We have a 2003 Terminal server with 10 licenses. We also have a Windows 2000 server. Can we install Terminal Server Licensing on the Windows 2000 server to use the Windows 2000 server as a terminal server also or is there a better way to do this ? Can the 10 current licenses be used on the Windows 2000 server when we do this ? Thanks

Enable RDP but only for console connections
by Guest teilo@nospam.nospam- 1 reply

Hi all, Is it possible to have remote desktop enabled on server 2003 but only allow connection to the console (ie "mstsc.exe /console") We have several developers accessing a SUT and occaisionally mstc is launched without the /console and a new session is started on the server - which results in more test applications being started to test the running application (service) which can cause it to fail due to abnormal load. So what I'm looking for is like to XPs remote desktop feature but in Server 2003. Is this possible? I tried setting "restrict each user to one session" but I could still connect to the console and one non-console session.

RDC 6.0 to W2K3 Server Slow (compared to 5.2)
by Guest Greg- 4 replies

I have an application that worked fine in 5.2 RDP sessions but is slow in 6.0(sort of) If I start the application in a RDP session (6.0 client), characters typed are slow to show up on the screen (ie characters show up in groups or 3-5 at a time, not smoothly one at a time as they are typed) However, if I disconnect the RDP session (leaving the app running) and then reconnect to the RDP session, typed characters show up as they are typed (no slowness). If I close the application and restart it, the slow typing response comes back (until I disconnect/reconnect the session) With the 5.2 Client there is no slowness at all. Has anyone seen this type of…

Starting Terminal Services Sessions from the server
by Guest decksta- 8 replies

Is it possible to start terminal services sessions from the local server via startup scripts? I would like to have say 8 users on a server and when that server boots, a script starts a terminal services session for each user. Those user sessions would then have their own set of startup scripts to run applications (in this case for UI testing). Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

Licensing Administration
by Guest Glen- 1 reply

Here is the problem I am facing. Is there an easy fix?... I have a mix of Windows 2003 and 2000 TS's at several different divisions. I have my license server set up as Enterprise license servers so that each site only gets licenses from within their own site. As new computers or terminals are added, I am not always notified that more licenses are needed until it is too late and all licenses are used up. Is there a way to configure some sort of warning that I am approaching my licensing limit? Is there a way for the system to let me know that 75% of licenses are in use? How do I keep track of how many licenses are in use other than manually con…

Understanding VPN, TS or both

We are setting up a remote location that will connect to our main office for the purpose of running our accounting application. At the main office, the application is client-server based, so it is currently installed locally on the (15) XP desktops and they access the Pervasice-SQL database that is located on a shared drive on the Windows 2003 Server that is also the Domain Controller (DC).We will be running (10) XP Pro desktops at the remote location, and there is not a server there. The desktops will print to network-based printers. Both locations have cable-internet with Static IPs with 3Mb download/ 768Kb upload. The remotes will be using the Internet. O…

Printer Issues
by Guest Freaky- 6 replies

Hey there, I've got a weird problem with a customer. This customer always had some printers mapped through terminal services, these always worked fine. A while ago they got a new printer, a HP LaserJet 2840. The strange thing is the old printers are still there (they're still installed on the computer and the terminal server still maps them thus), however on the new printer there is nothing. No log entries, no printer, nothing. The PCL6 driver (same version as client) is installed on the terminal. Normally I would suspect a message that it can not map the printer due to a missing driver, but there is no such message. To troubleshoot I threw away all printe…

Migrating the Terminal Licensing Server in

Guys, I am posted this before. But i have a few more questions. Our Terminal Licensing Server sits in our first domain controller in which I will be replacing. My new domain controller will be the using the same name and IP address. Right now TS Licensing Server installed as Enterprise (we will keep it the same). I don't expect any problems with other terminal servers looking for CALs for renewal? Do I? We have lots of terminal servers. Thanks, Tnt

We've recently set up a terminal server on the SBS domain and all is working fine. However, I've just noticed that the terminal server is not a member of the Security Group called Terminal Server Computers (It is just a member of Domain Computers). Is this correct / wrong ? TIA, JohnK p.s. Terminal Server Licensing is being done by the SBServer - Does this make a difference?

Terminal Server VPN Question
by Guest John W- 0 replies

We have some remote users that are using a remote dekstop connection to access our company network. On the TS there is a VPN connection to an off-site AS400. If you sit at the TS machine you can use the VPN fine but if you remote to the machine the VPN will not connect. Is this something that is not allowed or does anyone have a suggestion how to correct the problem? Thanks!

RDP 6 Client Using Wrong User's Temp Directory
by Guest Will- 1 reply
I'm coming in to a Windows 2000 server as the local administrator from a Windows XP client running RDP 6. Once logged in, I try to start an application in the security context of an ordinary user. This works, but the application is apparently running in a process environment inherited from the local administrator, because for example the TEMP directory it tries to use is the local administrators. Is there any way for me to ensure that the application starts up in a different security context and also uses the correct environment and user registry? -- Will

Problem with Office 2000 producy key, after applying SP1
by Guest Lloyd Wolf- 1 reply

Hello. Looking for a little help... We have a customer with a Terminal Server running Windows Server 2003 in application sharing mode. This weekend, we applied SP1 for Windows Server 2003. The installation of SP1 went fine. But there is now a problem afterwards. The server is also running Microsoft Office 2000 Professional. Since applying SP1, the Welcome to Microsoft Office 20000 customer information window is displayed whenever trying to open any of the Office 2000 apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc). It asks for username, initials, organization, and CD key. This happens for all user profiles. Unfortunately the original Office 2000 CDs and key co…

How do I complete setup?
by Guest John F Kappler- 1 reply

We have a domain controlled by a SBServer 2003. On that domain we have a WServer 2003 for TS. The SBServer has the TS License Manager activated. The current users of the SBServer are 10 local PCs, plus a copule of Laptop users who use ConnectComputer or OWA. Usual sort of thing. At some outlying offices, we have five users who work on local (to them) PCs, either standalone or locally peer-to-peer networked. We do NOT want to make these into regular SBServer Users as their ability to connect would be intermittent. However, when they have access to the Internet, we would like them to be able to access and application which has a client installed on the …
