Hi, I need to connect remotely to a MsWindows2000 professional host and export its desktop and I haven't other options other than using the Ms remote desktop via RDP (it is not possible in my environment to use other products such as PcAnywhere, VNC and so on). Do you know if this is feasible? In other words, is there the possibility to install the server side of RDP on a MsWindows 2000 professional machine? Thank you in advance. Best regards. Diego.

Remote Desktop Weird Low Virtual Memory Error
by Guest Bill- 0 replies

Not sure if this is the right group for this question, but I figured it would be the one with the most experience with the remote client. I have a customer with a Vista Business PC in his office, setup for Remote Desktop. Using the latest client on my WinXP Pro machine, I can log in automatically to his Vista, with his domain\username & password in the Remote Desktop Connection on my PC. BUT if HE tries it from HIS WinXP Pro home machine, he cannot put the password into Remote Desktop Connection, because if he does, he immediately gets a "low virtual memory" warning on trying to connect. If he leaves out the password, the connection goes throug…

Hello: Can someone point me to a step-by-step instruction for setting up IIS to host the TS web connection? Or is it as simple as installing the default IIS website and then installing the tswebsetup.exe? Thanks.

Terminal Services
by Guest Brian Z- 5 replies

I have a Windows 2003 SErver SP2 running Terminal Services with an IP of 192.168.100.101. Everyone in the Company Remotes into this machine from Home, and then they use RDP again to their XP or Vista desktops. Is there ANY way I could program a Snap-in for each user on the 2003 terminal server, so they can just hit a button to get the their PC? The thing is it always seems to forget their Domain, then they are confused about the Local PC name coming up in the Username box. I know there is a Snap in in the Admin Tools of 2003, but that seems overkill. Also there is the Web Client, but I would need to program that to remember the credentials. I would al…

Winlogon.exe uses 100% CPU
by Guest Lasse- 6 replies

Hi We have a Server 2003 R2 SP2 with Terminal Services that's causing some problems. We have around 80 users using the server and each have a RDP connection that automatically starts a program on the server. Suddenly today the server more or less stopped responding and the only thing I could find was Winlogon.exe using 100% CPU time but I can't figure out WHY? I logged off all the users and then the problem disappeared. I suspect it might be our GPO logon script, but the only thing it does is check if you logon to the Terminal Server and then it runs the following line: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /Xs /y /n"Printername"

ask your advice!
by Guest John- 1 reply

Hi all, Do you think KB278295 will be enough to lock down the windows 2003 R2 SP2 terminal server? If not, any other recommendation? If I set policy to deny applying to the domain admin group, I even can not edit the policy which shows inaccessible GPO-access denied. How do you deal with your admin account in this case? Thank you.

2003 TS Printing issues
by Guest dwhagerman- 1 reply

2003 R2 Enterprise Edition with SP2. New install with all updates. There are 4 printers at this location, and two are being difficult. When you add the printers, the Add Printer wizard goes through, adds the drivers, then sits at the "Finish" screen and will not actually finish. The printers being added are an HP Laserjet 3005, and an HP Laserjet 2420. Both have 2003 Server drivers, and are the lastest/greatest from HP's site. Both are network printers. Any suggestions?

RDP Issue
by Guest Phil Rudich- 3 replies

Not sure if this is the correct thread for this question, but here it goes... Have a user who's on XP Pro and RDP's into a W2003 server. We have a GPO setup so that they are unable to copy and paste to/from their machines & RDP sessions. However, when this user has a session open in full screen, he is unable to copy and paste on his local machine all together. But when the RDP session is minimized or smaller sized (not full screen), copy and paste can work locally on his machine. The user has tried this on another machine and can duplicate the issue. As far as I can tell, no other users are having this problem. Sounds profile specific! I've s…

RDP Printer Issues from outside vendor
by Guest ittechie100- 1 reply

I have a vendor that needs to connect into my Terminal server and run some reports that in turn need to be printed back to their printers. Is there a easy way to set this up ? I have a netgear firewall, configured it to allow 3389 to my terminal server. He can connect without issue using RDP, just can't see his local printers? My private range is 192.168.1.0 and his private range is 192.168.2.0. I was assuming that after he connected he would be able to communicate with his printer...he tried pinging his printer 192.168.2.24 after connecting rdp session and gets reply timed out....Any help would be appreciated...sincerely

Unable to change Terminal Services Home Folder Location
by Guest cTekken- 5 replies

I'm trying to change the Local Path (Default is C:\Documents and Settings) to D:\Documents and Settings. Originally when the Terminal Server was built the Local path was left as the default as a result the system drive is running out of space since we have several users with large profiles. Would any one be able to tell me what i might be doing wrong... When i change the local path on the Terminal Services Profile to D:\Documents and Settings\%username% or make the same change under the TS User Home Directory Properties in the Group Policy it seems to have no effect. Am i going about this the wrong way or is it simply not possible? Thank you

Secure Terminal Server Access Over Internet
by Guest MS Poster- 5 replies

Hello: I am new to TS and am trying to get some clarity on connecting external users. I understand that I can have users connect to the corporate network using a VPN and then connect to the TS. We currently have a corporate policy that prevents users from connecting to the VPN from personal or home computers. While this could be changed, we would prefer to not have to manage users loading the VPN client (Cisco) on their personal machines. It seems then that I can have users connect directly using the RD client or use the TS Web Connection. Either way, it seems I will need to open 3389 directly to the Internet. This seems dubious. Is there a way to en…

Terminal services disconnect after about 10 minutes.
by Guest Scott- 6 replies

Basic problem: users connecting to TS machine get logged off and then logged back on after 10 minutes idle time. clients: (XP sp2) using Remote Desktop Connection connect to: Windows Server 2003 R2 terminal services machine. RDP listener has idle timeout set to Never. GPO for terminal services machine is set to idle timeout never. At first I thought it was a network connectivity issue, so I setup a remote desktop to a different machine on the same LAN as the terminal services machine, but that is staying connected. I'm sure there's some simple thing I either didn't do that I was supposed to, or was supposed to do but didn't, but if anyone has any …

Terminal Clients Can't Print to Network
by Guest KWME- 3 replies
I'm running a Server 2003 network with a Server 2003 DC and a separate Server 2003 Terminal Server. I recently added a network printer to the network - an HP LG P2015dn. I can print to the printer from the DC without a problem. I can print to the printer from the TS without a problem when logged in to the terminal or if logged in through remote desktop as administrator. Regular terminal clients, however, can't print. When you click print the print menu pops up and the correct printer is displayed. When one clicks "Print" nothing happens and the process eventually times out. I've checked group policy on this issue - I've allowed data redirection and…

We recently ordered some new computers with dual core processors. I noticed on our TS Licensing server that these computers are using 2 CALs each. Is this by design because of the dual processors or should they only be using one CAL?

We just setup a Terminal Server, added TS Device CALs, etc. We have not setup any GP on the DC yet but intend to. We setup a user & computer account on the DC for one of the TS Clients. We setup a Remote Desktop Connection on the client and successfully connected to the TS. On the TS, we now have a folder for the user under the Documents & Settings directory. We have 9 other users that wil connect to the TS and do not want a folder created for each one. What can we do to avoid this? Thanks!

Anyone used the very nice Yugma *free* web conferencing tool. WebEx like. Works a treat on normal PCs but doesn't appear to work on Citrix/TS. Anyone tried it and got it working? Would love to dump WebEx as the user interface just annoys and they keep changing it. Cheers, Rob.
