caseware error
by Guest pdch@shaw.ca- 3 replies

I have an application "caseware" that gives an error saying registry editing has been disabled by the admin. I have granted permissions under HKLU and HKLM to the specific application in question, but still doesn't work. Tech support for caseware recommends "enabling" disableregistryediting on the terminal server ( I don't feel comfortable doing that...) I ran regmon, but it didn't come up with anything regarding access denied to any registry key. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Print Spooler problem
by Guest Dennis_S- 1 reply

2003 Terminal Server with XP clients. Users will say they can't print. I'll look at Printers and Faxes, and many times the screen is blank. Other times the printers are displayed. I stop/start the print spooler and the printers are back. But unless the users log off and back on, they are not able to print. We have Brother, Epson, HP Laser Printer, HP DeskJet, and Lexmark printers at client stations. Periodically the spooler stops by itself, but I have recovery set to restart on the first failure. The System log rarely shows the spooler shutting down. I usually have to manually stop/start it myself. Lately when I stop the spooler I get a spool…

wtsuprn.inf
by Guest Pearl- 2 replies

I may need to create an association file like the "wtsuprn.inf" file of old to allow some of our network printers to print thru our Terminal Server. However, I wonder if I create this file and make the drive associations if it will mean that "all" printers have to use this file? I have over 100 Term users and some have redirected local printers that work fine now. I'd hate to do this and find that it causes more problems. I'm trying to resolve printing for only a few users who need a special printer. So, the question is: can I create the wtsuprn.inf file and still have other users use their local redirected printers?

Changing default printer
by Guest AJ- 1 reply

Hello, When users connect to our W2K3 Terminal server they cannot change the default printer mapping. The server will randonly choose a different default printer for the user and then the user cannot change to the correct default printer. In the past the default printer would be set to the Micrsoft Document & Imaging printer and the user would attempt to change to their default network printer. They right click the network printer and choose set as default. The screen would flash and nothing would happen. I've deleted the user profile and allowed it to recreate and still the same behavior. The server is running SP2 and all of the latest patche…

Permission Issue? Icons Denied in Terminal Services
by Guest KWME- 7 replies

I was working on my server this afternoon trying to get a printer to work on Terminal Services. I must have changed something, and I can't remember what. When users log-on to the terminal server they get the following message when clicking on almost all of the icons on the desktop and start menu "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." One weird thing is that the internet explorer icon works perfectly. I've checked and rechecked the share permissions and can't find a problem. I rebuilt the mandatory profile. I've checked the group policy and can't find a problem. I'm at wi…

Windows 2003 Server - Terminal Services - Drive Mapping
by Guest SnorkyTheWeasel- 0 replies

Windows 2003 Server - Terminal Services - Drive Mapping Not your usual drive mapping issues..... Objective: * Make the server's D: Drive appear to the client as the C: Drive. * Make the remote terminal's CD-ROM Drive appear to the client as the D: [/b]Drive. * The remote terminal's C: drive can be mapped to anything ( except C: D: H: ). We store user data and profiles on the H: Drive, which is mapped to Current Condition: * The server's C: Drive is for system files. * The server's D: Drive is for everything else. Reason: Install educational software on the server so that students using TS can access the software from their TS clients. (Note: the lice…

Hello We are using RDP in a 2003 TS environment. The clients are basic XP SP2 machines. Problem we have had recently is some users use the local disk mapping, you go in and the local drives will all of a sudden disappear. Has anyone else seen anything like this and maybe know where I should start looking?

My application is such that I cannot give every users their independent User IDs. Thanks in Advance, Regards, Denis

We want to allow windows printer mapping to support local printing, but when you log in and I have say 40 printers installed, the screen flickers and if you try to select something and the screen flickers again, you loose what you just tried to select. How can we allow local printing on a win2k3 r2 sp2 ts without having the screen flicker while it's adding printers from the local computer? tia, RandyH

"Do not have access to logon to this session"
by Guest Gregg- 2 replies

Howdy! I have a Windows 2003 R2 domain managed via Group Policy with something over 100 client machines as members. We've recently implemented VPN access and the long term plan is to implement a solid Terminal Server infrustructure. In the mean time, though, I'm attempting to get access for folks working from home to Remote Desktop on their Windows XP Pro SP2 machines here at the office. I do have Windows Firewall enabled on the clients here in the office, which is also managed via Group Policy. I've double and triple checked policy settings (ports for the firewall, user account flags, & the policy for Remote desktop itself) but I must be missing somet…

Re: Cannot Print Locally Hi Vera. You keep pointing people with Local Printer problems to the 239088 artcile, but if I go there it says WS2000 problem. Has it been fixed in WS2003? RE: Licensing Clarification - Office 2003 Standard Ed. I too need clarification on licensing. I have fried my Toshiba latop and I am 3000 miles from home and nowhere near a servcie center in a rather rural area for a big city. I may have to buy a new laptop. How can I tell if my Office 2003-standard Edition(product Key on hand) has an unexpired liciense left on it so I don't have to buy new software or at the very lest new Excel? -- Thanks, Ajimmo "E. TS Gateway?
by Guest Ian Boyd- 4 replies

From an external site, i want to Remote Desktop to a machine on the workplace LAN. i cannot VPN to the workplace because the the local router, like almost all routers, cannot handle more than one Microsoft PPTP VPN connection. (Either that or they just don't allow it - pick'em). So what would be idea is a way to have Remote Desktop client software have the ability to connect to a "proxy" or "gateway" computer that i can expose to the Internets, and then that machine can forward the RDP traffic to the desired machine on the local LAN. It would need to be on port 80 (HTTP), or if really need be port 445 (HTTPS, with no valid certificate). Spelunki…

Term Serv User Profile problem
by Guest Pearl- 4 replies

We have over 100 Terminal Server users that randomly connect to our Terminal Servers. All but one have no issues. However, the one person who does have an issue finds that he can connect to the Term Server but when he's done , it takes forever for him to logoff. In watching his session, I noticed that when he logs off all the processes shutdown normally EXCEPT winlogon and CSRSS. Thinking this may be a Term Serv User profile problem, I tried to delete his profile but discovered that it would not delete. Seems a UsrClass.dat file does not want to be removed and says that someone has it open but the user is logged off from the Term Server. Any ideas on…
