TS rights issue
by Guest Jon Bakersfield- 0 replies

Dev environment has a win2k3 sp2 server in TS admin mode. Domain\everyone is a member of the server administrators group Domain\everyone is also a member of the Remote Desktop Users group Domain\Everyone is also allow(ed) to log on through TS (as is set by membership above) All users are members of the domain\everyone group. All users except one can access the machine via RDP (using RDC). The failing user simply sees the message "To log on tothis remote computer you must be granted........" Any ideas? It works for everyone else, and by all counts it should be working for this user as well. There is nothing that immediately stands out to me that is diff…

using /span, changing default window position
by Guest DNi- 2 replies

I have a customer using dual-monitors on a single terminal server session (using the 6.0 client and the /span command). All works well. except for the fact that this effectively makes all warning windows (errors, information, questions) show up in the middle of the combined size of both screens (half on the right of the left screen, and half on the left of the right screen). I imagine this is because the terminal server sees the client as using one big monitor, not two monitors. My question is: Is there is a way, either through registry or utilities, to make all windows show up on one screen, but still be draggable to the other screen, as it would normally…

Adding Users to Local Administrators Group
by Guest MSNews- 6 replies

Hi Everyone, I am relatively inexperienced in TS though I have 20 years experience in Network systems for small business. I am implementing ACT by Sage on W2003R2 TS and the complete functionality/integration with Outlook2003 works only if Users/Domain Users are members of the Local Administrators Group (LAG). I have been using Process Monitor but cannot locate any Access Denied messages when Users are not members of the the LAG. Anyone have ideas on how to identify the 'offending' rights so that I can implement this application without completely eroding security on the TS Regards Piloo

Update

I have installed the 2GB of RAM, which takes us up to 4GB total. Task Manager shows right around 2GB used. I checked the UPHClean logs, and found several per day for the Symantec Anti-Virus as not being able to close the process. I have installed version 10.1.6.6000 of Symantec, which was recommended. The UPHClean log entries stopped. The server ran through the weekend without any issues with Symantec updates and backups. On Monday, I had a user that tried to login, but couldn't. It gave her an error "Cannot load profile..." and "Insufficient system resources...". She clicks OK, and is logged off. I login, and get the same errors, but it gives m…

Hello, it seems like a simple question but we have major problems identifying, if our application runs in the console session or in a "normal" terminal services session. Using GetSystemMetrics with SM_REMOTESESSION fails, as it will give us always 1 if we connect to Server 2003 via mstsc. This is in clear contradiction to the documentation: -- SM_REMOTESESSION This system metric is used in a Terminal Services environment. If the calling process is associated with a Terminal Services client session, the return value is nonzero. If the calling process is associated with the Terminal Server console session, the return value is 0. The console sess…

IE 7 and Windows Desktop Search
by Guest cendrars- 0 replies

Hello, I have a customer desiring the installation of IE 7 and Windows Desktop Search to his 2003 terminal servers. The customer profile environment is creative in that he has ntuser.man files retained within roaming profiles. The AD environment is 2003. We have IE 7 installed, but on the initial launch by the user the home paged defined within the GPO (IE 7 inetres.adm applied) does not appear. Instead the marketing page for Windows IE appears. How might we circumvent the IE 7 marketing page, and receive the home page as defined by the IE 7 GPO applied to the container? Windows Desktop Search presents a configuration window for each test sessio…

Using Load Balancing Hardware: Cisco
by Guest lozza- 0 replies

Guys, Am having difficulty understanding a few things with regard to Load Balancing WTS . Environment will be 3 TS servers sitting behind a Cisco Load Balancer… My questions are: 1) If i;m using session directory, does it matter what balancing algorithm I am using? The reason I ask this is because doesn't the session directory determine whether you already have a disconnected session and then somehow reconnect you back that server (so effectively the Session Directory keeps you Sticky to the TS server). So for example if I hit my Virtual IP on the Load Balancer and it takes me to Server1, I then disconnect and come back half hour later. When I hit …

TS Session Directory and NLB
by Guest Shane Franchina- 0 replies
Hi, I have 5 terminal servers running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 SP2. They are running NLB and together form a NLB cluster. We also have a terminal services session directory running on another server in the organisation and all servers are a member of this session directory. Each terminal server has 2 network interfaces, one for the clients to connect to (and the one that NLB is enabled on), and the other one is a management interface. The issue that we are having is with the configuration of one particular terminal server. In it's session directory configuration screen, there is no option to select the correct interface for redire…

Urgent: RDP Bandwidth Requirements and Usage Scenarios
by Guest benxxv via WinServerKB.com- 2 replies

Hi !! Sorry for reposting the same question. what is the maximum bandwidth used by an RDP Session ? What are all factors play in that ? How do I measure exactly how much bandwidth is used per rdp session ? Any tools for measuring the bandwidth used by an RDP session ? Does the bandwidth usage varies during a session ? I know printing etc. does use more bandwidth, but, say we run few ERP reports on the server and during the display of that report at the client end does the RDP session bandwidth usage goes up ? Restrict Server to Console Mode ONLY
by Guest CyberQuad- 5 replies
Can a single Windows Server 2003 server (Computer A) be configured to allow ONLY the /console type of connection from a workstation (Computer B)? We have a requirement so that only a single connection can connect at a time (which we can control), but it MUST be a "Console" mode connection (session 0) and we do not want to have to change anything on the client workstations. We have many admins that connect to many servers and want to ensure that if any connect to Computer A they will always be forced into a "Console" mode connection (session 0), rather than a normal RDP session (session 1 or higher). Can this be accomplished and what do I need to chang…

printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003
by Guest Vish- 7 replies
Hi, I am getting a problem when users try to print webpages from our 64 bit windows servers while they are TS'ing or citrixing in. When they print the page comes out blank.Even print preview is blank. When I get onto the server, I am seeing "thunking errors". The print server is a 2003 32bit box. I have installed the 32bit drivers but then added x64 2003 as an additional print device on the print server and loaded 64 bit drivers for the printers. All the printers are doing this. However, if we get the same users using the same printers on a 32 bit 2003 machine, everything works fine. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi, we tried to redirect the startmenu via a group policy. It works fine with one menu. But now we will use cumulative menus. We have one standard menu with Office and want to have some additional menus for special programs. What is working is: one menu with office one menu with office and special program1 one menu with office and special program2 one menu with office and special program1 and program2 But is it possible to have: one menu with office one menu with special program1 one menu with special program2 and set this cumulative for security groups? I have not found a solution for that. If I try to use the setting -extended- under -user config -…

Hi, I have a couple of problems that have been bugging me now for most of today (current time 8:53pm!!) Our set up is two offices - main office houses SBS2003 Premium (as DC), and Server 2003 set up as TS - 5 ts licences. We have three users who access the TS from remote office, via RWW on DC. Two users have full functionality of email and internet ... the newest one does not. The problems Firstly - when logged on through RWW to TS new user can not access internet on TS. Gets redirected to Companyweb. Secondly - when sending email (either logged on through RWW to TS using Outlook .. OR ... using OWA in RWW) all outgoing going mail gets trapped in …

Missing files/folders
by Guest Grainne- 6 replies

We have a customer that uses terminal services with small business server 2003. Frequently they come to us with a recurring issue wherebey folders/files have disappeared, when they search for them, they are found in a different location. They have asked there users and no-one is admitting to moving them manually. However, one user said when he was working remotely his screen flickered and the folder/files he was looking at had disappeared, we found them the next day in a different location. Normally, we would put this down to user error, however today we logged onto their server remotely to move some folder/files for them that had been moved to a diffe…

Printing at remote office

Hello and good morning. We have a remote office that are connecting to the HQ office via terminal services (Windows 2003 SP2). One workstation at the remote office has Windows XP and a HP printer attached locally via a USB connection. The other workstations are thin-clients. I need the thin-clients to be able to print to the locally attached printer on the XP workstation. The XP system is not a domain member. The printer is shared when someone has logged on to TS on the XP workstation. However, how can I set up the printer to allow printing to it even if no one has established a TS session from the workstation on which it is connected? I don't ha…

What's the difference between setting home directory via the profile tab or Terminal Services tab?

What's the difference between setting home directory via the profile tab or Terminal Services tab? Gurus, In Active Directory, you can set the user's home directory via the Profile tab. I also noticed you can set it via the "Terminal Services Profile" tab as well. In a terminal services environment, since both map the home directory equally as well, basically what's the advantage or disadvantage of either? -- Spin

One user - printing problem

Folks, I have one user who is suddenly having trouble printing via TS. It had been working fine until last week. I can't find anything in the logs indicating a problem, but here's what I have found so far. When I connnect to our TS via RDP, and I look at my printers and faxes group, I see my desktop printer show up as "Dell Laser Printer 1720dn (on computername in session x). My user who is having trouble printing is not seeing the "on computername in session x). When I look at the print queue from the server to the laser printer, it shows a document error and the port is LPT1. I think that's OK on the server, but when I called her, it was point…
