the…

Temporary client license
by Guest jeffk- 15 replies

I installed a terminal server (member server) on a SBS network and am now getting the following pop up on the desktops: "Your terminal services temporary client license will expire in 7 days. Please contact your system administrator to get a permanent license." Is this anything that I need to worry about? Will the permanent licenses start working without having to do anything? If there is something I need to do, what is it? Help!

Printing - Supported Devices
by Guest JohnB- 11 replies
About a week ago someone posted a link from HP's website that listed supported printers for TS. (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00213455) But the document states it's for Citrix Presentation Server. I'm trying to find something comparable for Microsoft's TS. Does anyone know of such a document?

deny ts connection based on ip?
by Guest robert.waters- 10 replies
I have been tasked with only allowing a certain user account to connect to the TS from the internal network (that person should not be allowed to log in from their home anymore). Is there any way to accomplish this, besides figuring out that person's home IP address and denying it at the firewall? I am open to anything (shell/vb scripting, whatever). Thanks!

Hello, is it possible to change then language in a published Application like Word from an Windows 2003 MUI and Office 2003 MUI without using the Desktop-Feature Control Panel. I never find an option to do this. If this is not possible, then I have to publish a restrictive desktop, only with the Control Panel option to change the display language. But I won't do this. Can me help somebody? Thanks in advance. Bernd

We moved our Windows 2000 TS machine from an NT4.0 domain to an active directory domain with a mix of 2000 and 2003 domain controllers. The domain functional level is Windows 2000 native. We realized after the fact that the licensing server could not longer run on the Windows 2000 TS server and moved it to a Windows 2003 domain controller in the same site with the help of the MS clearing house. XP clients that previously connected to the terminal server still work fine. New clients get the message 'remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol'. We tried deleting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicen…

Clients Local Printer Not Printing
by Guest Golforfood- 5 replies
I have a Windows 2003 Server R2 running and I have a client who uses Remote Desktop to login. The client can't print to their local printer. I am using Terminal Services. The just purchases a new printer which is an HP Laserjet 3055 All in One. I read a knowledgebase article on Microsoft's web site (Article ID 302361) that says Printers that use ports that do not begin with Com, Lpt, or USB are not redirected in a Remote Desktop or Terminal Services Session. I have made the registry changes on the clients computer and also changed the port from DOT$ to LPT. I still can't print. Is there anything else I can do? I have spent a week on this and the cl…

RDP Sound skipping
by Guest Gretchen Hembree- 3 replies
I have successfully set up sound through my RDP session. My problem now is that the sound is skipping. I have tried a few tests with sound through IE or sound actually stored on the server HD. Both skip. When you log into the RDP (and have Windows default sound activated) the start up sound does not appear to skip. I am wondering if this is a setting that can be worked on or if it is based on the physical internet connection. I am trying this from a remote site. I haven't gone to the physical location of the server to test an RDP connection from that office. IE has always been a bit slower through RDP than on your local desktop. Is there…

Terminal Server Events 1004 & 4105
by Guest Saucer Man- 6 replies
I am getting this Informational event logged on my terminal server (server 2008) whenever someone connects to it from within our domain. 1004 - "The terminal server cannot issue a client license. It was unable to issue the license due to a changed (mismatched) client license, insufficient memory, or an internal error. Further details for this problem may have been reported at the client's computer." We have 5 per user TS Cals installed. A Microsoft rep stated that per user Cals cannot be tracked and that this message is normal. I felt perhaps he was a little unsure about this as my call to them was actually on another issue. Does anyone know if this…

Quad or Dual Core CPUs??
by Guest Hank Arnold (MVP)- 8 replies
I will be ordering two new servers for a new/replacement farm. It will be running Windows 2003, PS 4.5, have50 concurrent licenses (our peak seems to be around 35 concurrent users). We will run Office 2003 (including Outlook), a database client (Misys HomeCare) and Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 (mostly legacy files). I'd appreciate opinions on whether it makes more sense to get 2 Quad core CPUs or Dual core CPUs.... -- Regards, Hank Arnold Microsoft MVP Windows Server - Directory Services

Licensing Server will not activate
by Guest ThomasR- 1 reply

I'm setting up a Terminal Server on a 2003 Server. When I try to 'Activate' Terminal Server Licensing it does nothing. This box will be a member server when delivered, but right now I have it on the bench as a member of a workgroup. It should still activate shouldn't it? I have done this on two other servers a couple of years ago (DC's though) and had no problems. Thanks

Licensing Questions
by Guest Hemmy- 3 replies

Hi; Either Terminal Server licensing can be a little confusing or I'm not as bright as I think I am (no comments necessary). Q. Is it correct to say that that a Win2003 TS can either be in USER or DEVICE cal licensing mode? Q. If I use USER cals, that means a single user can logon to the TS from any machine (office PC, home PC, laptop, etc) and only consume one cal? Q. If I use USER cals, and a user logins in 2 times concurrently, I assume that consumes TWO cals? Q. Can DEVICE cals be converted to USER cals? Q. Scenario: A user has a machine with dual monitors and has TWO TS sessions going (one on each monitor). Does that consume 2 USER …

Modify the amount of time that a user/PC holds onto a TS license?
by Guest Glamprecht- 1 reply
From what I can see, when a device or a user grabs a license from the Terminal server, there is a random time set on that license as to when it expires and is released back into the pool. Assuming that this is so..Can I shorten the time that is assigned to the license so that the license is returned to the pool quicker? We have lots of user that might remote into our terminal server once or twice per year and yet even if they are not using that license, they continue to hold onto them until that preset time is up. 52 to 89 days...... Can I shorten this to 24 hours or 7 days??????

TS, GPO, diffent users
by Guest Hugh O'Donnell- 5 replies
I have: 1. Set up a server for Remote Desktop access. 2. Created a Security Group (acct_users) and only allow them to access this TS. 3. Created OU for server (term_server) and linked GPO with loopback on it. 4. Set default application for TS via the GPO. 5. Set Domain Admin's "Apply this Policy" to Denied in the GPO. My problem is, 1. When a Domain Admin TS's into this machine, they still run the default app. (I'm sure this is because the loopback doesn't look at what user is being run... but how do I implement this?) 2. Users can still jack around with the local drives from the application's "Save As" dialog. Is there a way to keep them out of the l…

I was told by someone that a retail pack of "Terminal Services Client Access Licenses For Microsoft Windows Server 2008" is able to be installed on a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server. I was doubtful, but tried installing them anyway. When doing so, I receive an "Invalid Code" error. I bet the guy a case of beer that it couldn't be done. Who gets the beer?

Move "Documents and Settings"
by Guest D.S.- 11 replies

Hi, we are running into space issues on the C: drive on one of our TS. With the "Documents and Settings" consuming the major part of the drive i thought it might be a quick way to resolve this issue to move that folder (including contents) to another local drive. Has anyone followed through the "Entire Folder" solution provided by <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;LN;236621>? To make the process quicker Microsofts CopyProfile tool would probably be used. Any input on how reliable this process is or if it works at all would be great. Thanks Daniel

Good moring! I hope that all of you in the US had a great 4th of July (we did...but the little ones do not quite appreciate the Fireworks after bedtime!). QUESTION: on a WIN2003 R2 SP2 Terminal Server we have, among other things, MS Office 2007 installed. Additionally, we installed MS Office Project 2007 (default location). I need to limit the users who are able to make use of MS Office Project 2007. Is this possible? Please read the short novel below to understand why I am asking this question.... SHORT NOVEL!!!!!! I noticed on the Terminal Server that C:\Program Files has an "extra" Security Group in the NTFS Permissions tab - "TERMINAL SER…
