Fax software in Terminal Services
by Guest synapse data and telecom- 1 reply

Hi all, we have a TS2003 SP1 server (we haven't updated because of the fax software and EMR software on the server - this will happen soon). We have a fax client which hooks into server software running on a different 2003 Server on the network. The fax client software links into the installed printer driver on the server, and the client interface comes up when someone prints to the fax printer. The fax software worked up until a little while ago, and none of the settings have changed. The client software is no longer working as it did before. Instead of opening one instance of the software and populating it with the fax image, the software now op…

can't get trusted sites to work properly!
by Guest lee.james@spartan.ab.ca- 1 reply

We have added a list of trusted sites in Group Policy set at the domain level. This works fine for users logging into their computer. However when they connect to our Citrix server (Metaframe XP) they don't get the trusted sites (published app is IE based) being applied. I tried adding the same list of trusted sites in the Citrix server's local policy but that didn't work either. A few posts have mentioned having to enable loopback processing - but I don't care, all users are going to get the same trusted sites anyways - because they're already specified at the domain level! Also, the citrix servers are in their own OU, don't have any Group Polici…

File associations lost
by Guest Al Williams- 5 replies
Office 2003 SP3 apparently removed all associations for .TIF files when I installed it on my 2003 terminal server. Unfortunately, this breaks FAX viewing and previewing (which MS had to know it would). I found KB 938813 which indicates the users need to add the associations back manually. When I try this on a TS session it can't be done as users are read-only in the Folder Options->File Types tab. How do I fix this on terminal server? Preferably at the server without having to update or visit each user. Thanks. -- Allan Williams

New Terminal Server best practices
by Guest Marshall Varner- 1 reply

I have just installed a new terminal server at my main office. We have a satellite office about 25 miles away. I wanted to provide access to resources at our main office to our satellite. We have Windows 2003 Adtive directory domains at each location and trust have been setup. We are connected via a point to point T1 Line. The server is working properly as far as I can tell. The only application I have installed is Office 2003 and it seems to work fine. I now need to start creating user accounts and installing other apps but before I do I wanted to make sure I don't screw anything up. I am looking for some good documentation on best practices a…

RDC Printing question
by Guest MiamiDOM- 1 reply
In a remote office, we are going to have a switch off the router, which will have a DHCP networked multi-function device. I am also thinking of installing another printer, laser, off the switch (DHCP print server, or internal card). If I install this second printer, will RDC clients in that office be able to use it while in an RDC connected state? We will have Terminal Server installed in Miami office for their connection, with the apps installed here. Thanks, John

Users can only login to one TS server
by Guest Jared- 11 replies

Hi, We have 3 terminal servers running windows 2003 SP2 R2. One is working correctly. When the same user tries to access another server they get this error: "you must be granted the Allow logon through terminal services right. Members of the remote desktop users have this right." I don't know if it makes a difference but the one working server ix x64 and the other 2 aren't. I tried changing the group policy to allow logon through terminal services but this didn't help. Any other suggestions? Thanks

More than 2 simultaneous access for Admin
by Guest seb- 2 replies

HI , we have an application server where developpers need to access in Rdp. They are local admin , but there are three users and it could be simultaneously. I think the rdp access for admin is limited to two users at the same time. Should I turn it in application mode to authorize these accesses ? (we have terminal licenses and licenses in the domain) is it dangerous to turn in application mode a server where the software is already installed and that was not a server dedicated to do that works ... in fact no simple users will need to reach that application by Rdp ....that aplication is link to a database and an IIs server .. hope I was clear …

I have a Win2k3 64-bit server that I've just installed. And I can't seem to log into it via Terminal Services or Remote Desktop. I installed terminal service through add/remove windows components and selected Application Server. Am I doing anything wrong? All my other Win2k3 32-bit servers are fine. Per-User-CAL
by Guest Ole Weigelt- 3 replies

Hi Everybody, what exactly is a Per-User-CAL bound to? Is ist the login-name, the Username in the Profile or something like an ID invisible to the user? What if an employee leaves the company? Is this type of CAL released after a certain period of time just as the Per-Device-CALs? What if a Profile gets corrupt (which happens from time to time in our environments, maybe the application is to blame...)? Thank you fo your time. Ole

Remote Printer not appearing
by Guest Mick Foreman- 1 reply

HI, I don't seem to be able to printer remotely to a network printer in my site office. The driver is loaded onto my laptop and into the TS at head office using Server Properties -> drivers. When I'm in the site office I can print directly from my laptop to the network printer. However when I connect to the TS I don't see the redirected printer. I have no errors in the log and it doesn't work when I log onto the TS as administrator. Have checked the options in the Remote Destop Connector and it definately has local printers ticked. I loaded the same driver at both pla ces and used all the default settings so it should all be the same. Laptop …

Hope someone can help further. I read a previous post on this group that was being replied to by Vera Noest and it did help alot of my questions. However, I'm still having problems. I created a .vbs batch file to execute my application so that when the terminal server users closes the application that it disconnects them. Scenario My session doesn't logoff when I quit my starting or published application on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server running Citrix Presenation Server 4.5 The workaround was to created a batch file like this one use the following vb script to launch your application, and define the vb script as the starting application. We currently have the following setup: -Windows 2003 Server Std Edition as a DC - (15) XP Clients on the Domain We are opening another location that will have just XP Clients, and we are adding this to the domain above: - Windows 2003 Server Std Edition as a Application Server running Terminal Services and acting as the Licensing Server - Adding (10) XP Clients with multiple users at the remote location that will be members of & login to the DC. They will also log into the TS for the purpose of running our accounting application. Questions: We know we need to purchase (10) TS CALs-PER DEVICE for these remotes. However, we are confused on what add…

RDC or Better way?
by Guest MiamiDOM- 3 replies

We are opening an office in another city, where one of our managers and staff will work. They will also work from home on occasion or from a motel room. They are planning on connecting to get email and files via Terminal Server. The real issue is that we do not want to have a separate printer, (especially legacy, as most computers don't have LPT ports any longer). New printers are mostly USB, which RDC does not support w/o redirection. And, we need a multifunction device on one or two of the units, which would be shared. I am wondering if there is a better way to allow these remote users to work, have access etc, yet have a way to connect them to the offic…
